    I'd argue that without Asafa Powell, we wouldn't have Usain Bolt. He's supercharged sprinting for the nation of Jamaica with his technique and dedication to athletes as a whole. The dude wrote history for Usain Bolt to read and, when it was his turn, add another solid chapter.

      Jordan Lucky I can't decide whether it's that footage that makes them look faster or today's footage that makes them look slower. Whenever I watch a 100m on tv it looks much slower than in person.

    • @bensullivan5562
      @bensullivan5562 Před 7 lety +460

      I think when the footage is old and grainy their leg movement looks a bit more blurred (and hence looks faster). And who knows, even other tiny factors since that have improved the times like larger stride length i.e. Usain Bolt.

    • @Mrwiseguy101690
      @Mrwiseguy101690 Před 7 lety +288

      Noticed that too. I'm assuming the culprit is fps. Lower fps will make it look like the legs are moving faster because there's a lot of stuff happening in between frames. Whereas new 60fps cameras and displays show more detailed movement and creates an illusion that the legs aren't moving as fast. Just a theory though.

    Asafa is my favorite sprinter easily and he ran against himself WR wise (positive) and mentally too (negative). The man has equaled his own WR 3 times in a single year and the following year goes on to lower it. As far as I know he is the only man to do this. Amazing. Tyson Gay is the unsong hero, this man requires WR's to be defeated, I believe he holds the stat of most 2nd place finishes against a 1st WR race. Crazy. That is something that should be said: these athletes are always under massive pressure from the venue and the competition and Tyson Gay pushes people to the limits.

And having that what you'd think is at least 0.05 seconds worth of time he cost himself, could be the difference between the world record holding up for many many years. And bolts time is so much better than the next I feel like a 9.58 could hold up for like 30 years but a 9.53 could hold up for a lifetime. Even if it was 9.55 vs 9.58, that could be a multi decade difference. If I was bolt I'd want to try to see if I could hold the WR for the rest of my life. And by giving up those handful of hundredths of seconds, there's a decent chance that could ultimately be the kicker.

    Haha, I enjoyed Carl Lewis getting wrecked by Ben Johnson. Let's be real, both were on roids, Ben is for sure the better Sprinter. It wasn't until Asafa ran that Ben's record was broken (and Maurice and Tim Montgomery about tied it I guess).
    I still am so amazed by that 9.58 (as everyone is). Asafa ran a 9.8x there which is normally is a winning time, Asafa was a decent margin ahead of 4th, it was a clear 3rd place. Meanwhile Tyson ran one of the best times in history with a 9.71 I believe, a time that has only been bested by himself, Yohan and Bolt. Bolt still looked significantly ahead of someone who clocked a 9.71, mind blowing. I feel bad for Tyson, he's the second best sprinter in 100m history, tied with Yohan, yet he never held the WR. He had a few "WR" runs, but both were just barely over legal wind, he was 2nd place for Asafa's 9.74 and Bolt's 9.72 and only after the WR became a ridiculous 9.58 did he run his 9.69 legit.
