There is no need to take the phasers off to replace the timing chain all you have to do is pull the intake phaser solenoids and the chain comes right off... I just finished mine up the other day and more importantly new bolts must be used when the phasers are removed it appears you reused the old bolts... Of course I changed the phasers while I was in there but I didn't pull them off until after the chain was off
I’ve done this four or five times this job can seem overwhelming, but it’s not once you get into it. It’s good use cardboard to put all your bolts in the cardboard. You can draw a map and place all your bolts on your map made my life easy the newer clips come off easy. Did anybody notice that?
I thought I could get mine done in a weekend after doing 2 different water pumps on nearly identical 3.5L explorer and Taurus’ - of course nothing went right, couple trips to town and here I am about to work on it again the next weekend 😂
Why does it take about 8 hours to pull everything out and another 20 hours to install everything correctly; sounds about right! Will it Run just as good as a New Vehicle? So many components to be reinstalled and hopefully nothing leaks after the RTV is applied! You would think Ford would re-engineer a more easier engine than the present one! After everything is done a Road Test is Required that all the systems are operating correctly! Way to go FORD!
I have a '18 ecoboost and the phasers are going and it makes a horrible rattle noise when you start it up. Just got it from the dealer a month ago and they wont fix it (taking them to court now) so im trying to see how bad of a job it is, after wztching this... helllllllll no 😅
We were mainly addressing the chain noise issue. The phasers weren't messing up at the time, but the exhaust cam phasers ended up getting changed down the road.
Hey everyone. I have a 2014 Taurus SHO 3.5 TT with 92k on it.. I have the spark plugs(Bosch 9697 iridium) and I’m pretty sure they are to originals. Other than the plugs, what else do I need to get to do the job? Do I simply pull the plugs and put new ones in? Or is there more to it than that? And is the side closest to the windshield tough to do? Thanks
This video helped and this truck is like mine at the moment it’s in the shop for the same issues water pump and radiator noise and leaking gaskets are what’s being fixed all in all good truck when it’s working good
Is the process the same for a 5.0? And do you have to remove the motor to replace the oil pump? I'm having a shop replace cam.phasets and timing chain for my 2014, ty
What necessitated the replacement of the timing chain? Was it getting stretched? We’re there lots of codes? What were the symptoms? I feel like this is common on eco boost. Please correct me if I’m wrong
Hey man great video. I have 2013 f150 3.5 eb. Gonna do this same job. should I change the vvt's while im in there. I know there was a second tsb that was put out stating that the vvt's should be changed as well. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Sir I don't have the special locking tools for my 2013 ford explorer 3.5 engine and am trying to replace my water pump. But I noticed something that made me stop to seek help before I continue. Immediately I took my timing chain off the left side phaser I saw the phaser turning, why is that. Have i damaged my engine? Need your help please.
@@baako2002 It shouldn't be moving if the battery is disconnected why was it turning? If you turned it back on and there isn't a noise then you are probably fine. As long as you put it back together the same.

That timeframe is about right. Yes. It will run like new
And even after all that the check engine still won’t tell you when the oil pressure drops
Literally a law of the universe that when you fix something, something else will break. Replace the timing chain and now the water pump goes out.
Same here

Could we get a list of the tools you needed to complete this? (specifically any special tools)
Matco FCHT371a for the cam hold down tools from the Matco Truck, and Performance Tools W89712 Damper puller from summit

3.5 v6 is the engine tha same ?? As on this video..
Yes it is
Actually theres one difference..only 2 phasers on the 3.5 eco explorer
