AVB's stint managing Porto is one of of my favorites. As a Colombian he of course really gave us a boost, regularly playing Falcao, James and Guarin. But beyond that he turned that Porto into a real beast. Their matches in Europe were always fun to watch
Meanwhile we're just waiting for the next big player from Colombia, it's almost mandatory for us to have a Colombian player to have a good season, after Falcão, James and Guarin came Jackson Martinez and more recently Uribe and the GOAT Luís Diaz. There were others but those stood out the most and hopefully now AVB will sign another Colombian wonder kid, preferably a CD since we're short on those and it's about the only position we haven't had a Colombian player.

I'm 44 and i've see many different Porto squads through the years, and I still think AVB Porto was the one playing the most beautiful football. Notice: i don't mean it was the strongest squad we ever had, i just think it was the squad that played the most beautiful.
This video mentions something that i also noticed: The AVB sitting in Chelsea bench or Zenit or Marseille bench, wasn't the same man sitting at FC Porto bench. Even his face in the bench was completely different, in Porto you could see a man obsessed, fully commited, focused, filled with passion... But the one at Chelsea (and the others) simply wasn't the same man, he looked kind of bored, indifferent... He was too much of a "Portista", and probably that was both his strenght and weakness to be a coach of One or others clubs.

As a Marseillais, I was happy to see him being coach of my coach. However, his relationship with the board was bad and that's why he ended up leaving. To be fair, fans were also tired of the board and a few months after Villas Boas left, we had a new president. The best since Diouf in 2005-09.
I wish him well as a president. It will not be easy at Porto but he's in love with this club. It will help him a lot.

I always found it ironic that at Chelsea he tried so hard to be like Mourinho & just came off like a naïve, insecure prodigy on a power trip. At Marseille I got the impression he'd given up trying to impress people, but that don't give af attitude he was carrying did make him came across quite like Mourinho at times lol

Bro , I remember watching rangers play Lyon in the champions league , I think it was the 2007/08 season .. we were the group of death for sure that year .. Barcelona (la liga champs) Lyon (ligue 1 champs) stuttgart (bundesliga champs) and rangers (Scottish champs) … anyway we beat Lyon 3-0 in France but in that game Juninho hit the bar with a free kick from about 45 yards out and i swear the sound of it hitting the bar sounded like a cannon being fired
@JamesBeattie-lz9cc exactly.. i haven't seen a better free kick taker than Juninho.. he took it with as much ease as anybody else did a penalty kick.. the distance to goal post didn't matter to him..

As a Chelsea fan, I never understood why we didn't play well under him, but saw recently a John Terry Interview, and it explains a lot, simply put if there was better communication between him and the players and if they had gelled around him maybe things would've panned out differently, but silver lining was we won our first UCL that year, under di Matteo

@@hugomota3696 he said AVB tried to show that he was the boss from day one and it backfired with the top players rebelling against him including Terry. he told the story of how they were going to fly to the USA for pre-season and AVB made the older and elite players fly in commercial class and the youngster's 1st class. the elite players refused to fly commercial and AVB had to agree to switch them back to 1st class. and Terry admitted since that incident the elite players forced him out of the club

i remember arriving at porto after the spartak game. got into the metro full with russians. As soon as I get in I look around and started to laugh because everyone was feeling awkward. The russians laughed it out too :D simpler times i guess
