    You make this easy. I’m 61 avid baseball fan but since metrics have taken off since, well let’s say Money Ball, I’m clueless kidding myself only knowing that a pitchers WHIP is good under or around 1. That being said you do an amazing job.

    This is an excellent set of videos. Thank you. Is there a resource I can go to that guides on what a current average or good era is, or a current average or good Ops+ is? It then makes it a lot easier to compare players during a game (and when I’m playing ‘Out of the Park’ baseball).

    Question, when you say a run scored on an error dose that mean the last play that resulted in a base run scored because of an error is not counted or is it at any point a runner is on base that an error occurred for it to not count against a pitchers era, drop third strike, fielding error, missed throw, passed ball. Also if two runners get on base because of an error and they both steal a base so its man on third and second and the batter hits a ground role double and forces a runner in, does that run count against the pitchers era

    Baseball is so confusing to me, but let me ask like this...is a pitcher having something like 28-3 record, 2.07 era, 9 complete games, 200+ Ks with a no-hitter thrown in for good measure a possibility? Like, are those numbers viable?

    • @AshleyMacLennan90feetfromhome
      @AshleyMacLennan90feetfromhome  Před 4 lety +4

      In a single season, I'm assuming? Not OUT of the question. 28 wins would be very, very high, 20-21 is pretty standard these days for Cy Young worthiness. A 2.07 ERA would fall in line with that many wins. 9 complete games would be VERY high as most starting pitchers are pulled around the 7th or 8th inning just to preserve their arms. A no-hitter is a solidly rare feat, but really nothing you're describing is IMPOSSIBLE in a season. It would just be a DAMN GOOD season, that pitcher would likely win both the league Cy Young AND the league MVP.

    • @dkroll92
      @dkroll92 Před 4 lety +1

      it's happened before but would be a historically rare and impressive season. There hasn't been a pitcher to win that many games in decades, however, due to the way the game is played now versus in the past

    • @gunslingingbird74
      @gunslingingbird74 Před 3 lety +1

      To get those kinds of stats, your name would likely have to be Cy Young.

    Good stuff but you know they have to give kids nowadays as much as they can, I.e., show up trophies, etc., or they don’t do good, thus ERA plus, etc.

    What happens if a pitcher has two or more unfinished innings? Is it a .3 and .4 or carried on as if they have completed another innings?

    • @AshleyMacLennan90feetfromhome
      @AshleyMacLennan90feetfromhome  Před 4 lety +2

      Hey Bobby, I'm assuming if you mean a pitcher comes in to finish one inning then starts the next, but doesn't finish it? Each out only counts as 1/3 of an inning, so if a pitcher gets one out in an inning, then 2 the next, it's considered just one complete inning. If he gets one out to finish an inning, then one out the next inning, and is pulled, he has pitched 2/3 or .2 innings.

    • @gunslingingbird74
      @gunslingingbird74 Před 3 lety +1

      @@AshleyMacLennan90feetfromhome Along those lines, you left out when someone throws "6+" innings. For those not familiar with it, that means that the pitcher throws 6 complete innings, comes back in for the 7th inning, but gets pulled from the game before an out is recorded.

    i've always wondered: i knew a very athletic guy who invested, pretty much, his whole life into baseball. he, apparently, was very good. BUT, supposedly, the majors refused him because he was, "not fast enough," (i guess regarding when running to bases). now, if one can be denied for this reason, how come i see big fat dudes playing in the majors? i've seen these bug guys half running over bases many times in the majors. so are these individuals extremely talented in other areas and it's making up for their slowness or wtf is going on here? can you be slow and get into the majors as a batter?

    • @dylanherron6262
      @dylanherron6262 Před 3 lety

    How do you read 6-2 is a sentence like "In 26 games ... [Armbruester] went 6-2 with a 3.85 ERA"? As "six two"? "six and two"? "six for two"? ... (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_Orioles_minor_league_players#:~:text=Over%2026%20games%20(22%20starts,Norfolk%20Tides%20in%20mid%2DJune.)
