When Police make an arrest, they are SOLELY and COMPLETELY responsible for the health and safety of that suspect. If they beat or intentionally injure a handcuffed subject, it is not only a violation of rights, it is a crime. A handcuffed subject cannot even protect themselves during an unlawful attack by an officer. That makes them especially vulnerable. I hope the officers are fired (all of those involved for filing false reports and for not reporting the assault) and charged. As to the lawsuit, I hope the Officers are stripped of their qualified immunity ( they knowingly acted outside the law and policy, as such they acted as a private citizen) and have to pay damages PERSONALLY.

Their "swift action" was to allow Benitez to retire with a pension of $9,600. a MONTH. The only evidence of the attack was surveillance footage from outside Alvarez’s house. Officers had removed their body cameras and parked their cars facing away from his house, preventing them being on tape from their dash cameras. I didn't find any record of Benitez ever facing criminal charges. Alvarez settled for less than $600,000.

THIS is why they don't like when the copwatchers show up with their cameras. Cameras DON'T lie. All those cop who just stand by and just watch the bad cop do this stuff, ARE bad cops, because THEY don't report that this is going on right in front of them. Then in time those cops DO what they've been watching.
