    Great break down of the different modes and use cases. I've watched Will Prowse talk about units like this for a year now, but I really like the time you spent explaining everything. Looking forward to more of your videos about this project. I'm hoping to do something similar in the future.

    Interesting setup, I setup almost an identical 240vac system using a pair of growatt 24 volt all in ones 2 yrs ago, ( in prep for total grid failure and hurricanes, ( we lost power for two weeks in a recent hurricane down here in south florida)).
    We also have a grid tied main solar system. In the event of a full on grid failure I keep a couple extra breakers next to our main fuse box. So if the grid goes down I turn off the main breaker, ( locking it out), put my breakers in and power the main house with the 6000w 240vac backup system. Which is now providing the 240vac seed voltage to our main 12,000w solar, ( normally grid tied).
    Hopefully I never need to do that, but I am prepared if that day ever happens.
    You are a clever guy, and hopefully you can connect the dots with my brief description, ( key word is seed voltage for the grid tied system).

    I have had a hell of a time with Sungold and this unit. We have been through 3 units and I finally gave up after 6 months of back and forth with them. They have a few serious issues:
    1) The unit will ALWAYS pull from the battery and the grid regardless of mode. This put both of my large Lifepo4 packs into protection mode. When in grid bypass the unit still uses the battery to power itself. So even when you set the cutoff to say 51v if there isn't any solar for a day or 2 the packs quickly drop to sub 48V. Also, whenever connected to grid even if on battery it will also pull power. So when running in grid bypass you will be using 50ish more watts than the actual load plus 15-30ish watts being pulled from the battery.
    2) LED dimmers do not work with this unit. We went though over a dozen. Leading edge, trailing edge over 20 different bulbs.. always had a terrible flicker. You have to either remove the dimmers or go back to incandescent bulbs on those circuits.
    3) Certain loads will cause serious waveform distortion and affect other devices in the house. When our washer would run it would trip all the UPS's in the house due to the power fluctuation. The lights would flicker and certain devices not on UPS would just turn off. The worst offenders so far are the wife's hair straightener and the Keurig coffee machine. Since they use PWM the quick cycling of power confuses the inverter and without a large transformer inside it just can't keep up with the loads quick enough to prevent a voltage drop.
    I was promised a fix to these issues by Sungold and like I said 6 months later, nothing. They completely stopped responding. These are not isolated to just my unit. On the diysolarforum others have the same issues and have received the same treatment. Before the return window closes please be sure your unit works 100%!

    Thank you so much for your informative video! You really don't know how much you've helped me to understand the workings of my own, smaller unit!
    To put it simply and in a few words, the meanings assigned to "letter groups" such as UPS don't mean the same to me as they do to the people who wrote the manual. This particular setting has been driving me nuts because I am off-grid and starting with nothing, and I MEAN NOTHING, as in no home, no money, no equipment, etc., I depend upon the system for any and all of my power requirements.
    I'll admit, it took a lifetime of poor decisions and a 20 year bout with one of Satan's sister (she was... enticing... I'll leave it at that), I'm 64 and living off grid in the equipment storage yard of the construction company I work for. There are no utilities, and not even a mailing address, yet situated in the middle of a large suburban area.
    I started with a very small 19' fifth wheel trailer which leaves about the same floor space as a 14' bumper pull trailer. I was afforded power and water from a nearby business due to the added security my presence provided until one of the big-wigs found out and abruptly put a stop to it.
    Then I use a rather large and noisy company 12,000 watt generator that, by using a 3-stage RV charger, charged the two new 12 volt batteries I bought. This worked but sucked fuel like crazy until I could afford a smaller Westinghouse dual fuel, with wireless remote start, rated at 3600 watts that also ran off propane. I burned less fuel and didn't have to pay the high road tax demanded by Washington State.
    But I still had to run the generator every time I needed to use the microwave oven, which was 2-3 times each day. At least I didn't have to go outside to start it any longer.
    After being off work (again) and pretty much penniless again due to an injury (now I'm waiting to be scheduled for hip replacement surgery after joint damage cause by chemotherapy for late 3rd stage lung cancer that's now been in remission for 35 months!)
    Then I saw some information about the hybrid solar controller/charger/inverter.
    So for the last few weeks I've been using the generator, a single Chins brand 24 volt lithium battery (with plans for another 1-2) and the SUNGOLDPOWER 24 volt/3.0Kw inverter/charger/controller but the instructions have been a nightmare.
    Topping this off, I began my installation late one Friday afternoon, and when I had questions about what I was seeing on the display, I was certain something expensive was happening and there was no one to help when I sent email after email!
    After I settled down, the folks at SUNGOLDPOWER have been helpful with the many, many questions I've asked and patient with the ALL CAPS COMMENTS I've offered from time to time as well. LOL!!! They've provided a calm and competent response to every message I've sent.
    So far I've purchased two, 320 watt Renogy solar panels with more to come as finances permit. I'll just keep adding more until I don't have to run the generator any longer, and that will be a challenge here in the Evergreen State in the winter time!
    Over the summer I hope to create a woodworking shop in a shipping container and at that point I will upgrade to a 48 volt system with higher output.
    But this video you shared with the world has shed a new light on how I read the instructions. I've known there were language considerations to be aware of with terminology and such, but I really thought a UPS could only mean one thing, and that would be an "Uninterruptible Power Source".
    I'm never too old to learn something new and I should know by now that everything can't always be pounded together as I expect them to! From my point of view, everything is a nail! LOL!!!

    I am more interested in this solar system than those who are doing free installations from the company's, I am suspicious of the rebate's, and long term contracts, the large amounts of investment. Im more convinced by this solar system. thanks for you information it helps me a lot to know the system.

    I have 2 of them set up to run in split phase mode running my entire house. Although i only have 6 hours worth of basic lead acid deep cycle batteries to run the house on i normally keep grid on til sun comes up in morning and then turn off grid and let house run off solar all day. Using 9kw of solar panels to feed my system which is just barely enough on cloudy days but more than i need on sunny days unless im doing laundry running dryer or baking using oven. If bright enough out panels can even handle all that with a little to spare. Could have gone with a grid tie setup but didnt want to fill out paperwork getting permits and all.

    Can it be set up to output from inverter and input from any other form (just charging). Basically get rid of bypass and use the unit to be dirty power filter to always provide a clean voltage/freq. For instance in for an RV at a park that has not so good power from the pole.

    is this going to backfeed to the grid? does the utility company need to switch the meter out so it can back feed or does it only go one way from grid to you ? i would like to put breaker box do i need to be concerned about back feeding

    So my idea of a redundant system would include my RV as part of the system including solar panels, batteries and generator. I would want to power a tiny house off grid with loads like heater/ac or mini split, water system, cooking, refrigerator, deep freeze and a few electrical circuits and lighting support. I would use a location like AZ that would be sort of friendly to this sort of configuration. Maybe as a zinger add an electric car(toad) into the mix for charging or battery backup..... just sort of musing creating all kinds of interesting design configuartions. The big question is can we make a system for off grid that is affordable. Boondocking the house.... and I want my cake too hahaha!

      I have similar visions! I imagine a stand-alone house/building/RV, or what have you, and a different structure, on or off wheels, for water storage, fuel for a generator, space for a reasonable sized freezer and auxiliary refrigerator (I keep hearing that DC is the most energy efficient!), battery space, inverter/charger (hybrid or component) system and a large space for pantry items, all beyond the domicile.
      If it's on wheels, remove them for a bit of security but have the option to keep your personal-private utilities department if you ever decide you want to move.
      Additionally, a person would be able to have water storage in an environment that is protected from freezing with the ability to bring it to wherever it is that you need to go to for water and/or fuel (propane comes to mind).
      Right now I like this idea because I'm on rented land with hopes to own some remote, off-grid land someday soon.ever

    GM! Excellent video, question? what happens if your loads are greater than the inverter capacity? For example, I have 2 HVAC, and if the loads increase in and stable measure of time, the inverter will pull the power needed from the grid?

      Haven't tried it in a while, but I believe that is true with the source priority set appropriately. Example: Solar then Battery then Grid.

    Like your vidoes as well! Great work. One question if you dont mind?I bought this inverter based on your video i plan to used it the same way as your set up except i want to add a small subpanel with 2 breakers set up in single phase 120v. So where would i ground the busbar in the sub panel ? I will have the inverter connected to a/c and use the inverter in this order solar, battery then utility! I cant seem to find any info on this

      Ground should come from the AC input from your main panel. You'll need to make sure there's no ground/neutral bond in the inverter. There's a little screw inside to disconnect the ground/neutral bond (ask sungoldpower where). Then wire up your sub panel and keep the grounds and neutrals separate. If you're using a metal box, then be sure to connect a pig tail to ground it. I'm not an electrician, but this is my understanding. Trust but verify 😃. There are lots of videos about ground neutral bonding in sub panels.

      Glad you liked it. No. Not the whole house. Just isolating the shop for off-grid with AC input as a backup (kind of like an appliance). I believe WA still has solar rebates available based on the number of CZcams ads that pop up :)

    You plugged the AC input to a normal 15amp outlet. How long does it take to charge your battery base on the 15amp outlet? From my understanding and research when it’s tied to the grid via ac input the highest amperage you can drive it with is 20 amps -> 120V 20 amp breaker. Is this correct?

    How do you set absorbtion time on this unit? My experience is it will never go to float mode. High absorbtion voltage for a very long time in user mode as in all day every day is bad. So again how do you set absorbtion time on this unit?

    Hey Tito... I know you have a lot of comments to sift through, but my question is on the subject of solar panels. I have (9) 39voc panels I plan to split into (3) units each (series/parallel). If I was to go with (2) units (series/parallel) I would end up with (5) panels on one and (4) panels on the other. Do the (2) MPPT inputs need to have the same power coming in on each one, or can they be different due to having (5) on one and (4) on the other (?). Thanks for a great video.

      My assumption is that each MPPT will function independently and not require a matching power level. The outputs should be in parallel allowing the charge voltages of each controller to match and charge amps to be added together even if they are different. Just be sure each MPPT exceeds the 90 volt minimum.

      Any mode where Utility (U) is not the primary. Of course, you'd need more than just the inverter (batteries, solar, etc.)

    My understanding with the all in one units if the inverter or charger fails you may have to replace the entire unit losing your charge controller and inverter

      Yup. That's a risk of any all-in-one or hybrid system. As mentioned I would have steered clear of these in the past for that reason. Not anymore. Having all inputs coming into a single unit really simplifies the automatic switching. If you had two of these for 240V then you'd always have a backup :)

    How does it compare to the Victron? I have a Multiplus for my trailer but want a second system for my CONEX.

      That would probably be a good application for this. Victron has great software, networking ability and on-line monitoring (VRM) features all of which I really like. We use all Victron gear in the RV. If you plan to use multiple Victron components I'd go Victron for the networking features. For a basic 48V off-grid or hybrid system, an all-in-one like this works well. I'm actually reviewing another LV6548 soon. They're very popular units.

    Great video. Question without you getting into the weeds. How would (or could) a 48v inverter be compatible with my two 12v lithium batteries that I now have running in parallel? The Sungold website has lower voltage ones but then it goes down to only 2400w inverters which would be worse than our present Magnum 2800w inverter. Thanks for any advice as I've started with the lithium batteries and we're working our way to the whole solar setup.

      Took 39 days for me to get it delivered due to panels and batteries being out of stock. The panels finally arrived but the batteries didn't and I ended up going with the wall mount batteries which I do not like. They require special cables which they don't include and cost $45 🤬 I even told them I would only switch if it wouldn't cost me more and they said it wouldn't cost any more and it turned out it did. I was not happy as I am on a fixed income.

      It does have a programmable dry contact relay on the front to trigger a generator auto-start. Check Pg 12 of the manual linked in the description.

    I have the SP6548 in my 35' trailer running all the electric with 8 415w panels and two SG48100 wall mount batteries. I really like thus setup other than the wallmount batteries. I ordered the rack mount batteries but they kept delaying delivery because of not having the batteries. I now wish i could have waited longer for the rack mount batteries as these wall mount batteries require special cables to connect them properly. Still waiting on the cables to be delivered.

      It depends on your state. You would have to fill out all the paper work and have a full solar install.

      Hi tito, hubby and I love your videos. He finished our rv solar install a few months ago. He bought two sg6548 inverters and has them running in parallel split phase. All of a sudden we're getting f90 error codes on both. We know what it is, but can't get it fixed. Sungold has been a little help, but not much. Have you had this code appear? Apparently, it happens after 60 days of operation. So you have any ideas how to get rid of this problem? Tia!

      @barbrowe8670 Hi Tia. Sorry, but I don't have a good answer. We've been on the road quite a bit and haven't had the chance to fully install the two inverters in split phase in the shop. I do plan to in the near future. I'd ask the question in the DIY Solar Forum. There are lots of folks using various versions of this inverter.

    Because of the PV connectors, this inverter will not pass the inspection. EG4 6500EX solves this problem.

      What is the issue with the MC4 connectors if you dont mind me asking? Should they be hard wired?

      @@RVwithTito The main purpose of the MC4 connector was designed to have rain-tight feature, this is mainly used to connect PV panels together.
      The solar wires carry high voltage, the code requires to route the wires inside a conduit. The EG4 6500EX has holes for PV conduits. Both inverters are OEM versions from the same manufacturer. However, the EG4 inverter have upgraded cooling fans and other main parts so that it is better version. Besides, the EG4 inverter has a higher MPPT voltage, up to 500V, this is a plus if you have PV panels which are far distance from your inverters.

      @@cotandiet6096 OK. Yes. I'm aware of the conduit requirement for DC. It has to be grounded metal conduit too as soon as it enters the house. Could probably retrofit one of the units so the solar terminates inside in the inverter. Thanks for the reminder.

      @@RVwithTito There is no need for grounded conduit. (Grounded conduit is only for shielding high frequency signal from noise). The conduit can be any kind like pvc, flex non-metal or metal, or emt. Do not connect earth ground to solar dc negative or negative of batteries.

      @@cotandiet6096 The grounding is just for the racking, conduit and metal boxes inside (flexible PVC on the roof). I used flexible MC and metal boxes once the cables enter the building. Here's my understanding per NEC 2020: 690.31(D) Direct-Current Circuits on or in Buildings. Where inside buildings, PV system dc circuits that exceed 30 volts or 8 amperes shall be contained in metal raceways, in Type MC metal-clad cable that complies with 250.118(10), or in metal enclosures.

    Interesting...UL Rated? I wasn't aware that was a thing. Maybe it's just a play on words to trick the consumer. UL Listed or UL Certification. Just like saying UL Tested and Rated means nothing.

      I've seen a couple folks do it. They had massive systems. 48V battery system is probably overkill for most RVs though, especially for a single leg of 120V. You'd probably want 240V and a very large setup to make it work and absorb the idle consumption. Hope that answers your question.

      I have a 24v 3kw all-in- one in a 40’ bus (240v Australia), with 2 x 5kwh lipo4 batteries & 2kw of solar, works great so far, but a coffee machine 16-1800w + microwave 12-1400w will trip it some times, so I generally use them separately to make a coffee. A 2.5kw split inverter air con only uses 500-600W to cool the bedroom area overnight & up to 1800w running full boar on a hot day pulling about 50-60amps @ 26v.

      @@evil17 yes i was looking at 3k to 3.5 k inverters all in one and wondered how it would work at 120vac.. 800 watts solar 400AH battery.. but the inverters are 24volts....

      @@fredyow5395 I’d imagine they would work fine @ 120v on 24v system. Im guessing you have 12v system in RV & this is why ur hesitant about using a 24v system and I’m sure thee are a number of ways around ur concerns, like maybe a 12v-24v charging system for when ur travelling to charge batteries, the solar pv system voltage will need to be higher, and u may want a small 30A 24v-12v buck inverter if u have any 12v gear u want to run, but I would encourage anyone to start thinking outside of the (12v) square and consider 24v or even 48v AIO systems for higher power & simplicity for RV installations. Just my thoughts. Cheers

    totally regret buying sungold, out of the box had an f11 code after emailing the Chinese like 100 times refusing to open it up as they told me to do since they wanted to fix it myself, I even offered to pay to ship it to them which I did, when I sent it in, they returned it after a month scratched and a loose screw inside only then I opened it to retrieve the loose screw to find out they did not fix it, send it in a second time...hillbillies did not fix it even the second time.

    Sugold power sent me an inverter with an underpowered charger.
    The battery select mode does nothing. Each setting charges at 27.2 V.
    This is not suitable for my Lifepo4 batteries.
    Customer service was useless.
    They did not honor the warranty or admit their mistake.
    Do not purchase from them.
    They will rip you offf.
    Thankfully, my credit card company refunded me.
