Awesome progress getting the cab off and set on the new chassis! I think you are correct in saying you have $500 in the cab for your build and if you make that trailer and sell it you will be in the negative amount on your build. I will see you this weekend in Tulsa!!
Right on see you in Tulsa!
Nice to see the build moving forward and things coming together. Enjoy the Starbird show!
Thanks, will do!
$500 is fai5 for the cab, it is in great shape. It's coming together good so far, let's pray there are no unforeseen costly issues that arise. But I am loving this build.
Yeah that's why I couldn't let him junk it and if the trans is good I think we are going to be ok
That cab is in really pretty good shape. I’m glad things are starting to come along .
Me to!
It sure looks allot different RV/C50 great work guys…….. Oh happy Valentine’s Day back at ya!
Antony Definitely a nice C50 $500 dollar truck Starting to take shape Good Story
Thank you for reminding me of the times my Dad and I did this with a couple of old Cars and Trucks we drug home. Great memories, sometimes a little sketchy but we always got home safe.
That's one fine C50 cab and sheet metal .
Man I cant wait for this to come together! Love it!
You and me both!
I say what your in it for the 500 as of now is fair. your using what you already have laying around. glad to see the progress.
Everything sounds good Anthony! Can't wait till next week!
I love those old dump bodies. I'm down here in Mexico and have an International Harvester S-1600 that I would love to have a dump bed for. They are super handy.
I love the old Loadstars! Yeah an old Dump truck is handy!
This is going to be your coolest build to date. And that is saying a lot!
I hope your right!
1972 was the only year in this series that would have the plastic door panels 67 through 71 are all metal.
However with the optional custom interior the metal door panels are wrapped in padded vinyl to match the seats.
Nice to see you building again.
In your new shop you need to build an overhead crane
cool cool like the road trip ,and the build
Things in awesome shape 💪💪
If you get some time to watch a couple of episodes of Trail Mater it might give you some ideas on towing with your boom truck.
I’m really interested in this build as I am planning to put a ‘79 F700 on a similar chassis.
I just subscribed, this build is going to be awesome to watch! Have fun brother!
Thanks for the sub!
I have a 71 with modern axles, 24v Cummins and a 9 speed. I also have a 83 c60 dump truck and a 82 c70 tandem drive.
Sounds like a great start to some fun!
Dang son. You are building a beast. Looking good so far. I would love being there learning from you. So cool!
Come on down!
@@HardCoreFab I am tempted. I used to live in Lawrence, KS. Loved it then got transferred. 1999
Another awesome video gonna be awesome
Thanks!
14:55 LOL - your that guy in town!!
🤣🤣🤣 maybe
😂😂😂
Just found your channel and I just subscribed...!!!!
I will be watching your other videos to catch up...!!!!
Welcome aboard!
Thanks for the show guys 🍻 🇦🇺
Our pleasure!
IMHO, it's very reasonable to value the cab at no more than $500. If you can realize $500 or more from clipping the frame and selling the bed as a dump trailer, that money should recoup what you have actually invested into it to this point in time.
That said, I'm really excited to see this build finished! This is exactly what I've wanted to do for a long time. When I was about 10, my Grandpa had a '39 Dodge truck cab, and at that young age, I wanted to build it but never had the chance to get the project started. Give her hell buddy!
Thanks buddy!
It’s coming along 👍👍
Slow and steady!
500$ I think is fair. Like you said It's a wash. Keep on keeping on.
60 degs in Hutch in Feb was way higher than anything I experienced back when I was living there. Maybe the climate is getting warmer.
Maybe! If so, I'm not complaining!
Rat50 is an awesome name
You could always Zee the frame and lower the frame rails under the cab.
I was hopping to not have to on the front but it may come to that.
Pocket change would be a good name since on a budget
I like it!
I’ve never heard that those motors had different distributors, I would have done the same thing
Pretty cool.. 👍😎💯
Thanks ✌

Hey Anthony,
If you could actually get stuff done as fast as the video goes you would eventually get ahead of time !
But back to reality.
Your luck with the grain truck really sucks, but stuff happens !
If you are going to stay with the taller wheels and tires, you are going to have to figure out other ways to drop the rig.
Bagging it will help of course.
I wonder if you might be better off using the lighter, smaller grain truck chassis ?
Just a thought.
Time will tell.
Be safe, Take care.
See ya in the next installment.
I think I got a plan to make it work but a 1 ton maybe easier.
Sounds reasonable $500 for this cab towards build
Also like 29-30 truck at farm, build it sometime too
It's a someday project LOL
I would think that if you owned it before the competition was announced the build cost would be anything done after that announcement
Put yourself a big industrial fan in your shop. Blast warm exterior air in to cold shop.
One step ahead of you. LOL It makes a big difference real quick!
@@HardCoreFab revisable. Take out the fumes.
I would say that you already had the truck and you didn’t buy specifically for the build!
Like the progress, been waiting for this build because I want to build a rat hauler as well!
Definitely fair. You just used the tin
No just keep it at 500 for sure👍
I used to work on electric forklift your little pallet jack go out and buy a specific gravity meter to check how much acid is in each battery fully charge it pull out the caps fill until they just barely covers the electric plates that you see in the hole then you can go out and buy a trickle charger and jump each cell charge them up overnight individually with a constant current charger this will push the acid out of the plates and the fluid inside will rise this is why you don't want to fill it all the way it will overflow it looks like it's overflowed a few times and you can be low on acid you can buy acid and replace it instead of water to increase your battery life
Good to know! Thanks!
How I see it is that anything before the project started doesn't count towards the budget. But that's just me
I had a 69 model truck just like that one it was a fire truck only had 17 thousand miles on it an was state maintained had a Factory427 an 2 speed rear end I put a dump bed on it. It was a tanker truck before had a perfect body it was a really great truck
That's a great find
Could you use the frame and bed from the old frame for your trailer part of the build
That's not a bad Idea but I have some other ideas that may work a little easier
IMO, you paid $500 For the truck, that’s what you should count! All the other stuff you did was just normal maintenance.
I'd say $500 is fair. It's hard to get a real estimate because it's not like you bought it specifically for this project. My dad and I built a Honda oval track car last winter and used a pile of spare stuff we had anyway. So I spent about $2000 (Canadian. So $6 American) in materials but already had a seat and belts and a bunch of other necessary stuff from a different car. It might be interesting to know what you spend excluding parts already on hand. It would make us parts hoarders feel better. 😂😂
$6 LOL
Build a electric over hydraulic dump trailer like I did mine...
I agree $500 for cab
This is gonna be a spectacular build! What is the truck that the chevy was sitting next to?
I'm not sure which one your talking about but Old Crow is on one side and Hookers and Blow is on the other. Both builds are here on the channel!
I think he was talking about the old truck out on the farm.
I was talking about the 30s model truck out at the farm.@@HardCoreFab
Nice vid, you need a good power washer.
Yeah all in do time I hope!
Pretty slick towing job...
My take is none of the "repairs" are transferring over to your new project. I think the original purchase price is fair.
Good morning
Is the hood going to be long enough to cover motor home engine? Ron
Those truck came with a big block as an option so it will be fine. They recessed the fire wall back to make up for the short hood.
Antony, Thanks for sharing. I am one of the entries and I have/had the similar dilemma. Last summer I bought a 53 iH p/u because it looks like in the post a good candidate to build a rat rod. When I went to look at it, I thought this is defiantly a rat. I made an offer to the guy, but his wife was firm on the price, $675.00. So I paid the lady. I had no intention on building this truck for a while. When I saw your video on the rat rod build off 24 I entered this 53 iH. I wanted to put a different chassis under it, so I went out to the barn and pulled out another truck that I bought 3-4 years ago and removed the 99 Chevy 3500 chassis out from under and will be using it on the 53 iH p/u. So I been wondering, do I go back 3-4years and add what I paid for the truck that I am using the chassis it was on? I will either be selling the cab or use it in a trade deal. Either way it will be toward the build off project.
Well, I'm obviously not the one to make any decisions.
But from what I understand, you have the $675 minus any income you would have from selling extra pieces that you don't use. Then you would add the price you paid for the 99 Chevy.
Minus any money you recoup from selling extra parts. Sounds like a great project. Keep me posted on the progress.
What is the Motor Home wheelbase before cutting frame ? Thanks !
I haven't changed the wheelbase it is right at 15 feet. The whole frame before I cut it off was 30 or maybe 32 feet right in that neighborhood.
It probably took you longer to tear that damn thing apart
Than it took them to build it lol...
Can you notch the front frame rails and raise the cross member up, to lower the truck? Of course, you'll have to raise the motor also. Or just "Z" the front...
It may come to that we'll see where we end up
I didnt know anything about the ratstock let alone the build off. Phyco Silo is awesome. Only about an hour and a half from my house. Ty for doing this. You have inspired me to do the same. Im having an issue similar to yours. Ive got a 66 f350 runs and drives. I traded a focus straight across for it. Then ive got a 02 dodge ram 1500 that my wife rolled and has been sitting behind my garage for 2 years now. My issue is i dont know where to start my budget at because its stuff i already have. What are your thoughts?
Sounds like a great start to a project! Just an FYI the magazine did have to cut off the entry to the build off when they got to over 300 entries. You can still build and show up to the show!
@HardCoreFab , i dont care if it wins or not, its the challenge and a way to spend time with my kids that mean the most to me. I think im even going to let my daughter enter the jr. Class. We have a couple old gokart frames for a good start. I also think it would be cool to meet and hang out with you. Ive followed you for a while now, back when you first started old crow. I love what you do, keep up the great work.
does the c50 have the hydro boose unit under the cab i am looking for one for a 1966 d500 dodge they tell me they interchange most brands easily
It does. That's what I had to fix when I first got it. I had planned on putting it on ebay or something but we forgot to unhook one of the lines going to it and broke a fitting off when we pulled the cab. If a guy had another one it could probably fix it.
is that something i might be able to repair or use part of mine if so how much i have a 1966 D500 Dodge with a Holmes 500 on back got from second owner only had 50,000 original miles the seat isn't even tore. i have a small you tube channel did a walk around it Dependable Auto Truck
I don’t think I would paint the cab or anything related to the original truck. That paint just needs a coat or two of clear. Awesome project.
I agree with you if we were just doing the cab but we will be welding up and on a new sleeper so it will need something.
How much would it have cost you to have someone haul the loads you hauled with it or truck rental?
Yeah there is that too
Why don't you save the old chassis with the hydraulics for your rear trailer? You could have it tilt with ramps to load your hot rods on
That could be an option
turn that heater
into a smoker!!!
You will need the heat sooner than think weather men lie 🤥
Yeah it's looking like it!
I'd say the $500 is more than fair. Aren't you supposed to have plates on the tow truck or does it get away with farm use?
It's on the headache rack. With a cable truck they don't last very long on the bumper.
I’m thinking you already own it so,,,, there’s no cost for the build
I’d say $500 is good.
No matter what you do your vehicle pay for the vehicle would you put into it afterwards doesn't count it's still 500 truck
meh, its a wash, I would say its fine to sell the parts even.
You already own it so that don’t count in my book. What you buy for it starts from there.
Well I hear you but what if one guy has a blown hemi and a 32 ford when it starts. Not exactly a level playing field at that point.
Just shorten the step to deal with the 17 inch measurement. Its the only part that hangs that low.
That's what I had decided to do. Way easier than Zing the frame. Your the first person to make that comment.
I made the comment about using truck stacks as side pipes too. Lol.
I stand no chance in this build off with you bringing the big guns…
I'm probably not the one to worry about there's a lot of great builders out there with some great ideas!
I posted a comment on the build off announcement by RRM to put together a list of the builders - if they have one I would subscribe to everyone entering
I would saying calling it at 500 is more than fair. If you really wanted to get into parting and scrapping whats left, i think you could get more than 500. I can do ya one better on locking a motor up. Swapped out a 305 for 350 in one of my old chevy trucks. Had it running well, straddling a drive over pit looking for leaks, etc. I was underneath, and it died. Didnt think much of it, tried to restart and all i got was a click click. Charger on battery, still nothing, checked all my wiring and replaced battery, still nothing. By now I'm irritated, and doing a lot of " what the f@ckung*. Starter maybe? Nope. About that time i noticed that i hadnt put the distributor hold on back on. What a freakin' bine head move. After 4 hours plus of cussing and a 12 pack, i decided to see how bad motor was seized. Took my primer and pumped oil through the motor for a few minutes and put a breaker bar on the crank bolt. I got the motor turning over, put everything back together and drove it. I'll bet i put another 75k on it without once having an issue-still ran when i sold it. I couldn't believe how lucky i got, what probably saved me was it was at an idle the whole time.... U remember hearing once there were two different oil drives on the s.b.'s, but not that it was truck specific. I still, after 60 years learn something new every day
You got lucky for sure! I was running down the road at 50mph when she locked up. Not so lucky. LOL
Rat50
I disagree with you about the $500, you already had the truck, you didn't purchase it for the competition, so no to the $500 to be added to the budget.
You’re in it for $500, + engine , + brake cylinders , + brake booster. Your math sucks and you are deceiving yourself. Oh, plus 28 man hours.
I bet you're real fun parties!
You should do less talking you talk for 13 minutes in a 37 minutes show and then you time lapse the work done you would more subscribers if you do less talking and more of the show in real time instead of time lapse
Can't make everyone happy I guess
He told you he was taking it to the scrap yard you’d tried to do to much driving it around
