This guy is the coolest. Totally honest and open about his addiction. So great he got help and has it under control! Plus-he’s funny as heck.
My addictions to drugs, alcohol & girls were identical to Chris. You constantly repeat the same behaviors, often despite escalating negative consequences, in search of some relief of your pain. It wasn’t until I got sober that I learned my compulsive behaviors brought on my pain instead of relieving it.
All hedonists eventually learn the pursuit of pleasure leads to ruin & despair, while the pursuit of discipline leads to TRUE freedom.
It's weird how mastering control of yourself is the real path, it's kind of the opposite of what most people are taught. Not that I'm as disciplined as I want to be, but I have made headway and what he and you are saying is absolutely true in that discipline is freedom. Very odd facet of life.
