How to LIGHTEN DARK STAINS on furniture

- I love using oxalic acid (wood bleach) to lighten dark water stains and damage that sanding alone doesn't remove. This vintage solid wood table was in desperate need of attention, and I painted the base and revived the top.
Every few months I do a furniture flip for 10,000 Carrots Rabbit Rescue, a rescue near and dear to my heart.
This is the 8th one I've done, and now that I'm on youtube, I can share these with you all as well! Once the piece is completed, I then sell tickets on it with all proceeds to the rescue!
Tickets are only available to those local to us (as I can't ship the furniture), but if you'd like to learn more about the rescue, or even make a donation, you can find them on FB under 10,000 Carrots Rabbit Rescue, or
www.10000carrots.com !

I love the way you keep the integrity of this lovely old table. Love the bunnies 🐰 What a great way to help the charity ❤️
You called it a "refresh", I'm gonna call it a "renew" cause it sure looked new to me. I still think you have a magic wand that you keep out of view, what you do to these pieces is nothing less than magic. I'm gonna keep saying it "any piece that passes thru your hands is blessed"!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
I am thoroughly enjoying your vids. LOVE your bunny heart!! 💚💚 You are so sweet. Sat on my back porch crocheting as I watched your video. And what did I see, but a bunny.
I wanna say that I only found your channel a couple days ago, but I've been watching it multiple times a day since I found it. I love your creativity and the beauty of the work you are doing. I work full time in a cabinet shop and do some woodworking on the side. And, I appreciate the love and care you give these beautiful pieces. I also love the info I get about restoring old pieces. I'm so use to working with newly built pieces, but I've been wanting to work on restoring some older pieces as well. You do amazing work and I love your channel. Keep up the amazing work.
Wow 🤩 6k girl you are on fire 🔥
I love the way you repair and restore. I would like to learn more about the treatments you use like the oils and waxes. Maybe you could make a video!
I'm a huge animal lover and my dream to start a rescue group that takes in the rejected so I think it's awesome that you are doing this for the bunnies. I know there are not very many rescues for bunnies. Great job!!!!
Do you have a pet rabbit? Fortunately, our county shelter here in VA does take bunnies. (Posted at start of video)
I was given a well used dining table just before Christmas. I am going to find that oxalic acid, do your stem trick and I am sure I can get it looking pretty again. I won't be to your standard but I am going to try my best!!
As Andie mentions be sure to wear rubber gloves. I'll also add wear protective glasses or goggles and make sure your in a well ventilated work space. Long sleeve clothing and pants can't hurt either. Remember you are using an acid. I've refinished furniture for years...just sharing some safety tips. Read the warning labels on what ever product you try.
I’m a huge advocate for animal rescues and have definitely done a few myself...
I’m so glad CZcams put u in my recommendation feed today! Definitely subscribed!! Ty for all u do!
Hi Angie & everyone from this lovely community. I recently renovated an old Peugeot coffee grinder from the 30s or so (French). Made the mistake of using white vinegar with fine steel wool and it tainted it greyish! Of course I only discovered ebonising wood with a vinegar+steel wool solution AFTER doing that😅. So I know that you use oxalic acid to remove stains. I re-sanded that darkened part and OA restored my wood to it's original colour. So thank you because I learned that from you😊❤
Oh no! I'm so glad I could help you fix it though!
Wow, wish I had seen this years ago when I was gifted a table in such condition just out of college. I would have kept it. Alas, CZcams is a gift for the future. Yet another awesome video. Thanks for tackling this project and sharing the steps. This table is beautifully rendered under your skilled hand. Another great success. Thanks for sharing. (But...please do wear gloves, no matter how skilled you are....we care).
I am so amazed. Life is full of coincidences. First, I had 3 rescue rabbits. Love bunnies 💖. I have been a member of the House Rabbit Society for years. And secondly, I just bought a table to refinish with the same look and issues. Your video is very helpful. I'm a big fan of your CZcams channel. Looking forward to seeing more videos. Good luck with the fundraiser.🐇
Love the way that you’re giving back through your beautiful talent! The table, like the rest of your work, turned out wonderfully, and of course, Millie is adorable. 🐰💕
Awesome love bunnies 💕🤗. It turned out gorgeous and you are a good teacher 👍🏻
I wanted to tell you, after a bout of covid and a hurricane I was able to work on that table top again and the oxalic acid worked!! There is a slight indented spot where the stain was and I tried the wet rag iron trick but it just worked a little bit. It’s okay, that’s part of this tables history. 😉 I so appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge and experience with us. Thank you! This table has now become a family heirloom. ❤️
That’s great! Oxalic for the win!
Very informative. I went to your bunny site. I never knew all those things about bunnies.
I love this table - shows what you can do. I've been binge watching your videos, I didn't realise with the first couple that you were "new to youtube" - you do amazing work and your videos are fantastic. I love the detail you put in and your sense of humour. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing your beautiful craft!
What a lovely table. It just glows. There will be many happy memories made around this resurrected beauty. What a kind and open heart you have using your awesome talent to raise bunny money. Respect.
What a great cause Angie, talented and generous. The table transformed ….beautiful 👏👏👏
Sweet table, cute bunny and great tips! I love that you featured this rescue organization on your channel!
I do a lot of fundraising for them! We have four rescues from them and are fostering one as well. Love the buns!
Really like the aesthetic. Love that way to fund raise ...great idea!
That table came out beautiful. Such a beautiful rabbit as well.
She’s super sweet 🐰❤️
I love that combination... I’m so tired of all white, cream, beige or grey. The wood and black is perfect 🤩
Another awesome technique for the newbies 💖
I will be checking out your Facebook page soon
the table is beautiful! and Millie is adorable!! fantastic job, Angie sweetie!
Thank you so much Dottie! ❤️
Your work never disappoints. Quality finishes always! And may I say, your voiceovers are very informative. I'm a big fan. Great job.
Table turned out beautiful!
Unbelievable transformation! I didn't expect the end result! Love, love it!
I know that this vid is from a while ago, but I felt that I had to comment. I just watched a video of a refinish of an old piece, on another channel. The refinisher just sanded, and did nothing else to remove the black stains on the top of her piece. When it was complete, those stains were still there, just under a layer of urethane. I am so impressed with the success of using oxalic acid on this table. The worst of the stains are gone, and the final finish is gorgeous. Every time I watch one of these videos, I learn something new! Thank you so much for what you do!
You are most welcome! I'm so glad you enjoy my content. Thank you so much for watching!
I love how this table turned out!!! ❤
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
What a gorgeous piece, now that you’ve worked your magic!! Gorgeous!
Thanks so much!
I just love how meticulous you are. I wish I had that much patience 🤣. I've done some refinishing and have been very happy with the results but I like seeing the products you use and it's inspired me to finally finish my own dining table and a couple chairs. Thanks you!
Good job, very nice, more carrots for the bunnies.
Beautiful! Thank you for explain how the hot pressing iron, and wet towel is used to raise a dent/scratch in wood. Learned that from a furniture dealer 35 years ago, and paid much less for an item I would not have been able to purchase at the regular price. Love this.
Learning we are kindred is the BEST THING EVER. The B in my screen name is for Bunnie. Rescued two orphaned cotton tails and got the bunny bug. Thank you for your bunny money mission time effort and commitment. It has been said it takes a village to raise a child...but with a rabbit/the prolific birth rates/it takes a REALLY BIG Village, and a wonderful generous woman and her magical wood work to make a difference. WELL DONE YOU! 🐰💕
Thanks for sharing!! I love to help the bunnies whenever I can!
I am SO GLAD I watched this video, otherwise I never would’ve known about using oxalic acid to lift water stains from untreated wood. I’m going to try this! I have a bay window with a badly water stained “seat” area from when my mom decided to place plants there and water them before the area was properly stained and sealed, so it’s pretty much sat in this terrible condition for several years. I really didn’t want to paint it just to cover it up, so I’ll give this a go before trying other solutions. Thanks for your videos! They’re all so inspirational, and I love that you support the bunny rescue! 🐰
Love the authentic finish on that table! Great job!
Once again a stunning piece.
Love your channel! So glad you did this one. I just aquired a table that is very similar I wasn't sure how to finish it. Thank you so much for the inspiration, and direction. You're my new favorite!!
Love your videos! These bunnies are very lucky to have you on their team ❤
Love this restoration, love the cause and a great video to show how to restore a piece of history! 👍🏻
I love you even more knowing you have rescue rabbits and you raise money for the organization. I am starting a cat non-profit for low cost spay/neuter and shots - in my home town in Missouri, USA and I flip furniture to help pay vet bills since I'm not a non-profit quite yet - it is amazing how much money I can earn flipping furniture - it definitely helps!! I have the exact table but painted black and chipped up - now I know what direction to go with it! Thanks and Bless you.
That’s amazing! Yes, animals and helping where I can is a passion of mine. Bunnies are very misunderstood little creatures and because they are a good source for many (😭), it makes the plight of the domestic rabbit worse. But I help where I can- they have such funny and quirky personalities. ❤️❤️
I have a table similar to this that came across the US in a wagon. It's very loved and I've been wondering how to restore it. You've given me some beautiful ideas! Thank you! And lots of love to the bunnies!
You are an amazing wealth of knowledge.
I love this makeover. I learned a lot, thank you for giving back !
Absolutely beautiful! I’m so happy to see a beautiful restoration and thank goodness u didn’t slap chalk paint all over and cover up its beauty!!!
On previous video I saw where u like mixing colors, idk u may already know abt, Amy Howard just released quite a few new powder mix paint colors on her channel and they are really uniquely beautiful!
Once again, you did a fantastic job and for a good cause. Your videos are inspiring and informative. Keep up the great work.
Stunning transformation !! omg !! ................... and those buns ! So SO cute ! I hope by now they are all finding happy loving homes ...
What a stunning transformation, i thoroughly enjoy watching ur videos x
Love it! Love the black base
What a beautiful rescue ! ❤ Bravo
Very pretty color combo! Sweet bunny!
That really turned out beautiful and I will definitely strip that table top and try the oxalic acid to take out the stain! Thank you so much!!
I love your fundraiser idea! That’s fantastic!
You put in hard work and your big efforts shows! Congrats ! It’s perfected quality.
Awesome as always and the bunnies are so adorable
Great cause! Thank you for taking us along ☺️
Sanding it makes a huge difference.
Beautiful ❤️ What a wonderful organization for the Bunny's🐰!!
I find it odd when refinishing, most want to sand out all the "caricature" from normal wear ....and when working on "new"
they try to mimic it ! 🤷
What a great piece for a great cause 😍
Great tips on how to use the acid, oil and even the filler...Thanks! I'm usually not fond of anything gray but this table turned out Gorgeous!!! Really like you kept the authenticity yet buffed out the water/heat staining, it gave it a genuine new life : )
This is a great fundraiser. Table is beautiful. 👏👏👏
Beautiful cause, beautiful soul, beautiful piece.
You are so kind! Thank you so much for watching!
Bonsoir Angie, beautiful work! TFS. Christine
Omg thank you! I have a desk with this issue. I’m loving your channel.

You are extremely talented!!!
What a great way to support the bunnies! You're awesome, Angie!
Thank you so much! 😀 You're watching early this morning! 🙂
@TranscendFurnitureGallery trying o catch up! Lol, I start work at 7:30 am, so I get up at 5 am!
Sooo pretty. Love it. Adorable fur baby.
Angie, well done & what a fantastic cause. So glad I came across your Channel. Very enjoyable content. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
You are a total inspiration! Love your stuff. We used Oxalic acid on our Furniture Restoration course at college. We used it on a spot - need to make a paste and only use it on the spot and literally watch it change colour then quickly wipe it off.
I'm new to your channel and bin watched all of them so I will be caught up. I really enjoy your work. I love the mix of wood and paint and helping bunnies!! ❤️ Keep up the great work!😊
Beatiful job!
Really beautiful!!! ♥️♥️♥️
What a great table......well done!
I love your work. The table is beautiful
Love your work.
Very pretty !!!
I can’t believe how that tabletop came out. Beautiful. Before this video I would have given that damage a pass.
*Bravo pour la restauration👍*
I am so impressed with your work and your vision. Your amazing!!!
Thank you very much!
Wow, nice job!!! Glad I found your channel. I've wanted more instruction on using oxalic acid so I will re watch this video. Thank you!

Table's looking good! Bonus points for the Pink Floyd t-shirt 😁
Only the best ;-)
Great table for a good cause.

I always learn something new when I watch your videos - thank you!
You're very welcome!
Wonderful job for a great cause!
Perfect! I love it.
Gorgeous table! It’s almost as pretty as Millie! 😉
I just gave away a little table like that only square. I have a new project in the future. This looks like a fun finishing. Great job!
Looks beautiful
Beautiful
Wow- awesome opening and rescue cause- I knew I liked you! Great videos . New subscriber
Nice work for a great charity. Loved the bunny modeling your table, which turned out worthy of a whole truckload of carrots in my opinion. Thanks also for the tips. I've no experience with oxalic acid and never used an iron to level furniture gouges. Look forward to testing out the new techniques when I find the right piece that will benefit.
Tks for the bunny funds!
So nice and i loved
