I remember the Scotcheroos being sold at my elementary school bake sales in the late 1960's, early 70's. It was a small 1st through 8th school, so no hot lunch. Twice a month though, a few moms would make lunch for the school. One lunch would be spaghetti and then two weeks later the leftover spaghetti would be turned into chili, lol. On hot lunch weeks the moms would also host a bake sale at lunch and you could count on at least one batch of Scotcheroos. Yikes! This story makes me sound really old. đ
That doesnât make you sound old at all. Thanks so much for sharing that!! I would have loved to have been one of those moms!
1967 is now Vintage, LOL. I was laughing because I was born in 1957 and I guess I am Vintage!! That's okay Vintage is in!!! The recipes all look delicious, I am ready to whip up the Lasagna right now. Thank you!
I love when your personality shows while youâre cooking! It feels like Iâm sitting right in your kitchen cooking with you
Girl, the jarred garlic works just as well as mincing your own, I agree... I dont care what anyone says! Lol đ
Thank you for saying "this recipe isn't that old" because I was saying to myself, "wow, I was in the 7th grade in '67, I'm old". đ€ŁI'll be trying the lasagna and garlic knot recipes for sure! TFS đđ„°
And in 7th grade, thatâs just a baby!!
I love love love Scotcharoos!!!
Yes, I made Scotcheroos for my kids when they were little. They are so good and it brought back so many memories. Thanks for an awesome memory from years pastâ€
Church cookbooks are always the best-thanks for sharing đđ
The lasagna and garlic knots look so yummy! I never pre-cook my lasagna noodles (and hate those no-cook ones). If you're going to make it ahead anyway, just use the regular ones uncooked. I add about 1/2 c. extra water to my sauce (the noodles will absorb the excess). I prefer Ricotta but will use cottage cheese if I can't find Ricotta or if it is too expensive. I do the separate layers. Leave it in the fridge at least 6 hours, then take it out and let it come to room temperature before baking.
Thatâs exactly what I did. I popped it out of the fridge later in the afternoon and then baked it. It was perfect.
I met a woman at the grocery. She used the no boil lasagna. She places them in water for 30 minutes before she assembles it. I was skeptical like you... it was awesome. But yes.. you are correct, still needs extra sauce
I have a tip for lasagne. I really dont like the no cook lasagne noodles, but also dont want to have to boil. I just lay the noodles in my 10x13 pan and cover for half hour with warm water. Turns out perfect every time.
I dont like the no cook ones either. I will definitely try that!
I do that with the noodles as well.
Interesting! I gotta try that! Love from Texas â€
I love scotcharoos!! I make them all of the time!!
Scotcheroos are a Midwest staple. You'll find them at every family, church or friends gathering in the Midwest! YUM! The trick it not to mash them too hard into the pan. Just press them lightly!
Scotcharoos are a staple of the Midwest. Thinking of changing the recipe hurts my †a bit. Just cut them smaller. A couple bites is all you need. đ
Scotcheroos are extremely common in the Midwest!
I love the minced garlic in the jar toođ
Everything looked good, but the garlic knot idea was definitely my favorite! They look so delicious!đ
Yes Scotcheroos!!!! My mom made those all the time growing up. My kids love them too.
Wow! I was two years old in 1967!
I like jar garlic too! Itâs so convenient!
Hey Jennifer
I was 6 years old when the dessert recipe was written. Love vintage foods. Lasagna looked fabulous. I made a pan last night but yours looked even better.
Thanks for sharing! Everything looks so good! â€
Oh my⊠Iâm not sure how I found you BUT⊠Iâm so happy I did⊠I just started watching your videos and my list is ready to go shopping for all the groceries I need..đđ
Besides being darling you have some great EASY & FAST recipes!! Yummmm
Sending love and Sunshine from out west âïžđâïž
That lasagna looked really good. Those old recipes are great.
Girl you look so happy youâre practically glowing! I love these old fashioned recipes â€ïž
Amen on the minced jar of garlic!! Wanna try all of these very soon! Love all of your recipe videos â€
Because who has time to mince tiny little garlic cloves. I mean, every once in a while⊠but itâs on the bottom of my priority list.
My husband was born in 1967 so thatâs a really neat dessert. Iâm going to have to try on his birthday.
Scotcharoos are staple dessert that shows up at many Midwest potlucks and get-togethers! But, you are right that they are very sweet! Just cut the pieces small, lol.
Ok gonna make the lasagna and garlic knots. Thank you for these recipes and instructions.
I graduated high school in 1967! Gosh, that makes me feel old! I remember that dessert, but I never made it. Too sweet for me, and I love sweets!
I loved all of these recipes, on the garlic knots you can also go with a cinnamon and sugar mix instead of the garlic and Italian seasoning and have cinnamon knots very yummy for a pizza night dessert. On the Scotcharoos, I have made it with Cornflakes cereal using 7 cups instead and leaving the chocolate and butterscotch off. Very good and not as sweet. Thanks for sharing and bringing back good memories. â€
I was born in 67. So, Iâd love to try those again.
Going up in Iowa & the Midwest scotcharoos are a huge thing and so addictively good !!
Loving your video from England, UK.đ
I grew up on scotcharoos
Love your videos, love listening to you talk. Feels like I'm visiting an old friend. Not old like that though. đ
Hahaha Iâm so glad!! I love hanging out with yâall!
I LOVE ricotta cheese but where I live it is about twice the price of cottage cheese so 90% of the time I use cottage cheese. I have made lasagna with the separate layers and also with mixed layers. Both ways are yummy.
I feel the same! It was still very tasty!
We were married September 2, 1967. I smiled over the ticket date. And enjoyed watching you make the lasagna sauce pretty much as I have for years. Just seemed sweet. Nicely done!
Made the scotchroos love them
Everything looks so good I love the dessert and I see you painted your cabinets love them also
These looked so delicious!
As soon as you said "Don't even start!" I said this is my kind of cooking LOL. Everything looked delicious and amazing âĄâĄ
Awesome video thanks
Thank you! I have never heard of those yummy desserts! I enjoyed your video. Thank you!
Yum!
You always have yummy dishes and pretty easy. Thank you đđ
Jen they all looked so good.
Omg. Buiscuts...Couldn't use my oven so I made on stovetop. Put a lid and let brown on both sides. Then let it "bake" . Was so good .
Love all your recipes!! Love your channel and I love jar garlic!! Thanks for the video!! Canât wait to try the garlic knots!!
Everything looks Delicious! Canât wait to try them all this week â€ïžâ€ïž
Yum, yum, yumâŠlove lasagna! Your church recipes/dishes are always amazing! TFS, sweet friend! Xo â€
đ "I like jar garlic. If you don't, we don't care." đ€Łđ Hee! I've never bought a fresh clove of garlic. Ain't got no time for that. Jar for me! Also 1967 I was 9 yrs old and yeah, seems like most desserts included Karo Syrup and today seems way too sweet for us.
Love the recipe!! I make a Texas Lasagna you might like similar to this! Of course I am from Texas!! But I use McCormick thick & zesty Spaghetti sauce packet x2 for 2lbs of meat. Mix as directions on back minus the butter, just the mix, tomato paste and water. After you brown the meat add your sauce that's already been mixed in a sauce pan separately. Boil your Lasagna noodles. My bunch doesn't like cottage cheese or Ricotta cheese so instead I use a Shredded blend cheese on the layers. Then back about 25 minutes until cheese is melted. This is one of our favorites!!
This is a fun video!! Thanks so much!!
My Mom always made pasta sauce with tomato soup and tomato sauce. I do it now for a fraction of the cost of store bought pasta sauces, and so much better tasting . đ
Thatâs a great idea!
@@CookCleanAndRepeat We aren't fond of how bitter tomato paste typically is so we use a 15 ounce can of tomato sauce, and a 10 1/2 ounce can of tomato soup and about 1/4 can soup can of water. We always saute onions and bell pepper with ground beef and then add the sauce and our favorite spices. So yummy every time.
Thank you! I have never heard of scotcheroos before! And that ticket is so cool! Thank you! Good bless you!
This was a very popular recipe many years ago!! I made them quite often and they are very addictive, once u eat one, u just can't sto yourself! lol. We always called them scotcheroos.
I had a feeling someone would know what they were!!
đ I was married in October of 1965! Yes, that was a long time ago, but the years have passed very quickly! I am still happily married to my wonderful husband â€ïž Thanks for a recipe from the past. đ„°
Looks really good I m going to try to make one I love lasagna and this one looks amazing good đ
Delicious lookingđ
Hey Jen,They all looked so good,i miss making my famous lasagna!
That lasagna looked so good. Iâm trying it tonight! And those garlic knots seem amazing too. I may try that too!
I love Scotcheroos! My Nana used to make this exact recipe when I was little! Such great memories- thank you for sharing this recipe!
My mom made these but she didn't put the frosting on top and sometimes instead of Rice Krispies she would use Special K cereal.
Scotcheroos looks yummy! Thank you for sharing! â€ïž
Omg! My birthday is October 10th. Love the lasagna recipe and the garlic knots!! Will be trying!đ
Your videos always make my dayâ€
My best friend (in grade school), her mom, made THE BEST scotcheroos! They were and always will be a favorite!
What a nice memory!
,I always use Italian sausage for mine
â€â€â€ Love scotcharoos !
I love these church cookbook recipes and these three are definitely ones I will be making. I'm with you, I need to find something to substitute for Raos. I hope this is it, it certainly sounds good.
My mom made something similar to your dessert.
âą 1 cup granulated sugar
âą 1 cup light corn syrup
âą 1 cup creamy peanut butter
âą 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
âą 6 cups corn flakes
instructions
In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and peanut butter. Cook over medium high heat until center starts to boil, make sure to stir constantly so the sugar doesn't burn.
As soon as the sugar mixture comes to a boil, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and corn flakes, mix until corn flakes are evenly coated in sugar mixture.
Use an ice cream scoop to drop cookies onto parchment or wax paper as quickly as possible before mixture starts to cool and and harden.
Let cool on wax paper for 20 to 30 minutes before enjoying.
I found the easiest way to get tomato paste out of the can is the open both ends and push it through
I saw a TikTok on that! Iâm gonna try it next time
Jennifer I will definitely be making these recipes for my family !! I love the sauce mixture for the Lasagna. I personally don't like a chunky sauce either. I don't like tomatoes đ ....lol Thank you for another set of recipes and my loves the Garlic knots !!
Hi from Pretoria, South Africa đđ»ââïž and a BIG THANK YOU for these recipes. Seeing it's church recipes, do you maybe have the recipe for large number of people please?
We have what you call a potluck with every communion and I run out of recipes. We're always around 100-150 eating. Have a blessed day đ
Not going to lie to you, Iâve never cooked for that many. But this recipe feeds 8. So my advice would be to triple the recipe. And make 6 of the big pans for that many people!
@@CookCleanAndRepeat thank you very much. I'll try it and then with your dessert recipes as well. I battle with those. Always looking for something new and interesting. People on this side of the world are hungry people and they love dessert đ
You can google recipes to feed 100âŠthereâs lots of them. Hope this helps.
@@kellygreen8255 thank you very much đđ»ââïž
The lasagna looked delicious. Homemade sauce is so much better!
Great recipes! Great video! You're a doll! Love from Texas â€
I am making all of these recipes this weekend lol for our family dinner
Hope everyone enjoys!!
Dessert is also called Special K bars, when made with that type of cereal. In the Midwest these are at every sports game, bake sale, funeral... Common treat still!!
I prefer the garlic in the jar. I got tired of keeping the fresh and it would go bad and then I wouldnât have any for my recipe. I remember the Scotcharoos.
â€â€â€
Great video. I use the same Scotcharoo recipe but only use semi sweet chocolate chips, and not as much. It really cuts down on the sweetness. Pamela
Yummy!! Iâm definitely going to try it again with the chocolate cut down.
I've heard of people that don't like Cottage cheese in it to blend it and make it really creamy and then they like it.
That lasagna recipe is exactly what my mother made. Great recipes Jen 10/10
cool
Thank you for sharing have a blessed day stay safe and healthy. Yummy đâ€đâ€đđđđ
You too, Debbie!
I always use Ricotta.
Did you just call just call me vintage?? đđđź just teasing the cake looks amazing, itâs a good yearđ
It all looks so delicious. Excited to try the lasagna and garlic knots. I was wondering, what type of cookware do you use?im needing to get a new set. Thanks for all you share on your channels.
Knots looked good, lasagna too... I've made scotch a roos, like all this...I make the bars with a couple changes...
Hhmmmm good
I graduated high school in 1967-- it feels funny for that to be vintage, but I guess at 73--i am vintage!! Lol!
I love the way you talk! Your so funny & sweet!
Well thanks Lori!
Awesome Jen! Iâm going to try the krispies but without the butterscotch chipsâŠ. And made regular; not with Karo and sugar đł I think I remember them from the 70âs and 80âs đđ„°đ
Oh WOW đ€Łđł I was 1 yr old when that cook book was made, đ± OMG I'm feeling old just now đ Great DELISH Recipes Jennifer, I love cook books especially Church Cook books, some Awesome cook's share their favorite Recipes that are Dear to them and Sentimental to them, I thank them and you for sharing and for the Inspiration â€ïžđ
I did the Scotcheroos in Home Ec in the mid nineties. Donât remember how it was called here⊠and it had butter in it. I remember my class partner put all the butter provided ( we figured out later that it was not measured yet) and it was greasy! đ€Ł
Garlic knots looked yummy and easy. Going to bet someone says to you it isn't technically a "knot" though lol. I think calling them garlic nuggets would be cute... :)
Lol! The year I graduated high school!!
I fix rice crispy treats like this with dark chocolate. Have never tried with butterscotch.
I love dark chocolate!
Hey hey friend â€ïžâ€ïž I've not been getting notifications for your videos....silly youtube â€ïžâ€ïž I definitely have to play catch up đ„°đ„°
