"oh, my memories are coming back in ways I wasn't ready for" is such a pretty and relatable line. I really like this one.
What's weird is that I'm not sure if it is a relatable song about memories and how everything drifts into the future or just a load of words threw in a bucket and rattled around until it forms something that seems like it should make sense.
The human brain (and actually, computers too) can't pick out truly random words, it has to take it from somewhere, so I think what Bill's doing is just writing thoughts but not fixing them so it makes sense to hear.
@@mullafacation yeah I get what you mean. It's like a rorschach test but with words instead of ink blots.
I just like this line though because the day I commented, my local government workers cut the grass in front of the house I just moved into and the smell of cut grass on a hot day gave me some really specific nostalgic memories of my childhood. Smell has a funny way of surprising you with memories you weren't ready for
He did say that the words and phrases were carefully chosen, I kinda got a story from the song.
It sounds like a description for terminal lucidity or ptsd to be honest but this song still slaps
"Travel the distance in between where I was and where I would like to be a little later" hit me most.
this song has made me cry, and i mean that in the best way possible. ive had to be a caretaker to almost all my grandparents, who all had gotten dementia before they died. and while they were not to the point of forgetting their place in time fully, this song, makes me think of someone with dementia singing about their experiences. how time flows for them, and how they see the world and people they interact with.
i know bill's songs are vague, probably on purpose, but i cant get over how much this fits people who cant keep track of reality anymore. a soft song despite losing the ground under your feet is something so powerful, and comforting.
I had a friend at after school and one day he sang this song. Then he left. Then i moved school. I haven’t seen him for a year. And this song makes me cry as well, ( I’m sorry for your loss it must have been a tough time i hope you feel better now 👍)

I don't comment stuff like this often but this is honestly a beautiful little story. I feel for you, and I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm so glad you find such a peaceful way to envision this song and experience.
Plus reading this comment while the beautiful hook (and any part of the song) just makes it feel a lot idk deeper?
TWO uploads within a month of one another? What have we done to deserve such a blessing?
I mean, "i'm a princess" and "got some money" were also uploaded within a month of each other.
he's attempting a 3-week schedule, and going back to the minimalistic-ish video style of "got some money" in order to make this possible! he's been desperately trying to tame his perfectionism and go back on a regular schedule for so long, so i'm happy it seems to be working out for him this time! lest appreciate how amazing this man and his songs are.
His songs make absolutely no sense whatsoever and how he goes from talking about sandals to flying or his arms being too tired to conversate but they are still so epic and he 100% deserves an oscar.
Taking sandals off is a metaphor for being carefree. His arms are tired because he is literally "flying around". The lyrics make sense, as they usually do. Not that hard to figure out

You take that back. If you don't think this makes sense then I'm not sure you're really enjoying what time it is.
He tells you RIGHT IN THE SONG that the sky is larger than a sky can be. Of course his arms would be tired while conversing after flying around without special sandles on the earth.
@@perhapsxarb7226 Bill Wurtz stated that his songs don't really have a meaning and that viewers should interpret that meaning for themselves. Some people see the lyrics as complete nonsense, some view it as poetic and perfectly normal.

"i walked on earth in special sandals. then i took them off and now i can fly around...i watched those sandals fly away and i didnt notice when they hit the ground "; an homage to the cynic/buddist philosophy that true freedom is achieved once soul is detached from all earthly pleasures.
"some people ask why the sun is not very bright. my arms are too tired for this conversation."; blatantly faulty arguments are not worth fighting
"my calendar is telling me that its the future"; measurement of past and future are just human concepts and shouldnt fixated on. never wait till the future to be happy because it will always be the present and never the future. so let the future be now
"there are characters in the second scene and they never talk but you know exactly what they mean"; there are so many people who you will see but never truly know or meet
"somewhere in the 7th scene when noone understands the point of view you find so familiar"; there are so many people outside your immediate social bubble that will subvert your worldview
"oh! my memories are coming back in ways i wasnt ready for. but im still enjoying how it feels. so im holding onto the details. capture the details. in a series of carefully chosen words and phrases and then replay it"; literally him having an existential epiphany and writing it into his lyrics so he can revisit the headspace later
"and know exactly what the story will be...and pretend to know exactly how the story will end"; finding contentment with never knowing the answer to what will happen after death

Why isn’t it?
It's heartwarming to me, for some reason~
@@Srcsqwrn me too, you know the reason, you just can't easily explain it with words
Nonsense. They are not usually simple at all, and any comedy is only an element of some parts of the songs because it's part of the human experience. Hell as far as the "simplicity" goes I bet you wouldn't even be able to figure out the chords to any of his songs, even ones without modulation. After you've tried that, try sitting down and writing a melody with fitting lyrics that's half as good as any of his songs. It's insulting to call his stuff anything other than musical genius and genuine expression. This one is heartwarming, why the heck would you say it feels heartwarming and then say it isn't? How it feels is what it is, that's what art is. Maybe most people don't recognize his music as what it is because any time there's anything in a song other than "I'm in love" or "I'm heartbroken" it just seems quirky and strange
2:16 - 2:26, “so I’m holding on to the details, capture this moment in a series of carefully chosen words and phrases”
Unironically, I love this line. Its meta and self referential, and it’s so artistic and unique in that way. Also I write music so I’m like “heh, I do that!” Anyway, reality is a simulation have a good day

*czcams.com/video/BrH9f-IWwlo/video.html*
Exactly yes.
Honestly, all I don't exactly understand is 1:28 the rest can be seen as a memory (being the beginning of the song) slowly deteriorating as time passes, first it's clear, then in the first chorus, the 'future' represents your future self recalling the memory, second verse I have no clue how it fits into everything, in the second chorus, the '7th scene' is you retelling the story, hence why the point of view is unclear to them, as this could've happened years ago and many details could've been forgotten, regardless, you write down what you can remember and read through it to reexperience the memory, however this time, instead of you flying around, the sandals fly around. And as even more time passes, the memory fades more and more to the point where you convince yourself you remember the story clearly, when in reality all you know for sure is that you 'traveled the ___, jumped over the ___, into the ___, back to the___'
@@cheesecraft789 I think the blanket is referring to a "safety blanket", that sort of feeling where you only do things you would do at home but in a different place which I find is intrinsically related to thinking things completely through. In other words, if he traveled thinking closely about all his actions, he probably wouldn't have nearly as much fun as just being there. This also means that what he does during that time is harder to remember cause he was just living in the moment.
Without his blanket holding him down, he can "fly around"
edit: I feel like I explained this badly, if so pls say so and I can reword it

well now I wanna know what you think the moral of this one is
MacaronAndCheese the sky is larger than any sky can be
I think this one is about reflecting on the passage of time and grappling with the fact that you once had a future life visualized in your head that you now have to compare to where your path has really taken you. In the end of the song he comes to terms with it while still accepting he doesn't quite understand what to think about the feelings it's causing him, and acknowledging that he'll still create these expectations for his future even though he'll never truly know exactly how the story will end.@@macaronandcheese1811

I took those sandals off
Now I can fly around

The sky is falling
The sky is larger

Somewhere in the seventh scene
Where no one understands the point of view
That you now find so familiar

I kick those sandals off and watch them fly around
I didn't notice if they ever landed

he's had his style since the beginning, he did something unique and found his niche
There aren't very many artists that do this. I'm a metalhead at heart (though I love all music), but it's sorta the difference between Nickleback and System of a Down. They both have very unique styles that are instantly recognizable but System is far superior because their songs are also distinct within their style. @@kaphizmey6229 Yes you are right they Gotta touch some Grass real quick
@fine go touch grass
Or uranium
Yeah, same. Love his feel-good style.
Chaotic good
I was just vibing, happy I could actually follow a Bill Wurtz song for once, and then 2:49 comes out of no where and clocks me with a Music Theory textbook
His voice is like hearing a cuddle, it's always so nice to hear him
for some reason this song sends chills down my spine every time i finish listening to it and to be honest i love it
He's getting like transcendentally good at what he does. That key shift fucked me up
This bops more than any song has. It's calm, it's confusing, and it's just good. I usually use this rating as a joke, but seriously, 11/10.
Edit: Aperently the replies think I am saying I watched the entire video by the time I made this comment and I'm commenting for likes, but I'm not. I just liked the song and I was at the part where it was calm which is about 3/4ths into the song. Saying this again, I just like the song, okay?
You couldn't even have watched it completely by the time u posted the comment, u just want likes :)
@@DavidIRL9 I watched around 3/4ths of the song by then. I could tell by the first fourth.
@@DavidIRL9 they watched 2 minutes
@@DavidIRL9 best to give the video at least 24 hours before going to the comments of a popular CZcamsr, so most of the spam bots are taken down and the likes are given to true comments instead of the ones made for likes.
can't wait for this to be added to streaming platforms
"My arms are too tired for this conversation" is my new favorite excuse.
This song is just: *Borderline Nonsense until the chorus*
“Oo Ah Oh Ee
My calendar is telling me it’s the future.”
Shit man, it sure is.
“Somewhere there’s a second scene,
With characters that never speak,
But you still know exactly what they mean.”
*Fighting back tears* Fuck, yeah man I guess there really is.
Just tonal whiplash, I love it.
Bill Wurtz kind of embodies the feeling of jazz.
Like not just in the music but also in the visuals and lyrics. It’s like a flowing stream of consciousness, not always making sense, seemingly improvised and going wherever he wants.
Stream of consciousness is a very interesting way to write music!
Absolutely, just unrestrained abstraction
READ MY NAME!!!!!!
!!!!!
I kept waiting for the trademark dissonance and jarring vibes, and it never quite came - everything was harmonic, relaxed - except for that *brief* mention of the future near the end that leaves a faint note of ‘hmmm.’ I had no idea how much I would love bill wurtz music that isn’t existential nightmare. it’s so… so nice. I love this.
@fine that was not nice. I'm a Cristain. and I'm mad...
@@NikkiDrawsStuff im sorry, what are you mad about, and whats not nice? also, this is a youtube comment section, so nobody cares about being nice
@@NikkiDrawsStuff “Cristain”🤣 you mean Christian???? Lmaoooo
Well said! That's why it felt so especially nice with its cheerfulness!
Yeah, the melody always resolves, but I like how the lyrics don't resolve at the end.
the way bill blended his signature 2D animation with what he's learned about 3D animation is just... genius tbh
This song for whatever reason gives me unexplainable emotions
Bill's music is so different from mainstream or really any genre it's calming in a strange way. It looks like random mumbo jumbo but feels deep
Arlo parks is a bit like this
@@itshitime similar in terms of vocal delivery, mellow composition or something else?
@monosone rone lyrically and the way it delivered
if it's making you feel things, then i have to ask..... in what world are feelings random mumbo jumbo?
Bill Wurtz IS it's own genre
This is the kind of music that I love but glad that it’s only one person doing. It adds charm to it that only he can achieve.
Everytime I listen to this I feel like I have to sing along to the chorus. That "OO AA OH EE" is so catchy
"somewhere there's a second scene with characters that never speak but you still know exactly what they mean" Wow I I love this song
This was incredibly comforting, without there being any structure to the words. It just... It really helped me relax after feeling so sad
Same here bro. Bill never takes himself too seriously and neither should we.
Same, I was feeling incredibly down when this song released and it really struck me emotionally, I almost cried.
@time that video is bad, and you should feel bad
guys. he is actually saying more than we know. bill is a genius. all the things you think are meaningless are metaphors
I love all of Bill's songs but the lyrics of this one hit me particularly hard. He has such a talent for describing a daydream in a way that makes you emotional
This song feels strangely nostalgic for some reason
Agreed
This is like abstract art in music form.
These songs are like something you hear in your dreams that makes perfect sense while asleep, but make no sense at all when you wake up and actually think about it.
Much needed dose of music in these trying times.
Yeah it's so chill
@ТоммуIппit 🅥 shusheth
I know, right?
Agreed
oh my god how many bots are there
Screw famous singers and animators. I love this man's videos.
"Oh, my memories are coming back in ways I wasn't ready for". This is deep stuff, bruh.
