    Nice review. I actually had the pleasure of working on this show, in the monster puppet/ miniatures dept. I was even asked to redesign Bogun, or at least his lower head, along with Gerukadon. Many years later, when I got into more collecting vinyl kaiju figures, it was cool to see my silly designs as toys.

      This is totally late (currently raising an 11 month old + a 3 year old and I'm exhausted), but I'm so excited to read your comment! Know that i love this show deeply! The fact that you had a part in its creation and also viewed/acknowledged this video means a lot! Thank you!!

    As a huge Ultraman fan, i appreciate this indepth review. I had very little knowledge of Ultraman great's toys (as he is refered to in the japanese canon) since i was not born when this released here.I am primarily familiar with the bandai japan toylines, so this was interesting to see for the first time. I recently watched through the show several months ago and was suprised by the compentecy of it compared to its japanese counterparts. (the same cannot be said for the american made ultraman powered. powered being the japanese name and it called the ultimate hero in america.) it also had a 13 ep release, but never actually aired in america due to its poor quality. fun fact, both ultraman great and ultraman powered appear in the current ultraman miniseries on tsuburaya's youtube channel called The Absolute Consipracy. Excluding a 3 second cameo in a 2008 film, this is the first time either Ultra has appeared in anything since theyre intial series. it even has an eng dub if subtitles arent youre thing.

      Thanks for the view and comment! The show has so many flaws, but it was the only Ultraman I knew to exist as a kid. Learning there were so many others blew my young mind! I’ll never be able to shake off the nostalgia I have for this particular series despite all the issues.
      Thanks for all the info! I’ll definitely have to check out Ultraman Powered. I’m on a kick now

    I didn't know that's a timer! One of my earliest memories of tv shows late 70s early 80s. I remember there was a group of Ultramen, and each looked different.

      Hey Elise! Your views and comments are always appreciated!
      They don’t let you forget it’s a timer in this series lol. Oh I know there’s a ton more Ultramen, but this was literally the only series I saw/knew existed as a kid. Finding out there were so many more blew me away!

    I grew up with the show and collected all the comic books that came out at the time. Never got the VHS, but I did get all the monster figures. I didn't want the Ultraman one because he was too "human like". I just wanted monster toys lol! I still enjoy the show and music and the monster designs are fun. Freaking crazy that they did not make a Gudis figure. The guy was the big bad for for the first half over the series.

    • @ToyTalkGuys
      @ToyTalkGuys  Před rokem

      I'm completely with you and him being human-like! Always only wanted the monster figures! It's absolutely absurd that Gudis wasn't produced ..holding out that Mezco or Super7 will correct that one day! Can't thank you enough for the view and comment :)

    I forgot to say that Millcreek Entertainment has been releasing great bluray sets for various Ultraman series over the past year. They have the license and want to release just about every single ultraman series that there is. Unfortunately there are maybe 6 or 7 series not included. One of them being this series. The reason is that since it is a Co-production, they do not have the rights to release it. Even though Tsuburaya has given the ok, the Australian production company has not. For them to be able to do a bluray release, there will have to be a licensing agreement reached. Also, Tsuburaya lost the masters for the series. The only version that is available is the one with the japanese subtitles embedded in it. (the clips you used for this video.) There is a japanese bluray set available. Blurays are region free, but i do not recommend it because Japanese blurays are outrageously over priced. I'm personally going to wait and hope the licensing rights can be sorted out.

    • @ToyTalkGuys
      @ToyTalkGuys  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you so much for the clarification! I’d love a Blu-ray release of this series. Fingers crossed an agreement’s reached.

    DreamWorks was essentially a shell before Bandai America came to be. If you google Ultraman DreamWorks prototypes you’ll see the Bandai mold that was briefly considered for the Ultraman figure but ultimately reserved for Power Rangers figures.

      @@ToyTalkGuysDreamworks Inc. (no relation to Dreamworks Pictures or any of its divisions) was originally a division of a Minnesota based toy company called Toy Soldiers Inc. They were known for their Patch-Up Pets plush dolls and the Gorby doll, based on the then-Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev.
      They also published games for the Sega Genesis, with most of them coming from NCS/Masaya.
      Toy Soldiers/Dreamworks were acquired by Bandai America sometime in the early 1990s; toys based on Ultraman, as well as Little Dracula (based on the British children’s book) were released around that time.

    For Barrangas-I’ve never mentioned this to anyone before-look at his “wings” and feet. Compare to Zetton’s eyes, hands and antennae. See any similarity?

    Last comment:
    - Andrew Prowse was the the director, respectable for directing Farscape.
    - There’s a sixth kaiju (Gigasaurus, which I have) that was the same scale but released only in Japan by Bandai
    - The SNES tie-in video game was featured pretty heavily in magazines leading up to the SNES console release (of course, before the Ultraman Towards the Future series even aired in the US), and it was a Bandai re-skin of a Mega Drive game.

    • @ToyTalkGuys
      @ToyTalkGuys  Před 3 lety

      That SNES game ..being kind.. is an acquired taste for sure.
      I've noticed the Japan releases, but they all seem to look smaller than the figures we had in the US? Are you saying that Gigasaurus looks good with this line? I thought he was one of the larger kajius of this series and I assumed that was a factor for him not getting a figure? Cool that you have one regardless!

    • @sephorce
      @sephorce Před 2 lety

      @@ToyTalkGuys Gigasaurus suffers from the same scaling issue as Barrangas that you brought up-if he were standing, he’d be formidable. Even at that, the Gigasaurus toy is one of the smaller ones even if he is pretty long, so definitely not to scale. My guess as to why DreamWorks didn’t release him is that it looked too bland, was too long for the packaging, and wasn’t very posable (only the hind legs move).

  • @sephorce
    @sephorce Před 3 lety +1

    There’s a great Ultraman Great “Blu-ray Box” Tsuburaya release from a few years ago, but unfortunately it’s a) prohibitively expensive (almost $200 MSRP) and b) the bonus discs that feature the two-part movie version with enhanced VFX are in Japanese dub without subs.
    That being said, Mill Creek supposedly has plans to release a Blu-ray soonish, along with the black-sheep 1993/1995 US series, Ultraman Powered (aka Ultraman the Ultimate Hero).

    I was a kid when the Ultraman TV show came out and it was my favorite show to watch. My dad bought me a bunch of the Ultraman toys. I had Ultraman and a few of the monsters. They were bigger than normal toys. I loved my Ultraman toys..
    My mom is a diehard Christian.. She went in my room when I wasn't there and took all my Ultraman toys and threw them away. She said they were the devil. My dad was very upset over that.
    I'm 40 now and my dad passed away in 2011 and I haven't seen my mom since. I just never jived with her. I'm a Christian but she took it to complete insanity..
