I really like that infeed table elevating mechanism. I'm currently working on a thickness planing machine that uses a hand-held planer, held in a frame on runners a fixed height above the wood. I've seen several described on you tube but they all have a guide track that has separate lifts at each corner, and are only for small boards. I want to build one six or so feet long and it would be a real pain to set it level. With a raiser like this one it could be done with one crank. I'd probably make the levers out of metal, but the concept is a very good one.
Matthias! I have nothing but respect for you sir! What you make is outstanding and I am awestruck your contructions. Please continue the good work. You are an inspiration to me. Thank you.
This was an impressive design. I especially like the parallelogram feature. I am currently building a jointer and was hung up on how I wanted to make the in feed, but after seeing this I think I’m gonna steal your design! Well done my friend!
i am saving my pennies to build a few of your tools.. i work in a woodshop and your website keeps me enthusiastic about woodworking after a week of work. can't wait to tinker in my own shop. you're a great inspiration (:
Hello author, I am constantly watch over your creativity and just want to express my respect for your talent and ability to so skillfully handle the wood, you're just a master of his craft, Bravo! Sorry for the mistake in the text, I am from Russia and I write through the translator, but I hope that the common sense of my message is not distorted.
This is freakin’ brilliant!!!! I have tons of maple lumber I milled with a homemade chainsaw mill but no jointer big enuf to handle it. Just might build one of these myself! Thanks again!
I'm not sure of the overall longevity of this but as far as workmanship goes, WOW! On another note I've been loving watching your videos and love them especially the ones you did on sharpening a plane blade and the anti nielsen plane choices. I'm just starting out in wood working and it's fantastic to have another perspective.
Sitting here in England looking at the rain out of the window (well it is an English summer!). Just thinking to myself, this man can make anything. As usual - brilliant.
Using your ideas for a table, my old planer and some modifications, I think I can make a 18 inch thickness sander which would be much more useful to me. Thanks for the great videos / ideas!
Matt, you amaze me. From home made jointer to home made air gun to...whatever may come to mind. It would be nice to have a 12 inch jointer, but I never would have thought of making one like that. Good luck with it, but as usual you seem to make your own luck. Larry
Man you are smart. It was neat watching how you put this together. Now I will go to the hardware store and buy a tool I will use once but I will not complete the project.
I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but you can buy those T nuts with barbs on them so you hammer them into place, and then tighten from the other side....they won't budge on you (but you may have discovered these already, Lee Valley, Richelieu and others carry them)
Excellent engineering on the parallelogram design, much easier to make with simple tools than dovetailed ways. I'd be inclined to use an induction motor, but then again, you've already got the motor off the planer.
I am very impressed with not only your woodworking, but mechanical assets as well. I hope you have started using push pads when especially planing the face. A friend of mine lost 2 fingers when the board was shot out and his hand went down on the blades. But that surely was some good work there. Thanks for sharing.
I really like this. I'll keep my open for a cheap thicknesser with a view to replicating your design. Thanks for posting the video. btw, I think you did a great job narrating the video and showing everything that needed to be shown. :)
Hey, terrific build as always. I have a 6 in delta/rockwell jointer and will be buying a rockwell 8 in joniter mid january 2017. I was wondering if the 8 in jointer can work with a feed roller (as you have with the Grizzly shaper). I do plane lots of 6 in wide teak , mahogany + cedar boards in my Delta DC-380 15-inch thickness planer n was looking into setting up the 8 in jointer in a linear production run(either before or after the planer). If so any ideas on how to set it up? Thanks.
So glad to have found this channel. If interested you sire would make an excellent tool maker. Not these kinds of tools but rather strike and prgressive die making and design. You are a natural problem solver and shop owners pay big $$$$s to a person such as yourself.
Hey Matthias, I'm wondering how this held up over the years. Is it pretty accurate? I think I've seen that you have a cast iron jointer so I'm wondering how it compares. I've got a 6" but it would be nice to have a 12" jointer but I don't want to spend a bunch of time and effort if it's not very accurate and doesn't last very long
I've said it before and I'll say it again - Mattias, you're a genius, what a way to make a junker into something really really functional.
Mad skills!!! The jointer, that's great; explaining it in less than 10 minutes - even better!!! I love how you just get to the point.
I really enjoy that you added a site on all of your projects so we can see how you did them. Great job and thank you for sharing with us
Great video of how you made your jointer. The adjustment mechanism on the in-feed table is genius.

Click on the link in the description for more about the jointer, and you will also be able to find a link to the page where I sell the plans
Hey Matthias,
This is incredible!
Thanks!!

Your handy work is incredibly impressive and your videos are so inspiring. Please keep making and posting!!
6:33 - loving the foot protection, no loss of toes in the steel caps!!!

Such precision in you work !
Has anybody ever accused you of being a genius?
The stuff you make with wood simply amazes me.
Oh, don't worry. I will. I watch all of your videos. Thank you for taking the time to make them. You do great work!
I love your engineering sense. Well done!
brilliant. I admire people who are able to be as precise as such.
Outstanding job. You've a knack for precision machine work. This was great to watch. Thanks.
Pete
That is just beautiful, now I have a new project, Loved it very well done!

Спасибо, советское образование оно такое. Всё бы ничего, но друг - я писал этот комент 6 лет назад. Это прям как привет из прошлого.
I love how you make everything green.
This is freakin’ brilliant!!!! I have tons of maple lumber I milled with a homemade chainsaw mill but no jointer big enuf to handle it. Just might build one of these myself! Thanks again!
Awesome awesome. This machine you built is nicer than most all metal joiners. Nice job
Friend,you are a GENIUS !!!
Your videos inspire me.
Thank you.
This man is a genius. Finally CZcams lives up to its potential! Keep tinkering, Matthias.
SWEEEEET!! I've waited all my life for this video. Thanks soooo much!! Can't wait for the plans to be available!
I am impressed with the good design and achievable results for others who like what you did.
You are quite an inspiration for teaching others how to create their own to tools.
This is beautiful work.
I'm not sure of the overall longevity of this but as far as workmanship goes, WOW!

Well he's still using it 10+ years later
Totally amazing Matthias. Your video's are truly inspiring.
Nice work. I like all your projects!!

I planned on getting stuff done this afternoon, but I've just found that there's a heap of your videos I haven't watched yet!

I have watched You in the Past.
Thanks for sharing Your Master Hand crafts.
My Regards Agnes

Hello Matthias i want to give my congratulations, your projects are excellent
Oi Matthias quero dar meus parabéns, Seus projetos são ótimos.
You have a God given talent Mr. Wander
***** And spelling his name wrong.
I always enjoy your innovative solutions.
Love the rise and fall mechanism. Thanks.
OMG This is very nice job. Great video
Absolute brilliant!!! Great machine!
I would imagine that building the thing, for you, gave as much enjoyment as having and using it in your shop.
Absolutely amazing - and inspirational.
No matter why they did this, but the wonderful work, congratulations.
Very nice I hope that it lasts a good long time and gives you many years of reliable service.
Well done a 12" jointer is a nice feature.
Here we go, this looks excellent 👌👌👌
Around here, I can buy a 12" planer for $200, but a 12" jointer would cost over $2500.
Супер ! золотые руки и голова!
Amigo genio mis felicitación como siempre el mejor!!!!!
crazy
planer to jointer conversion wow
Up to your usual high standard Mathias---good stuff..
Great Job... lot of respect.
So glad to have found this channel. If interested you sire would make an excellent tool maker. Not these kinds of tools but rather strike and prgressive die making and design. You are a natural problem solver and shop owners pay big $$$$s to a person such as yourself.
Bravo bravo!! Good ideas and good work
vous faîtes un excellent travail et Merci.
you are doing a great job and thanks
I expected to see the Professor and Mary Ann step out from behind a palm tree with a plywood radio. - Great Job.
Absolutely amazing! Now I have a reason to get rid of my Delta 12" planer...
really cool their projects, would like to get your plants in full size, I am Brazilian and thank you.
Very nice work!
Bravissimo !!!! Un genio.
Now I know what I'm going to do with the 13" delta I have with a really rusty raise and lower system from being in storage. Thank you very much.
