- We need to get a proper supply of redstone! For that we need to build a witch farm but with this one we'll kill the witches ourselves with our looting sword to maximise the drops. It's time to turn the tables and use magic against the witches!

A few years ago Xisuma said in a Q&A video that instead of people wanting to join Hermitcraft, they should work on making their own "Hermitcraft" and not to be limited by what they are doing. He couldn't have been more correct, and Legacy SMP is just that. You guys worked hard to build yourselves up and then made your own server and I'm super happy for you since I've been watching you for a few years now. I've often found another gold block under the lava blocks at the ruined portals. But doubt gold supply is an issue for you.
I remember on one of Hypnotized video's he mentioned that if a mob takes damage they wont despawn for some amount of time. Havent fact checked, but if its true you could put magmablocks in the waterstream under the drop. Keep up the good work :)

@@maxcoisman321 but that's not afk and you'd need another farm to get the emeralds to trade. Also that wouldn't make gunpowder sugar glowstone or sticks.
Zezulin Wrathbottled First off you can get over 12000 redstone per hour just by trading rotten flesh into red stone clerics ,and second off clerics also trade for glowstone.
It always astounds me how easy witch farms can be to build. Maybe it was just because I watched Mumbo Jumbo's massive witch farm build on Hermitcraft Season 6 as my introduction to witch farms that I thought they were huge, elaborate projects. Nope, maybe an afternoon for one that provides a single player all the drops they need. Why build a creeper farm, mine for redstone, try to find potions of health in the Outer End, make a massive sugar cane farm, mine for glowstone in the Nether, or trade with piglins for potions of fire resistance when this provides all of the above? My single player base is right next to a couple of swamps, guess it's time to find the witch huts and build one of these for myself. Thanks for the inspiration, Logic! Even though this wasn't meant necessarily as a tutorial, I think it works. I'll be rewatching the vid to build this type of farm up in my world!
As a preemptive sidenote, mentioning the massive sugarcane farm was a joke. I always start a world with some form of sugarcane farm because they are so useful. Consistent paper for rockets, trading, and making books are always things I tend to need throughout my time in the world. It's just my playstyle I guess.

Love your content, Logic! I’ve only been subscribed for a few months, but I enjoy your Legacy content a lot and your new series Simply Minecraft even more. There are a lot of amazing technical channels that show off maximum efficiency, highly technical farms (ilmango and methodz come to mind), but designing and giving tutorials for bare-bone farms that are both simple and practically efficient in terms of good drop rates is something I haven’t seen done well very often and I’ve been playing and watching MC content since 2011. Your designs are elegantly simple and very useful for people like myself who play single player or on small SMP servers.
You mentioned the possibility of making building tutorials in a previous video. While I think you should make whatever content seems fun and exciting to you, I will say that there are a plethora of building YT channels, but the niche you’ve found in designing elegantly simple farms and contraptions is not commonly seen. You have real skill for this kind of thing! On the otherhand, I know that you have made a starship fleet on your single player world. If you do decide to do building tutorials, something like different sci-fi starships would be really cool and different from the endless house, industry, and fantasy/medieval tutorials out there.
Again, I love your content. I’m excited to continue watching no matter what you decide to do in the future!

I tend to avoid using flying machines for the reason you explained at the end. I prefer the top-slab method. Since mobs prefer to stand on full, opaque blocks, I build the spawning platform out of top-slabs, then put a row of proper blocks that they think they can get to, but they instead drop through some open trapdoors. It doesn't usually take them long to walk right off the platform. Of course, you'll need to spawn-proof the strip of blocks, which can be easily done with some light set at just the right distance for the strip to be at light level 8, so that the rest of the farm will be at low or 0 levels. I'm not sure if spawn-proofing with buttons will cause the witches to not care so much about that block anymore or not. Some testing might be necessary.
As usual, my methods don't really yield as much product as yours, but it's easier to do and works well enough for smaller servers or single-player. Even still, I'm sure you'll make an "Easy Witch Farm" tutorial soon, and I'll learn some stuff from that.
If you want an easier desin you can check a CZcamsr called "Shulkercraft" he just made a witch farm tutorial with tripwires and water to move them from the spawning platform
@@AkshayKumar-qc4rz Water has the downside of blocking spawning locations for a longer time than a flying machine. Also, a witch farm has low enough rates that an AI-based solution might work out well enough if you don't need the witches to go anywhere else afterwards. The same principle works fine for spawner-based blaze farms - make the floor and walls from non-solid blocks (e.g. glass) and have a (spawn-proof) walkway of solid blocks around it with one opening at a side, where the blazes are tricked by trapdoors into thinking they can path out into the walkway.
It never occurred to me to try this kind of design for a witch farm. But then again, my AFK spot is usually too far away for their random wandering AI to be active.
Shulkers one is pretty quick and easy to build for early game and or happy to have "lower" rates, liked it alot. these sweeper ones are more for looting effect and exp grinder stations which theyre great for, still possible early game. dont be afraid to try both in a creative world, them settle on the one your happy with.

So i know im a year late to the party on this comment, but 1st of all i see you hit 100k so congrats. Also throughout the series so far you've mentioned about building better and trying to keep up with the other great "design builders" on the server. While I will say i am loving the design choices on Legacy 2, one of the simplest things that you can do to try to help with the look of the build would have been to line the terracotta up so that it was forming the right 4 block pattern across the spawning platforms.

Another week, another farm 😃 Talk about a conga line of witches! This was a really great episode, Logic - it was fun and the editing was top notch, so it didn't even feel like an almost 30' video. My only quibble (jokingly) is the randomly placed terracotta in the farm... I know the witches won't care but, as Avo would say, it's made my teeth itch 😆

now i wish id made my witch farm outta white glass, looks swish mate. hey, i though leaf blocks, slabs and glass were considered 'transparent' blocks in the game code? love the variation on the redstone and cheers for showing the "mob booster" for getting them into bubble columns, it gets used plenty but never seems to be added to vids as often as it should for new players. i get enough out of mine that the 2 observer/piston powered dropper just keeps up. great presentation, cheers
Hey Logic, may I suggest you use magma blocks on the bottom of the water tube transporting the witches. This will cause them to take damage but they will never die by it and this will prevent them from despawning while being transported to the bubble column.

Blue ice would be a nice upgrade later for the transfer tube. It's pricey as hell, but mobs it moves along much faster.
The mob speed doesn't matter much because this farm doesn't fill the mobcap
Ice under water streams does *not* affect mob traveling speed, not even blue ice.
@@TheRealWormbo It depends if they try to walk the opposite direction, hence why it purges mob farms faster.

Not sure how much difference it might make but if the flying machine was extended (machine not slime bar) to travel a few past the ends in both directions and another collection stream was added on the opposite end so that the witches continually spawned and are removed in both travel directions and then moved away from the spawn area as fast as possible would there be a significant increase?

Hey logic! Love the video! Any suggestions on increasing my spawn rates? I built the same farm but am getting very poor rates. I did spawn proof so the area is all swamp around but I’m wondering how high you afk? Thanks!
If you AFK 120 blocks above any point where a witch will be, you wouldn't really need to spawn proof anything near the farm, unless there's land, but if you cleared or lit up say 20 blocks around the farm, you should be fine
I did make sure I was high enough above the farm but I never seem to get more than 4 spans at a time. Seems strange.
What area does the game check for witches before spawning more? Is it just the witch hut itself, or a few more blocks around it? Just curious because having the transport tubes so close to the farm could effect rates if they're in the checked area
Witches spawn in a 9x7x9 area (the size of the floors he made and the size of the witch hut), so all spawnable space is used up

Out of curiosity, why did you opt for the single side drop? You could have placed a second water stream on the back side and had the flying machine push them off upon return. The spawning rates (from what I saw) seem to support this.
I think it's cause he wanted the flying machines to stay at rest for some time... I would assume that that would be hard to do if there was no back wall, but I'm not sure

Makes no difference. You can't make a farm more efficient by essentially killing off mobs quicker if the mob cap is never reached. Single (and double for that matter) witch huts never reach the mob cap, not even close (because available spawning spaces are so limited due to the small bounding box). At that point two drop shoots really just add unnecessary complexity and bulk to the build.
flying machines are surprisingly compact, but...why those, vs a trapdoor water sliuce style?
Also would you get any witches spawning while the flying machine is on the return? and is that accounted for?

Question; Is there a difference in having the entire spawning space encased to having a roof over it? Also how big is the roof? 20 blocks radius?
You could set another filter for the heads now and more importanly you can add shulker loaders and your 'bottomless item sorter'.
Also a strength and haste beacon I believe will help
A single-hut witch farm only produces at most 4300 items per hour, this one likely less due to the flying machine (and the witches themselves) blocking spots from time to time. Looting multiplies that number with about 2.2, i.e. to about hopper speed. And since items flow through a single hopper line here, a "bottomless" item filter is not necessary, as excess items will just go into the dropper and eventually the fire.
A strength beacon doesn't really speed things up, as killing witches isn't really the part that slows things down. Haste is only good for mining (you don't *want* to swing you sword faster, because you would lose the sweeping edge effect), so a beacon with regeneration and resistance is typically the choice for this kind of AFK scripted killing to offset the eventual health drain caused by depleting the hunger bar from swinging away at the witches for this long.
You said that placing composters on the top hoppers of the storage system would reduce lag. How does that work?
Hoppers check, if someting is above them the entire height, so if you place a block with storage above them, they will just check that block

Me being a bedrock player laughs at the idea of moving the witches for looting when we have trident killers.
Trident cannot multiply ur drops while a sword with looting can

How do the rates of this compare a farm like ilmangos? I have a perimeter already and I'm not sure whether or not it's better to build a player kill mechanism for looting, or a fall damage killer so they take up the mob cap for less time
Because a single witch farm doesn't fill the mobcap looting would probably be more efficient. though if you want a really efficient witch farm build CCS Convents raid farm

Yes CCS Convents isuses raid stacking so it can produce the equivalent to 25 witch farms
Ilmango's farm probably has better spawn rates than Logic's, but looting multiplies the number of drops roughly by 2.2, so if you want the maximum out of your witch farm, you could retrofit ilmango's design to have Logic's transport system where the entity cramming chamber would be.

Does the leaves on the top floor blocking the spider spawn not effect the surface spawning of the witches reducing the rates?
No because it still leaves the two blocks for the witches to spawn
@@zezulin_ I meany that he didn't want to build his afk platform above the farm because that would stop surface spawn on the top layer, but then he builds the leaves
He already had a roof on top of where he put the leaves so it didn't spread out the spawn attempts any more
@@atr1ka He could have instead lowered the flying machine to go along the floor instead of along the ceiling of each spawning floor. That would have allowed him to lower the slab roof by one block. It's always the highest block in the X/Z column that counts. The lowest possible slab roof of a witch farm is at Y=71, so mob spawn attempts will randomly pick from among Y=0 to Y=72, i.e. the spawning layers of the farm have a combined 3 in 73 chance (4.11%) to be picked. If the slab roof is one block higher, it's a 3 in 74 chance (4.05%) instead, dropping the spawn rates by about 1.35%. The leaf layer below the slab roof doesn't change that and Logic isn't concerned with making the most efficient farms all the time anyway, so whatever.
It would have been a much bigger deal to put the AFK platform above the spawning floors, because that would have been a much higher impact on spawn rates than that one block difference. (I'd estimate around 60% fewer drops.)

I planned to do the same design.
Exept the flying machines.
On serveur flying machine break quite often.
So i did a blaze farm with some slime bolck to push them and i'll use the same thing to push the witches.
