I have one of those engines 172 d out of a Sulair air compressor installed in a Michigan 55a rear steer it sips fuel and always starts. Just pulled it out to fix the rear main seal your videos are a help
You did a really nice job on this I have a row crop just like this one It runs pretty good but I could probably do like what you're doing to yours You know given it a make over😎
Cost wouldn't be an issue but hours spent, who knows. Sometimes I spend all day working on stuff and other times I can't do stuff for weeks. Had to wait 3 weeks to sandblast the power steering pump and lift arms due to rain here lately.
@@chickenhousemechanic Squatch253 rebuilt a Farmall Super M and could only estimate that they spent 1000 hours of labor on it. Like you he knew pretty well to the dollar how much money was spent. Over $8,000.
@MrJackinthebox46 should have a solid stream maybe 3 inches long. Not sure of actual volume of fluid. Timing off could also cause it to not stay running since it runs off starter fluid.
My fuel filter "housing" i guess you would call it is leaking literally everywhere from places on the bottom and the little brass nut on top. Any idea where i could pick up a new one or is there some seals in mine i could fix?
There are some seals on the brass fittings from what I can remember. Probably just some o-rings. The main seals are on the filter. As for the housing I don't know of any new ones so you'd have to locate a good used one.
Appreciate you posting. I have 172 engine in my 861 diesel. It runs very good. A little blue smoke out the tailpipe, which makes me wonder if my calves need adjusting. I set them at about 0.016” cold. Any advice? Thx. 😊
Blue smoke is oil burning. A tiny bit is normal. Excessive smoke can be rings/piston bore or injector seals. Valve seals dont really do much on these engines which is where the small amount of blue can come from. Usually get some gray smoke when revving. If you set the valves cold I'd go closer to 0.014" since everything expands with heat.
Working on sheet metal right now. Have one hood side ready for paint and other is blasted and in epoxy primer. With growing season here it really slows my progress. Same reason videos are slow coming out right now.
You look to me a Ford expert? I have a industrial engine on a generator and I can't find any information what kind of een engine it is. I think it's maybe a Ford? Can I send you a picture of the engine?
Worked on what i think is a ford 801 with a 172D engine that i bought as a project. Hopefully i can start it tomorrow. First tractor i buy and work on. Paid $500 for it. Whats a good source for parts?
I get parts from all over the place. Just8ns, yesterdays tractors, steiner tractor, and ebay to name a few. Love the 801 series diesels. Have an 861-D that I redid 10 years ago. Runs like a champ.
@@MarcoRodriguez-lr2xt they seem to be pretty decent with fuel. Never really measured it to see. According to Ford they were better on fuel than the gas models were.
@@chickenhousemechanic I suppose but it took away from the video. were all backyard mechanics who watch these kind of videos. Beautiful Tractor by the way. do you know where to get replacement parts for the fuel line system that goes inside the valve cover assembly? mine is leaking in that area. I have a 1961 Ford 641 D I think it is the 144 engine. Thanks,
@@stevenreeves4766 not really sure how wanting people to be safe detracts from a video. As for your line it's not available new and will have to be repaired or replaced with good used.

Thank you.
Great job. I was hoping when you finish this project you could post a video of cost and hours spent.

So much time on it you can’t really keep count I’m guessing
How much fuel should shoot out??? Mine will start with a shot of starting fluid but won't stay running???

Great video, just curious, where did you get the exhaust elbow with bracket? I’m trying to put a 4000 row crop together and need one.
New Holland dealer. 86534432 is the part number.
