I have sat on the exact same bench numerous times before and had my bait and I do not know what it is about the clouds up there but they are always amazing. Lovely to see the sun and the heather too and took by kids and grandkids to the summit of Roseberry Topping so many times and it is always a great view but normally a lot busier. I cannot wait for those summer days to come back again, cheers Alan

Well you certainly can't beat a hike that starts and finishes at a train station. No need for free parking and figuring out where. It's looked like a good starter hike for this year with a bit of elevation but not too much. Quite a variety of views and almost in need of machete. Even Homer Simpson was at the trig...DOH. A super hermit friendly looking hike 👍
Hi Paul we filmed it back in July but is a great one to do to get back out! Did a hike yesterday that was so wet and muddy it took us forever and was hugely exhausting and mind taxing to just try and stay up right 🤣 good spot on Homer! hope you are having a nice weekend 👍

thank you Matt 🙏 it’s secretly my least favourite time to be out in the British Countryside! between each take im usually effing and jeffing about flies, overgrown bits, ticks and the potential of standing on a venomous snake! but its the best time to film, how uplifting it is to see those wonderful green fields and blue skies in the dark of winter. perversely I’m out in my element almost every chance I get in the winter, admiring the stark trees, the brown fields and grey skies whilst bolting over frosty grass at a beautiful pace without interference by any insect! but I wouldn’t know where to begin filming it. hope your move is going well, atb 🙏

That looks like such a gorgeous place to hike guys and yes those Cleveland hills looked stunning but you had a big climb up from the train station ! Loved the James Cook monument standing all majestic there and your picnic spot was lovely. The summit of Roseberry topping had lovely views too and we hate those overgrown areas and tics here in North Wales as well 😐 That looked like such a great circular and Jill got some lovely photos of the butterfly and sheep :) ~ Anna 🐑👍

Hi Nick and Jill aren't those Cleveland hills wonderful. Funny to see everything grown high you forget it gets that big. Loved the purple Heather. Thanks so much Donna just found out about its name after someone else asked in the comments! The name Roseberry Topping derives from Othenesberg, Old Norse for the hill of Odin, named by the Scandinavian invaders. The initial “R” arose from the village of Newton-under- Roseberry, with alliteration of the “r” of “under”. Toppinn is Old Norse for hill. This became Anglicised into Topping. Just in case you wanted to know 🤣

thank you Steven, yes its definitely important to remember what was on the sarnie of the day. have to say, whilst having never tried Quorn your Quorn and cheese looked lovely. we are really enjoying the last of the winter hikes (the spring flies are already out in force to annoy me). but yes nothing looks nicer than the British countryside in its summer glory. you just have to put up with me effing and jeffing every other second whilst I wade through long grass, ticks, flies and snakes!

Absolutely right Chris. I can remember chatting with you at length when I filmed this last July. The guy around your parts was doing a great job of not painting the flush brackets when he was painting them. I wish the guy in the NYM took the same care!

Fun hike following the stoney brick road, Jill and Nick. We'll have to take the train there. We come from anywhere! (near Kansas too) Don't let the witch steal your lunch. Wise choice with the banana instead of one of "those apples!" But it did change you disposition Jill. We'll maybe not you both did always remind us of monkeys! 🤣🤣But, we love monkeys! Love you both!

When I walked the Cleveland Way last year there could have been a rave at top of Roseberry with the amount of folk .was a bank holiday though. Much easier to walk up than it looks. I had a lovely time sitting on the bench just through the gate from Cleveland Way chatting to folk .filming and scoffing the food in my backpack.
hi there yeah it is pretty mental on bank holidays but the most mental was one time we drove past during lock down the amount of cars parked in the car parks below and along the roads and it looked like they were queuing to get up roseberry topping 🤷🏻♀️🤣 we know the bench you speak of it’s awesome! have a great week ahead 👍

Enjoyed getting my hike on at the Matterhorn of the North. Good to see the gate shut again. Captain Cook - what a good pirate I mean explorer he was! Good lunch to keep the skipping energy up. The over grown was a bit of tough going. Awesome to take the train. Cheers👍

Love this - It’s beautiful countryside there. We used to live the hike up Highcliff Nab and approach from that side. Picnic at hanging rock too - Yorkshire style .. What a great video - thanks for taking us back there !

What a delightful film this was, seven miles of beautiful North York Moors. Loved the tree hugging, this world needs more hugging. James Cook was married in my home town of Barking in its Abbey. Outstanding picnic spot and you gave us details of your sandwich filling (glad to say Steven also provided this information in his film today). Why did they paint the Trig Point? Outstanding Gate Of The Week (so glad it’s back). This is the second FIVE STAR FILM I’ve given tonight ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Both Steven & yourselves are an inspiration to us lesser mortals. ❤️

Winter is our favourite time to hike for that very reason. the thought of the ticks returning soon is very off putting!
A lovely hike with the Gen X’s on a Sunday dinner time. It looks so pretty, but that first climb…no ta 😂. The seems to be statues for Captain Cook everywhere in that next of the woods. That picnic is definitely our cup of tea. Roseberry Topping looks really nice with stunning views. Good looking gate there, worthy of it’s accolade! Really enjoyed that, the weather was a bit better than is here today and we’re about to drive down to Gosport in an hour. Nice one both, fab as always x

Lovely hike guys, this whole countryside looks so tranquil and peaceful! The deep grass section always makes me nervous because I can't see where I'm stepping, mostly because of the snakes and in some places the grass here is up to a meter high. 😄
you and me both Ervin. I get very nervous walking in the summer, particularly in England where so many pathways are overgrown. We have the Adder in our parts, a venomous snake that like all snakes, likes the long grass. it’s no fun gambling with your life through these overgrown sections and then spending half your evening picking nasty ticks off that have joined you on your hike! but it is worth it for those amazing colours and views. hope your having an amazing weekend!
Great to see a classic GENX hiking video 😍 It had all the ingredients that make your videos so much fun with gate of the week and trig dances (can't believe that graffiti ) but absolutely loved the reenactment of th Wizzard of Oz 😎😍😁 Nice to see a reminder of last summer with lots of wild flowers and even a butterfly though hate fighting my way through the dreaded bracken. A great hike, it does look an easier way to reach Roseberry Topping than from the car park, albeit a longer route. I feel sorry for the person who gets the job of painting the trig point every year :) what a job! I'm not keen on being nettled either, hayfever tablets will help stop the itching of a stinging nettle rash btw.
ah that’s good to know about hay fever tablets. thank you Andy. you did amazing with that direct route from the car park. I’ve only done it that way about a dozen times and never once was it easy. probably the easiest, with the least ascent and most gradual is from the free Gribdale Car Park. your already about 600 foot up and you can make it a circular by taking in the farm where Cook worked. very picturesque.

I love this walk although I did it the other way round (Roseberry Topping first). I think doing Captain Cook first is a smart idea. Watching your video I am very tempted to do this one again soon, it's such a nice walk. I hate the overgrown bits too, I always wear trousers as I'm a nettle wimp, but then end up boiling in the summer! Hi Emily to be fair we have done this hike so many times and different variations but we did really enjoy it this way round! we are more afraid of ticks than nettles although nettles do hurt 😞 We too really enjoy watching this back as we are definitely in our best place on hike like this! Soon the farmland turn to deep lively green and filled with offsprings I bet. I guess no raccoons are begging for food on the trail, right? hahah
It is very pleasant hiking trail with some art on the trig..hahah what happened to hiker's motto, NO TRACE BEHIND???
haha I am happy to see yo back on the trails...Once we have warm weather, we will need to start to hike...footage shortage hahahahh

Well that was a quickie for sure, with three gates if I can count correctly! Loved the lovely walk up and steep one down and then through the nettles...and did you say tic? Hope not! Now I wasn't sure but that Captain Kirk...was it the one from Star Trek or another one....which brings me on to an invite to an upcoming Collaboration that I am doing to be announcing pretty soon....May the Fourth ~ May the Force Be With You ...over the years I've made it a crossover event with artist of different genre's but I thought I'd step it up a notch and include all my CZcams friends because as you've proved to me with the Steam punk week there's always a way to weave Anything into a video...so what do you think about it? Would you be interested and can you think of anyone that I possibly wouldn't know to include in this collaboration...usually the videos are the most 20 minutes...I'm going for a day of fun...of course I wouldn't expect you to be at all the premiere's but it would be fun to watch a few I would think...and the playlist would be awesome! It’s an absolutely cracking walk that one! One of my favourites from my younger days but do like to do it still. The views are fab aren’t they from Captain Cooks Monument. I also think the view across before you descend to the ascend Roseberry Topping. It’s always like an achievement to get to the top of Roseberry! You got a nice clear day with good visibility into the distance. A cracking walk and video! Hope you both have a lovely weekend. all the vert best, David & Rachel ❤️
