- Wynton on trumpet. Branford on sax. Delfeayo on trombone. With her famous sons leading the way, Dolores Ferdinand Marsalis, matriarch of one of New Orleans' most influential musical families, was laid to rest Tuesday (Aug. 1) in New Orleans. A jazz procession followed the service. Marsalis died July 18 of pancreatic cancer at 80. (Video by Brett Duke, Nola.com | The Times-Picayune)

Man, if that kid doesn't embody the spirit of New Orleans...
She is IT
that kid deserves to become a meme!
I wish there was a longer video or another video of her dancing

I had no idea that Delfeayo played the trombone, I always knew him to be engaged in a dilemma.

@@benbusch3371 you must be from my home town!!! Thanks Ben
I know this is a cultural ritual but why do they play such cheerful music at funerals? What is the origin of this practice?
The music more up tempo music is to celebrate the life of the loved one as well to celebrate that they have now gone on to a better life. Their burdens are over.
@@andrewt6280 perfectly and succinctly said. Our funeral marches (second line funeral) consist of funeral dirges played/sang at the outset en route to the internment. Once the body is interred, the whole procession parades down the street away from the burial site to the beat and melodies of the band in high reverie and jubilant music celebrating the beloved deceased saint going marching in!!! If you ever attend a jazz funeral you'll never forget the feeling.
