- Today we are dropping the C50 cab onto the old camper chassis. The question is, will it fit like I'm hoping it will?
Plus, if you are in the build off, please leave us a link in the comments so we can promote you and we can all follow along!

I'm building the same truck on a cube van chassis with an LS and I had to cut the firewall in the same place. A radiator out of a 05 chevy 1 ton van or P.U. will fit perfectly in the front clip with just a little work on the hangers & is much smaller. Good luck
That sound like a better way to go with the van chassis and LS but I didn't have any of those to buy. I'll check out the 1 ton van radiator.
I have nothing valuable to share other than to say that I snickered when you said “whacked off”. 😂
That is all.
First comment on this video to make me laugh so you win!
A list is a great idea! I love watching everyones builds!
We hope to have the “rat heep” at the build off, 1950s willies truck cab that was melted last yr in nova scotias worst forest fire to date. All goes well i look forward to meeting ya and seeing your build
Right on! We hope to see you there!
Props to y'all for supporting all of the other builders out there. I will be putting my videos of my build up on my channel, @reddogmotorsports . I look forward to checking out everyone's progress going forward this year. Its going to be a fun time, really looking forward to it.
I'm really looking forward to it as well and we have you added to the list!
Don’t have a project for the build off, but I am documenting my build on here. Hope to get better. Got my encouragement from you, CWC, Piece & Grease and Rat Rod Bob. You guys make it look so easy. Hope you can check mine out.
Will do!
Way to drop the f bomb julie 😂 keeping it 💯!!!!
😂
LOL
Gettin after it anthony..
👍😎💯
Can't wait to see going on with the build😊😊
Coming along nicely Antony Good Start
It would look awesome to stretch the fenders. It would be unique!
Very nice progress in this episode man! I think putting a list of builders with channels getting their stuff put together and in the Rat Rod Buildoff would be pretty cool Anthony!
I agree - I’m building one on my channel as well and I emailed Rat Rod magazine weeks ago and got no answer … I also asked if there are places for builders to make reservations for the build off weekend … still waiting
They did cut off the entries a couple of weeks ago. Did you get entered before that? As for reservations it's basically in the middle of nowhere. I would just google it and get something sooner then later.
@@HardCoreFab I am just along for the ride watching you all build the coolest ramp truck ever!
Yes, I have been entered for quite some time but when it originally emailed them, they said they would get back about lodging options. I guess I will look into it.
After I sent my entry in and got a reply back I am go to go, I immediately stated looking for lodging and found nothing in Langley IL, there some in Sheffied/Princeton area. I got reservation at Hickory Grove Campground & RV Park, Sheffied IL about five minutes from/to Psycho Silo Salon. @@MarekMakes
I like the Banjo music.
A lot of work Anthony, but worth it!
It’s coming along nicely 👍👍
Thanks man!
I tried to put a 5.9 into a c50.
No foot space because of huge dog house. So got in my mind to use c10 front clip.
4 foot vs 5 foot long clip.
A firewall and doors, and front clip later here we are. Plus kick panels mod.....
I put my c50 on a dodge frame with a cummins with zero firewall mods
Sweet build excited to watch the rest of the videos. A bit of constructive advice. Less talking show more of the work! Keep up the good work
Looking good brother
Like the song less talk and a lot more action!
The budget definitely makes some decisions for you. And some times the best choice is staying the course
100%
Anthony, it looked like the forward body mounts did not have the same stand off from the frame rail left and right; could you have shifted the cab by swapping sides with the mounts? I know a BBC will fit in that hole on a 67-71 C !0, having done that years ago. Lots of awesome coming on this project! Loved the shout out for another builder; there are a half dozen "Rick Nixon" sites, none so far looking like building a car; a little more use of the "pop up" boxes so the editor can put more specific info in would be helpful. Or you could have included it in your notes.
gonna be cool Anthony!!! Go Man Go!!!
Thanks!
I'd bolt the cab mounts to the cab and then set it on the frame where it is supposed to be right behind the motor and go from there
Looking good you can do it
Thank you finally car content
Beautifull job Sir. I love it
Thank you very much!
Anthony I used a radiator from a 2002 Chevy van with a 8.1 from oriellys!
It fits perfectly and has a radiator cap
Right on!
Keep up the good work brother 👍
The only thing I'm not a fan of on this build is the limited budget. Although, I have no doubt that you will build it into a great looking ride. Looking forward to the progress on this beast.👌🤘👍😎🔥🔥🔥🔥
The budget makes it harder for sure but it also mean a guy has to be more creative and that's kinda fun!
Cool
Just saw all the wood on the old chassis. You could maybe use that wood to make the floor of your new bed. Just doin' some arm chair quarterbacking for you !!!
vroom vroom keep it up
Love to see an artist problem solve.
Hey Anthony,
I wish I had the time to join you in your shop.
I am by no means an expert builder, but I do have a lot of experience at modifying and redesigning vehicles.
I see several alternatives to some of the things you have done or are doing.
I plan to be in Hutch tomorrow ( thursday the 7th ) and will plan on stopping by at least for a meet.
So maybe see you then.
Take Care
Just seen this LOL I'm glad you stopped by!
How about a bolt in panel in the firewall then you could get to the distributor really easy. Especially since you have to cut it anyway.
You can eliminate that heat/air box on the firewall by using a Vintage Air set up under the dash.
The $5000 said no to Vintage Air LOL
Honestly, if you can't at least put the condenser behind the grill in front of the inner structure I'd get an inverter big enough to run a small window unit A/C in the back wall of the sleeper, as a 27 year long haul trucker I can promise you that you don't want to spend a night in that box without any kind of cooling, and you can take out the back window and cut the opening down to the floor and have a walk-in sleeper just like the big rigs, if budget allows you can even get the weather seat (boot) that seals the cab to the sleeper. I love this project and it's definitely gonna be cool
Nixons Garage, Rat Rod Garage, and Metal Devil Customs are some others with their builds for the buildoff on CZcams.
Is moving the engine forward an option? I like buying vans from 1996-2000 and getting the Gen 6 EFI big blocks with 4!80e trans to swap into everything, they are way better on fuel and have a lot more power than the early motors like you have, by the time I sell the parts the motors are usually free. The other option is a 8.1L and Allison trans from a Kodiak or Too kick, that’s what I put in my P30 chassis Airstream Motorhome, more power, more gears netter to tow with, it fits mint in that chassis
The air conditioning hardware is already there. You need an evaporator for inside the cab.
Wake me up anybody that has any experience with the 67 to 72 Chevy pickups nose that there are specific big block caps and small block cabs and most people wanting to put a big block in a small block cab typically just take a torch at a ball peen hammer and clearance the firewall
G day a isuzu cab over truck has a condenser under the cab of the vehicle and it has a electric fan as part of it
Hey, I 4 medium duty trucks. A 71, 81, 83, and a 68 f600. There is a couple of fb pages for these trucks. That brake booster has some value to some of the guys on the pages.
I need to try and put it back on just in a better location
@HardCoreFab for what you are doing you will be better off with hydroboost or firewall mounted booster. Most of us running medium duty trucks are switching to hydroboost. Some want to keep original or don't have the ability or means to swap.
That is the gas line to the generator.
Greetings from oz love your work. Why don’t you put your air con on the roof or back sleeper wall with elec fans like an old mark4 or red dot unit like a big rig.
That could happen
Good evening
Morning!
I may have missed it in the video but did you say how wide both frames were? I know you said they were the same but i didn't notice the dimension. I have a '54 GMC 630 that I'm looking to do that same kind of swap and if an RV game is also the same width i have i might go that route.
34 inches
Put some cab air bags off of Simi truck for the sleeper
I thought about that
Geez all u got to do is move first cross member forward n cut holes for the mounts to fit it into it
Whats the plan with the SM465 on the other chassis?
Sell it to you I guess LOL
@@HardCoreFab I have a friend in Wichita that needs one
no AC? that sucks
Mayby pulling engine, trans, rad., ect. Then put the cab where you want it. Then place the engine/trans., and work with it. Those cabs came with big blocks, right?, what?,,,DUBS
what is the name of your channel (FAB) so fab it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
What model lift is it and how high is it under the arms? I’m 6’2” and with boots on it’s hard to find ones tall enough without the extenders
Sorry it's taken so long to get back with you, I kept forgetting to get the model number off it. It's a Champion Lift Model TP9HD with a 6ft maximum lifting height.
@@HardCoreFab no problem, thanks!
Is the engine in same location as far as height wise from frame
maybe down just a bit but pretty close
do you have plans for the smog manifolds on the big block? maybe sell them to a fella and throw that money back to the build?
That's food for thought
Would you not need to place front clip on to line up cab placement 😊
I'm pretty good at measuring things
Love the build😊
All good .. but u ought to have a longer vid time .. more work while u talk .. but all in all enjoy u guys and ur vids .. great project … GET UR DONE
Ive got a 04 gmc 3/4 ton with 6.0 id be willing tobdobsome trading on
Ready! Where are you located
What about moving motor/trans., forward a few inches? Less work in the long run, then all that metal work, right? what?,,,,,DUBS
No room in the front and the metal work isn't that big of a deal
Electric fans aren't recommended for towing. Clutch fan is the way to go.
but if it don't fit it don't fit
Aren't bearings supposed to smoke lol
Ummm...... LOL
Why not use original frame and change the engine out.
Newer motor home frames have four wheel disc brakes
Yes the newer frame has disc brakes motor already mounted and A arm style frontend which will ride, and drive better. Plus it will be easier to air bag
I am doing a build for the build off I haven't gathered everything yet and I have a CZcams channel John show car builder
Right on we will add you to the list!
I say cut the firewall
Do it right not making things up geez
I don't half ass shit. It will be right when you see the big picture!
