- For the money you cannot beat Mora knife. Made in Sweden, not China, you will be amazed at the value and utility of the these cool little blades. Some will cost under $20. And yet they are nearly perfect camp, light survival, survival kit, hunting, kitchen, tackle box,and even EDC fixed blades. Many models are shown and discussed, some feature carbon blades, some stainless. Most are below 4.0 oz in total carry weight. That is amazingly lightweight for a 4" blade. They are one of my preferred backpacking blades. Favorite models are shown with the Bushcrafter and 840MG topping the list. Multiple colors and configurations are available. Mora has improved their line according to user input as well. A high value blade reference standard that finally got a reference video review in TNP.

This makes me so damn happy! Here in Sweden you can get these knife everywhere. And I mean everywhere, They cost nothing and hell they work real well. Sure they are not full tang blades that you will display at home but in your backpack or on your belt as a real user knife they never fail. I've used them for 25+ years and never have I had a problem. Sure I use a Eka Nordic T12 and other Eka knifes ( also Swedish ) as my main blades but these are so damn valuable it's stupid not to have at least a few of them.
I have a 22 year old Classic 601 that I have used for everything all this time and it's still going strong.
The amazing Moras finally make their voice hear in TNP. Having used these blades for over five years, I'm a believer. They are light, tough, and cool. Mora continues to update their best sellers to make them even better. The all black Bushcraft is a fave! Thanks guys. -Nutn

I've been working in the Norwegian fishing industry. and the Mora knives have been used by every crew member for as long as i can remember. we have a drawer full of them ;) grate user knife

Moras are awesome. They cut great. During one of my dumber moments I gave myself a 7 stitch cut and didn't even feel it right away. Even the doctor in the ER wanted to know what kind of knife it was while praising the clean cut.

I have an old mora my grandfather gave me when i was 10, 13 years later it still comes on canoe trips with me. Great knives!

Sweden also make the best axes too, imo. Gränsfors Bruks is the only brand of axe I use.
Glad to finally see a review on the Moras. My personal favorites would be the Mora #1 for its history and classic vibe (second kind of cool), and the 711G for its all around usefulness. Great knives at a great price!

The thing with the sheats of many models of the moraknife is that they are not intended to be carried in the belt. It is a part of a system togheter with our style of workpants that have a special pocket on the outside of the tigh. Just on top of that pocket there is a button which is used to secure the knife sheat.
I used to work with an american as a painter here in Sweden and his was lyrical about our pants. He said that it was superior to anything he ever used in USA..

I have tried a lot of models and brands during the years but it seems like the classic models is the way to go. The other and newer ones tends to be over designed.

as a norwegian i have several of these, it can be bought in most hardware stores and sports stores around here, it's more or less standard. got my first one when i was 6 years old.
Absolutely love my Mora companion. Used it while skinning and butchering my moose last year. Held its edge well and didn't slip in my hand. The Scandi grind, once you've got worked out, re sharpens easily and keeps its edge.
You are so fortunate to live in a part of the country that has such awesome mountains.
Loved these since I got my first Mora... had the old (not great) wood handle many years ago, those handles and the "feel" really brought the overall knife down some, but that was still the first knife I could shave arm-hair with out of the box and it worked great as a general util./house knife... But after getting the rubber/plastic handled versions - those are really great knives for so many uses
I bought a Mora several years ago and pretty much put it aside and forgot about it. Just the other day I put it on the EPA and BAM! What an edge. It has lanyard holes both sheath and blade. It will for sure work on deer and coyotes for me this year. Excellent value knife. KRV's rule! Thanks Nutn!
Discovered Mora this year and am both satisfied and amazed! So many products are over hyped and over priced that we struggle to accept a truly excellent, value for money product, even when it is shoved in our face! Fortunately Mora is so excellent that it cannot be ignored.
I have just 2 and every time I use or look at them I still can't believe how good they are for such little money!
Another brand, again Swedish, that I can totally recommend is Hultafors, in the same vain as Mora but with a less comprehensive range. They make a wider range of other products though, including hand made axes. Well worth checking out.

I bought some Mora knives a while ago and i swear by them. For the price and value they are outstanding. Im a trucker and its my edc for what ever i need.

Great video. I love carrrying my Moras with me on my backpacking trips, and often use it to defend myself from feral summer sausage and wild apples. As to the firesteel issue, I carry a lighter, matches, and a big firesteel as a backup. And later this month when I'm heading out for a winter trip, I'll be carrying dura-flame starter log bar thingies to help get the fire going.

My most favorite review yet Nutn. Totally agree with your bushcraft opinion. Bic lighter is my fire kit. I do carry matches though as backup, but in 20 years of backpacking, I've never been without a nice fire whenever I needed.

Great timing for the mora vid and the axe video also. My young daughters are getting old enough for some outdoor adventures and i am getting our gear together for some overnight excursions in the north ga mountains very soon. It is time for them to start learning the lessons the outdoors can teach us. And the great function and value of these knives will come in very handy. Long time subscriber but don't comment very often. Just wanted to take a minute to say thanks for the Project. Those of us who truly understand what it is all about should speak up more often. I have several Mora knives. I have a Companion in my BOB, a Clipper in my tool box, a Craftline in the utility drawer in the kitchen and a couple of the old wooden handled ones floating around in the garage, they are great working blades and you can not beat the price. And I plan to pick up a Pathfinder soon!
The blue plastic handled Mora with the finger guard is the classic of the bunch. It is the beginners knife of any skandinavian kid. I remember them with red handles though. They last forever and the price of them makes the user likely to apply the knife without worrying about knicking or bending the blade.
They are the perfect tool.
Watching the video for what seems like a minute I look down at the time and I'm 15 in just goes to show how great his videos are

At christmas time, I made little EDC kits for two non-prepper friends I'm hoping to convince to get into preparedness. Each kit got a Morakniv Craftline Basic 511. Nothing superb at 12$, but as newcomers to the 5 Cs idea, they were kind of blown away by the quality of the knife itself. It's a great buy for anyone who's starting out.
Mom has always had like two moras since she was a scout so kinda grew up with mora knives
Great video not many youtubers talk about the common sense aspect of what they are reviewing. I love the outdoors and im always looking for something to add to my pack. A lot of times i have to make small changes to my gear and using a file to put a 90° edge on the spine of a mora is what im talking about. Rarely do i find a piece of gear thats perfect for what i want. As far as bang for your buck you really cant beat the mora knives. Anyone that hasnt bought one do yourself a favor and get one asap. Dont let the price fool you these are some of the best knives on the market

My first knife as a kid - was a Mora Scout. I probably have that in common with millions of Swedish kids thru the years Mora have been making the Scout knife!

The cold steel roach belly makes a great kitchen knife also. My wife took mine, and now we both use it for food prep.

I'm a big Mora fan and I think that their sheaths are very utilitarian and can be customized. With the Craft Line series you can make a para-cord slider neck/over the shoulder carry system. I have given a few away just because I can afford to. Some people are just not happy unless they're bitching about something! Thanks for the great video.

Your most eloquent, convincing review in a while (not that I needed any convincing on Mora's qualities :) ). About the strength...you want to be very gentle if you batton them. I broke two Companions during medium to heavy battoning. One of them was the heavy duty model. Both tangs broke inside the handle. Other than that, they are amazing value due to their lightweight, compactness and edge.
Never put much thought into my knives for survival, but as of recently I picked up some decent knives, two of them are moras, and they really DO live up to the hype, and at 15 bucks a pop, you cant go wrong. I have my higher end stuff too, but for every day use or around a camp these things are pretty darn good.

Terrific review. Thank you TNP! I've gone through 3 Mora's and I'm in love with my 2014 Bushcraft Black. The integrated FireSteel on it throws great sparks, you may ways to take another peek at it just to confirm. I've done batoning, carving, and even used it as the speartip for fishing. It's a terrific knife that can take a ton of abuse. It's certainly not my EDC (Benchmade Osborne 943SBK - amazingly sharp right out of the box!), but my Moras come with me on EVERY outing. Thanks again!
Thanks for bringing these to the Project Boss. Just a word on the roll/ chip issue: If you strop the edge a bit after purchase, it forms a micro-bevel that deters chipping. The chipping issue was a big sticking spot for me, until I learned about the micro-bevel. Thanks for all you do Sir. Have a great day...Stay safe.

Out of all the small fixed options and heck folders for that matter, the Mora has been with me on more outings than any other knife.
The Craftline Q (with red handle) was what i got issued when doing my tour in the Swedish army. Man that thing got absolutely tortured. Carving wood, splitting and preparing kindling, cutting cord, cardboard, rope, engine hose, used as improvised prybar, you name it we used it for it. Sure, i had to get it sharpened a few times, but the blade and the handle held up to everything.
I really recommend getting one. For the price you don´t have to worry about breaking it.
Nice review. I have a bushcraft black high carbon version: it's awesome ! Tears through wood like it's not even there! Also have my tactical loincloth. It's Molle compatible. Comes with a fero rod too.

I just bought a 840MG at a local hardware store for 10€ with the stores marking on the sheath (rubbed it off with some solvent). I was really happy to finally get one, especially for that price. It´s a great knife, it came freaking sharp and I think it will be for a while, the steel seems to hold up pretty well. It just corrodes instantly.

Spot on. The Mora suits your tag - nothing fancy, but highly effective.
They also do a cheap spoon knife for those bowls! Personally, I'd just use my soup can...
I do have many prettier knives, but none I carry as often as a Mora!

Hey! I have the same Leatherman Sidekick you have! What a great tool.
They make a darn good fillet knife I use on a regular basis on the Gulf. No rust. Good edge retention. Sharpens well. Cheap. Firm and responsive in hand. All around great, light, fillet knife.

The high level of First Cool has its own Second Kind of Cool. I love these knives. I have them in my cars, in my truck, in my packs, and a few other places. They are just good knives.

Mora's are great. These knives are affordable, dependable and can carve wood like nothing else. I usually make my own sheaths for them and always have one at my disposal. The original #1 style with a wooden handle is one of my personal favorites for carving, too.

Love my Moraknivs. They have knives for about every use imaginable. You want to fillet fish? Get the Mora Flex Trade Knife. The Companion is great for carving wood and general camp use. Name it and they have a knife for it. Morakniv and Opinel are some of the best knife bargains on the market and the most overlooked. Thanks for the video. I hope it doesn't make the price go up.

Love the stainless Mora so much, I gave the wife and daughter one and got myself a few extra's knowing that in the future they might not be available. Grew up with a Dad who brought Kershaw home all the time due to work. And I figured Kershaw was the best for the buck until Mora came across my table.
"you should have at least 10 Mora's" LOL, fully agree. The wife used her Mora to can chicken last week. The knife cut through the chicken BETTER than a hot knife through butter. Even my big Schrade (which I do like) is no match for the Mora.

@nutnfancy I love what you said about the firesteel. ALL of the bushcraft guys I follow and respect show multiple ways to start a fire and want people to have knowledge how but they ALL say bic lighters are CHEAP. Carry 2 or 3!

I have 3 Mora Companion HD's great knife in Carbon but the edge will roll, the sheaths will also ware out and not retain the knife after some time. I use it as my EDC when at home in the yard, cant beat the price. Price point and function is awesome Im sold and continue to use them
