- Here's a Jesse Fuller song my dad filmed in the his garden one deceptively freezing February afternoon. Jesse recorded it in 1954 and it's been covered by countless others since. Check him out accompanying himself with some homemade bass contraption • Jesse Fuller - San Fra...

The guitar is a Martin 000-15.

Is this on one of your albums by any chance?
Hi, yeah, it's on "The Wasted Years", only available digitally at the moment - davidbroad.bandcamp.com/album/the-wasted-years
@@davidbroad thank you so much for your quick response! My dad was a blues guitarist and he’s the one who directed me to you , as your rendition of this song took him back to the old blues clubs of Cardiff. I grew up not with bedtime stories but bedtime songs and I have my dad to thank for that. I’ll certainly purchase the digital version for him and I hope you’ll press some vinyl as there’s nothing like that anticipation when the needle arm is lowered and believe me he deserves to hear you on vinyl!
Edited to add just ordered
Thank you, what an incredible version of a wonderful song. Your playing is mind-blowing. Whenever you’re feeling a bit down, play this this, it can’t help but bring a bit of joy into your life, thank you, thank you…

Awesome.
nice interpretation in the "good ol´" fingerpicking style... great!
Thanks Uwe!
This song should always make the listener move, and this incredible rendition had me bouncing in my chair. I can't wait to hear your stuff!
Thank you!
Since the 60's I have played this song by The Rooftop Singers with their heavy 12 string sounds, only because I never found another version I preferred, until I came upon your version. Fantastic!
Absolutely the best. Your picking on that little Martin is flawless, your voice is great, a wonderful combination.
Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
Thanks so much for your kind words! My dad always requests this song, think he must have heard the Rooftop Singers version when he was younger
superb rendition
Thanks Lacy!
Talented man
Great cover.
Respect!!
A brilliant interpretation of this beautiful old song!

Merci Christian!
Sounds bad ass man
Great playing!
Thanks!
Damn, that was good ! I Had the pleasure of seeing Jesse Fuller in Oakland waay back when.
Incidentally my first guitar was a 1939 00-17 bought in 1961.
Wow, that's amazing! I can't imagine.
Think that's similar to Bob Dylan's early guitar. And quite similar to the 000-15, which is mine
Fantastic! What an excellent rendition - faithful to the original and only bettered by the great Mr. Fuller himself. Much, much better than versions by other 'famous' musicians, because you actually understand the song.
Thanks man, what a nice comment!
@@davidbroad You're more than welcome. Really wish I could play guitar like you.
@@zedmanz I'm going to be putting some more lessons up soon, so hopefully you'll be able to!
@@davidbroad You've inspired me to book some proper lessons - my first one is on Tuesday!
@@zedmanz Ah great, hope it goes well! I'm going to do some more lessons on here, so if you've got any requests, get them in.
Superb.
Thank you! Cheers!
Double awesome
Thanks Luke!

Tres beau jeu de guitare ! chapeau bas ..👍👍
Merci beaucoup Francis!
I like it - the best version I've found on CZcams!
Check out Alonzo Garbanzo's version.
@@Banzo_ I checked his version and I prefer the finger picking in this version! BTW - check out Joe Robinson's vision - it is amazing!
Talent in spades👍🏻
I need to learn this version
I should do a lesson for this someday.
You are very cool!
Oh, man. Finger picking like a whirling dervish!
Great cover!
Thanks Jordi!
Great version David.
Thanks David!
We got Blind Blake's grandson here ! A "sporting right hand", Rev. Gary Davis used to say ! Keep going, dude. Thanks from Italy
Think that's the best compliment a man could get! Thank you.
A perfect example of why the guitar is my only true love
Oh shit! You from NH?! I live in the lakes region... bad ass music man!
EDIT... I though your channel name was :603 subscribers".. which is New Hampshires area code.. lmao. Now it's 604
Haha, no, from Leeds, West Yorkshire! 🤣
Super !
Thank you very much!
Отлично!
nice groove😂
This is incredible. I'd love to see the tablature if you could point me to it.
This is some great Travis/Gary Davis picking - it doesn't work unless you really get that thumb going!
The president of US BANK, giving a break to his employees to go back to earth
What is the picking pattern? I've been wanting to play this for over a year and dont know how you're strumming it! Amazing piece of music, my favourite version of the song by far!
It's pretty much 1 2 3 & 4 &. Don't Think Twice It's Alright is a good place to start.
Really moving and best performance afterJesse's of course - did your Dad dip his fingers in a bowl of hot water before he went out into the garden? - apparently concert pianists did this when they were about to go into a freezing cold concert hall!
Thanks John! I don't think he did, but I'm definitely going to use that tip. It's April in Yorkshire and it's still bloody freezing out!
easy good!
Thanks Berni!
DECENT
Perfect, and liked the suit look. What year was this recorded?
Thanks! It was winter 2019.
Do you think you'll do a lesson for this someday? I love your take on it and cant figure out the picking pattern from the video!
Magnificently played, Sir!
I've had a few requests, so hopefully I will get round to it. Just been moving house, so once I get sorted I'll be putting some more videos up.
@@davidbroad That would be fantastic!! I'd love so much to play it in your style!! Best of luck with the move, love the content and shows 🙂
Hey, are u in standard tuning for this? (Other than that you have capo on 2nd fret of course.)
Yep, it's just standard, key of C
make a tutorial! I'll work my ass off to learn it
Ok, I'm going to start thinking about that... That's a start. I've been so busy but I have a little bit of time at the moment so maybe....
@@davidbroad great to hear from ya. I hope you find the time, I'd be really grateful.
@@davidbroad Hope you find the time!! I've come back every month for over a year praying to see one so I can play this song like you one day. It is my dad's favourite song!
If Gavin Newsome played the blues
Holy... even better than Clapton, eh?
Haha, don't know what to say! 😂
Wearing a suit and gentle hair
Play guitar good like that
So, this is every guitar man’s dream right?
Gentle hair? Haha, thanks Jack!
