Well witnessed a real life miracle that gave him his wife back and ended her suffering I'm not surprised he was respectful he even offered to repay that debt when he gets called in after Percy shoots Wild Bill he tells Paul he will cover for them even if it means his job. I actually think the warden would have let them free John had John not chose to die.
In the novel, it's mentioned that whenever John was about to heal, those around him had a compulsion to obey him. Notice how Hal was in a trance until John walked past, him then he seemed to awaken and try to stop him...then John says simply: 'you be quiet, boss'. And he doesn't say another word until after his wife is healed.

An interesting thing about this movie is that James Cromwell is actually taller than Michael Clarke Duncan in real life, James Cromwell is 6’7 and Michael Clarke Duncan was 6’5. It really goes to show what technique can do to make someone appear much taller than they are.
Everyone usually praises Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan, Sam Rockwell, etc. (who were all amazing), but not enough praise goes to James Cromwell for his performance in this film. He’s probably one of the most underrated actors, IMO, dudes got some serious acting chops!
The casting and performances in this film were absolutely top notch. Even down to those with the lesser roles, Gary Sinise, Eve Brent, Dabbs Greer, Harry Dean Stanton, Patricia Clarkson...all of them gave great performances. It still gets me mad that it didn't win an Oscar.
John performed three of the miracles Christ did....healing the sick. (Paul), Raising the dead (Mr Jingles) casting out demons (Melinda Moores, 'possessed' by the demon that is cancer)
Was hoping someone could help. I've listened to the soundtrack for this movie, but I didn't hear the music from this particular scene. Did I just miss something?
one thing that really baffles me about this movie is why didnt the warden help John after John saves his wife's life! The only person that stuck up for him in a pretty useless way was Paul!
I'm sure the warden wanted to help save John. But his hands are tied he can't just defy the state justice department when they order an execution. And if he lets John escape then not only will the state send out hunting parties, that would without a doubt use lethal force. But the warden and all the guards would be arrested and tried for aiding and embedding a known criminal.
Another factor not mentioned is that the Warden still thought John was guilty. It discusses it more in the book, but Hal was torn that God would put that kind of power into a man who killed children. The only person who really knows John is telling the truth is Paul.
At the end of this clip, Hal clearly had some degree of respect for John through how much he trusts Paul and his team.

Hal can see it in his eyes that John can help. And the way John gently lifts the shotgun out of his hands and passes it to Paul is unreal.

Whoever played Melinda did a fantastic job. Her performance brings tears to my eyes.
Patricia Clarkson. Excellent Actress.
Sir Michael Clarke Duncan. Xxx
Nominated for an academy award, Duncan should have won.
I get so emotional hearing her crying out.

Really? This was done by special effects? It looks so real
@@eleonoravostanis6976 it was done using a technique called blocking
@@eleonoravostanis6976 they just had Clarke Duncan walk on a block that was about 6 inches tall and it helped him appear taller than usual
@@eleonoravostanis6976 It was probably done by just having Duncan standing on blocks

I edited the clip for a film class when I was a junior in high school
John knew someone was up, the wife in pain. He turned and stood up when he saw the pain and felt it

Because a warden had no influence to stop the execution.

John refused to be released
