Leave it to us Americans to turn even the simplest of holidays like Thanksgiving into something...a little strange. Here are some of the antics Americans get up to on MY favorite holiday, Thanksgiving.
The video is Czech, but it has English subtitles, just for you!
These American traditions didn't seem weird in America, but looking from an outside perspective, they are pretty strange. Have you ever celebrated Thanksgiving with Americans? Tasted Turkducken or gone turkey bowling?
lol keep going ull be unnotticeable after a while, like, decade
I havent tried anything mentioned above :( (Nic z výše uvedeného jsem nezkoušel)
I think that the "turkey - bowling" is a bit weird.. Also, I understand that everyone likes discounts, on the other hand, I think that people have better things to do than being stuck in front of a big mall for many hours so that I can get my favourite TV-set with 50% discount..
Hi Jen, the Old Quibbler at you service! ;) I never celebrated Thanksgivinig and even thought I had no peculiar expectations on "weird traditions" you still managed to surprice me anyway...! :D My cousin who lived in Colorado told me only one thing about it - that Americans (who have houses) have got overhypertuned kitchens with huge ovens to cook turkeys on Thanksgiving - and then they still do not cook in it but buy meals from the street or restaurants...
The particular traditions you mentioned seemed a little brutal to me.From the outside view, playing turkey bowling Is sickening And for people who Are sick in the head.
Prezident Třamp 😄 Jen, obdivuji vaši češtinu a oceňuji vaši snahu mluvit naším jazykem 👏👍👍👍
Třamp byl roztomilej
Tak my to zas neumíme pořádně vyslovit jejím jazykem :)
Moc Vám fandím a obdivuji Vaši znalost češtiny.
Not bad, not bad. You're getting quite better I must admit.
Jé tvoje čeština je čím dál tím lepší!
1:58 krutý maso jsem ještě nejedl :)
I loved the bit about pardoning the turkey. That was hilarious.
We arrived in US 40 years ago just before Thanksgiving. Our English teacher explained Thanksgiving to us this way, we eat, then we eat some more, and then we watch football, then we eat again. Over the years Thanksgiving became my favorite holiday. We have turned it into a great tradition of getting together with some good friends.
It really is a simple holiday! I’m glad you enjoy it. Happy thanksgiving!
@@DreamPrague Thank you, you do the same. We had to cancel our get together this year for obvious reasons, and because there will be only two of us, we have chosen a smaller bird, we will roasting a duck. It will kind of make it more of a Czecho - American Thanksgiving.
wow turkey bowling in a supermarket? what.. how... WHY? :D
S mraženým jídlem se v supermarketu dějou i podivnější věci. Třeba inventura :). To někdo vezme několik velkých nákupních košíků, co jsou čistota sama, a všechno mražené do nich přehází, pak to přehází zpátky a košíky mrskne zpět.
Well, this tradition is very... Interesting! 👍🏻
Jen, jsi tak půvabná! A Tvůj půvab letí o 200% nahoru, když se směješ 😉👍🏻😘
😱💕😁
Great job Jen! You're already czech 😊 one of us.
Super práce 😊
I am impressed by your Czech, well done! 👍👍👍 Also, thank you for your help for the kids with HAE. I have never heard of this disease before. Raising awareness is a good thing.
Thank you Josephine!
Jen, great movie again. Don't worry about your czech. It's perfectly understandable. You know I was always courious how it is for people in Germany or UK/USA listening me to speak german / english ... this is great feed back in fact. The main message is, it absolutely does not matter the grammer mistakes, because much more important is, you're saying exactly what you like to say a we perfectly understand ... That's just great. It only can be better. So don't stop, it's very nice to listen to you in czech.
That’s lovely. Thank you for the encouragement!
@@DreamPrague I learnt English 2x 4 year in primary school and than again in grammer school and I was not able to speak at all. I probably knew and remember all the grammer, but could not speak. Because whatever I tried to say was just not correct and teachers started to complain whenever I opened my mouth. So the reaction is to speak as simple as possible to avoid any mistake. Or just not speak at all.
Then I started to learn German and because revolution at 1989 occurred I could for the first time see my uncle in Germany. My german was very very poor, but I just liked and needed to have a communication. So zilion mistakes but we were able to understand each other in some way ... that was the lesson. If you would wait for perfection, then you'll never speak.
And you are far far further in CZ from my first meet with my uncle :)
RIK mám stejnou zkušenost.
football? Oh, you mean armored rugby..... :-D :-D :-D
It's HandEgg :-D
Veru. A u vás je to kopaná, či nie? :-)

Should have called it americaan rugby.
The only Czech videos I watch are yours 😂
Wow, Jen, your Czech is getting so much better! Perfect! Have a beautiful day:)
Jen, you are amazing😊
Your Czech is really improving, soon you'll sound just like a native 😀BTW. Is that luxurious farm in Virginia the same farm upstate where my pet hamster went or a real one? 😅
Amazing “Ř”👍 Thanks😉
Let's face it - she doesn't sound like a native. I also will never sound like a native american speaker. But her vocabulary is quite impressive, her pronunciation had vastly improved and over all, she's one of us! :-)
Mluvíš moc dobře 👌
Jsme divny. Love your videos
😏 hehehe
Palec nahoru za tu cestinu. Hodne jsi se zlepsila. Big progress in Czech language. It seems that you are not so afraid to speak.
Jane you’re so funny 🤣 thank you for the video
Excellent Czech, keep improving!😎👍
Super.
A zábavné, řekl bych. Teda až na ty ušlapané a zastřelené ...
The fundraiser has almost doubled the goal and you're getting close to 200 donors! That's wonderful!
On the topic of Thanksgiving, an American friend of mine just travelled from Nashville to Alaska to visit family. I didn't think about it but now I understand the context.
Wow I really appreciate your passion to learn czech language. It’s like one of the most diffucult languages to learn and most of czech people cannot speak it properly. I love your videos and it helps me with my maturita topics. Thank you so much. You are awesome. ❤️
Very good video... your czech is really great, congratulations !!!
Vase videa jsou zajimave. Zdravim z Londyna
Miluji tvoje videa. I love you.🙂
Great idea to make czech videos (for which there are english subtitles) :) I'm a german who currently started working in Prague and looking for everything I can use to learn czech! Looking forward for more videos of you, speaking czech. Great job!! :D
Thanks Philipp! Glad you enjoyed!
Hi Jen, ur czech is amazing. I like your proper R with a hook above (im writting on english keybord). Keep doing the videos. It s great to see how u see it and also it reminds me what is common for me in CZ.
Česky je to video o hodně lepší, takové sympatičtější.
Hi Jen, nowadays there is nothing strange. I like your channel and I'm always looking forward to with what new you will come up 😉
Jinak umíš to i hezky česky 👏Jsi prostě jednička
perfektni video moc zabavne , velka sranda dik
Wonderful, and your Czech is great. Dik.
Happy Thanksgiving Jen. You Czech is getting better and better, esp. in "skloňování" and "časování"
Yes!! I’ve been working on skloňování this month! 😊 thank you!
Super.
Hi Jennifer,
americans are weird !
You are an exception and you are normal.
I am very glad that you have chosen the
Czech Republic,Praque,where you want
to live.
You belong here and not in that strange world.
Good luck
Ahoj Jen.
Amazing video! ;-)
Dávám veliký LIKE.
To pečete takovou drůbeží Bábušku :)
Great video as always, Jen! I'm so glad some stores like Walmart have finally decided to close on Thursday. I remember back in 2017, they started Black Friday on Thursday at 6 PM, before most people even started on their Thanksgiving dinner... I was there a few hours before that for last-minute veggies for side dishes, and I kid you not, people were already hiding the items in sale in different aisles so they didn't have to fight for them once the door opened. Though, with the crazy 60% - 80% off deals, it's no wonder. Over here, meanwhile, our shops just love to inflate the prices during the summer so they can give you a 40% "discount" in November for a couple days.
Hey Jen, just a little helper there, at 2:27 - go for "ze zoo". Your videos are all funny and informative, stick with it. Jenda
:-D Vehementně je doplnili The Middle. :)
So the pardoned turkey left to live happily on a farm...I heard that one before. :D
You know, that the meat wealthy cared is more tender than stressed one?
XD Awesome
Ta tradice s osvobozením (omilostněním) jednoho krocana z desítek milionů mě také přijde prapodivná;)
It's nice to hear you speaking Czech. I was a teacher over there 30 years ago and have been back twice since. I love it so much and think about returning there to retire once the pandemic passes and things smooth out politically. Are you still helping people relocate over there? Diky!
Jsi dobrá :)
Zatím asi bezkonkurenčně nejkvalitnější video od Vás. (edit)
Moc hezky mluvíte česky. ;-)
1:42 Listening to the news this morning I can't believe you were so right on this 😂
:-D pěkné a zábavné video
1:43 😂spot on
Edit: Whole video, spot on
After knowing about the turkey bowling I think that our Ježíšek is not that big bizzare..:D
Totally!
Jen, Jani, mluv cesky vice )) D1 me odrovnalav tvem podani.
Whoo, Jen stepping up her uploading game. :-) Exciting!
I am glad to see a video in Czech again. I wanna try tradition number two!!
Some of these are really new and surprising to me. Thanks for educating us. :-)
Two mistakes I noticed if you'd like to check:
"se skutečnými zvířaty ze zoo" is correct (zoo is pronunced zo-o)
"jedna paní" is correct, nt "jeden paní"
The minute I edited myself, I heard “Jeden paní” and I cringed!! Hopefully better next time. Thanks for watching!
@@DreamPrague learning through making mistakes :-)
Hi Jennifer
Když jsme řekli fried carp and potatoe salat byli Američané velmi usměvaví.
I really hate one thing. In Czechia, many of shops with electronics also got the idea of Black Friday. But they have black friday all the month, because nobody would get up at 4am
A oslava sklizně v Česku? Logicky dožínky. Snad nás Jen rozhodne.
Posvícení je jiný svátek, viz Wikipedia.
@@abirwait5636 Je to oslava bohaté úrody, tedy dožínky.
I have started to watch your videos last week and the way you do it is really entertaining :) I have learnt a few languages in my life and I know it is difficult. Especially to start to speak actively. I really admire how you learned Czech, it is so nice to listen to it. It is incomparably more difficult for speakers of western languages to learn a slavic language than the other way round. You have become a Czech :)
Now you can be a unique English teacher because you know how to translate many things which are possible to translate only for people who experienced reality of English speaking countries and the Czech Republic. For examole I have finally learnt from your videos how to translate “zivnostnik”. German or French contain this particular word but I have never found a proper translation in an English dictionary. I asked English people but they didnt know exactly because the law is different. We always ended up with the word “businessman” or “person running own business”. But its not the exact translation. A businessman can own a limited company and this isnt zivnostnik. So now I know from you it is an independent contractor. This is just one example but there are many more...
I am looking forward to watching your videos so I can learn more English :)
Dobry vecer Miroslave!
After reading your interesting comment I would like to mention, that the description/translation of "zivnostnik" in british English is selfemployed! Many american words differ completely from british English. I am Czech /Brit and decided to "study" the differences of the two nations. Ist's fun and I learn a lot on CZcams. Being at home In this Corona pandemic time anyway, it is time well spent.
Vsechno dobre, hlavne zdravi Vam
preje Daniela
PS Jen je velmi sypmpaticka a moc nadana! Miluji jeji Videa❤️
Daniela Hoti thank you :) is it the same thing - a person who pays health and social security insurance for themselves and can issue invoices for various services ?
@@jahodamiro Hi, yes, they are the same. Zivnostnik/ tradesman napr.neni podnikatel, ktery ma svoji firmu.
Mel bys navrh? :)
Independent contractor is one alternative description for a self-employed person, but this may still mean that the person is 'incorporated' as a business. Sole proprietor declares his/her business proceeds as an individual, not as a corporation or an LLC (Limited Liability Company, or Spol. s r. o. - eserocko)
@@paulselinger6658 Thank you, for your reply. Still, living in Germany, I did come across this form, when someone is selfemployed and gets hired as a subcontractor by an other company. Well, it is all very complex.
Hey Jennifer. I love your videos ❤ I would really love to have a chat with you. I'm currently on maternity leave taking care of my 8 month old son and I really miss talking in English to someone. Greetings from Slovakia ❤🍀👋
Holka máš to hezky rozjetý
Tip k turk-duck-en: když si kuře, kachnu a krůtu vykostíte, můžete z masa připravit roládu a teoreticky přidat ještě pár vrstev, např. rybu a hovězí :))
2:50 takže o tom je Macy's day parade od Green Day! Díky
I'm totally impressed with your Czech and especially with your Ř!
You need to realise that: "Darovanému koni se na zuby nekouká." and stop displaying your ignorance in regard how soaked with propaganda you are that you would question even getting pardoned by someone you are conditioned to hate.

so it's brutal. when I was little, I malted the series Friends. There was always Thanksgiving and as Monika prepared the feast I wanted to be there, but as I listened to the truth, it would probably be quite brutal for us Czechs.
You probably meant you watched the series. "Malt" means "sladovat", not "sledovat". Just a friendly tip :)
@@MarvinCZ Funny, I was scratching my head where 'malted' came from. 'Sladovat' suggests a good Czecho-Slovak mix-up.
aw you showed a grocery store from my home town i the turkey bowling but i never heard of that. truthfully i do not celebrate this holiday and i think it sucks! hahah. i'm scared now hearing of all the people traveling ://
Maybe you will be disapointed but American definitely didn´t found out putting a duck into a turkey. If you take a mediaval cookery book you wil find somethin what is starting with bull or a pig and ending with a nightingale inside (and anything between) - something like a Russian toy Matrjoška. It used to be done for a royality feasts.
And a little bit similar to Thanks Giving Day is here called Dožínky - it was after the last wheet was harvested by the end of summer and it used to be celebrated here in the past. You can find it in the book Babička by Božena Němcová (it was filmed also).
How cool!
