The first 4 books were already out by the time the first movie hit theaters. The movies did propel them higher, but the books were already doing incredible long before then.

Second, that is what she was commenting on (it was Scotland yards new policy that a rapist can identify as female last minute to avoid going into population with men, then transition back as soon as they leave jail). Third, how if commenting on nuanced situations gains the ire of that entire community, maybe it's not a stretch to consider them mentally unwell. Are you surprised that Voldemort/death eaters were inspired by the nazi or dwarfs from the lord of the rings being based on Jewish people being driven out of their homes or narnia being based on Christianity or Dune being about war/genocide in the Middle East. Fantasy stories always have some form of connection with the real world because that’s where the people are from and draw inspiration from. Drawing from this is not bad as these are world events, drawing from stereotypes is when it becomes a problem.

@@dessmi9184 Sure, there can be inspiration from the real world, however not *every* interpretation you draw from fiction is valid or matches the author's intention. It seems like you're relying on emotional reasoning: "I feel this way, and my feelings therefore reflect something real about what I'm seeing". It just doesn't work that way. We can read too far into things or misinterpret the original intention. If Rowling said an anti-Semitic trope wasn't her intention, why not take her at face value?
It just sounds like you're trying really hard to insist that your negative interpretation is the only valid way to react. Is it possible she was just working off of the existing canon of how such fantasy creatures were depicted?

Ask someone: hey what would you rather do read this whole book fordays or sit down and watch the movie for a couple of hours. Books are great but unless they’re holy books, visual mediums will always win since it’s less dedication/commitment.

@@dessmi9184 Actually yeah. The movies were well done, but the books were absolutely more impactful than the films at the time they were released. I knew several people who had read the first three books 20-30 times each prior to the first film being released. Kids were lining up out the door and around the block when a new book in the series would release and they were translated into dozens of languages before the films were even a thing.
17:21 couldn't disagree more. The parts of Chris Columbus talking to DAniel Radcliffe were my favorites. He did an amazing bringing that JK universe to real life and actually managed to bring in such a magical, warm, happy vibes to both movies. I wished he directed more movies instead of David Yates.
