    This is one of the funniest pranks I've seen, you have a smart mind for candles. Wish we had some smells like this in Australia.

    • @CarolReidCA
      @CarolReidCA Před 5 lety +1

      I bet you do! Maybe not the gross ones, but would you really want your house smelling like that?
      I have a friend who orders some PEOs, or pure essential oils, from Australia. I strongly prefer to use PEOs over synthesized scents.
      Check out eroma.com.au for candle scents. They also have an online request, so you can request any scent you like. They can probably mix up a batch for you! (Of even the prank scents, if you really want them!)
      I know there's a PEO supplier there in Australia somewhere, yet last time we did an order, my friend ordered huge bottles, so there hasn't been a need to order any more for quite a while.
      They have the most incredible real, Rose PEO! You might cringe at the price of true rose PEO, but it's an incredible smell that some come kinda close to it, yet it's not the same. If you get a chance to smell some actual unadulterated, true rose PEO, it's like nothing else. My friend uses it very sparingly, as it's I believe the last I saw it was around $700-800/half ounce. I found some rescently that 2ml for about $60. It takes a huge amount of roses to distill down into rose oil, a vaccuum chamber, and a few other things to get to the PEO, but is totally worth every step of the process, and worth every penny to buy a true rose oil. Some of your really pricey perfums are made with Rose otto PEO, and people wonder why it's so expensive. Every petal of essentially a field fill of rose bushes, has to be washed, free of any bugs or leaves, harvested all at once, processed quickly, distilled, processed to get the water out of it, kept cool in the process, etc.
      Watching these videos has me wanting to make some candles, and perhaps start setting up to make some rose PEO! I love the smell of essential oils! Making them is a fun process, buy a lot of work. I may just buy some and make a few batches of candles. I generally keep around some lavender oil, as i live in a place where lavender grows year-round.
      As for the prank candles? Not so much for me, but it did get me thinking about making some candles with extraordinary wonderful scents!
      If I make some real rose scented candles, I'm going to have to play with some waxes, look at some chemistry before using such an expensive oil, yet it would be incredibly rewarding to get the perfect rose candle down to a science, where the PEO scent really came through! I know some waxes can alter, or worse, destroy the rose scent altogether, only leaving a faint hint of what it was. Citrus is known to do much the same.

      @@CarolReidCA I'm from Australia and yes Eroma is probably one of the bigger candle fragrance suppliers but there is a lady down here and she now has a big business, she has a fragrance candle called red roses it is a true rose you cannot tell the difference between a bunch of roses and her fragrance her candles range is BE ENLIGHTENED red roses, she has many other fragrances that also smell amazingly like the real thing.She worked with a French Perfumist

    Use a wick infused with magnesium flakes and make sure the wax is paraffin. That way the candle can't be blown out (it's how trick birthday candles work).

  • @eskimoquinn1
    @eskimoquinn1 Před 2 lety

    I think the icing on the cake of the prank candle would be to use magnesium powder laced wicking, so that when they try to blow out the candle it relights itself.

    @CarolReidCA Před 5 lety

    OMG, I thought you might throw up on that 2nd one... You'd have to mix and pour those outside... Just watching you made me cringe!
    I don't know that promoting these nasty frangrances is really a good idea. Ew!
    Could you do a video on natural fragrances, PEOs or Pure Essential Oil, use in candles? I understand that citrus has to be concentrated, poured at a low temp, to actually have any citrus scent when the candle burns.
    I'd like to make a naturally scented, strong citrus, long burning candle.
    Also, which waxes last longer, burn cleaner? That would be a great video.
    You're brave to actually smell those things!
    I made some that had pepperoni pizza scent. It smells great once you get the mix correct, but a tad too much, or too little, and it just smalls weird. Some scents are a bit fussy like that, but are well worth the effort! I bought it more out of curiosity than anything else, and at first wasn't sure it was even close... A little experimenting and it's quite amazing!
    The factorirs work out the scents much like they do perfumes... They get the basic chemical composition from a mass spec, then they can chemically reproduce the scents. Some are amazingly close, yet if you're really sensitive to smells, you can tell the difference.
    One of the really kewl things about using synthetics, however, is that there's no pollen, and even allergens can sometimes be left out of a synthetic, so the scent can be enjoyed without having the allergy issue (yet sometimes the chemicals that produce the scent are the actual allergen... Something to keep in mind for customers, and those making the candles, soaps, etc.
    When using an oil like cinnamon, that can be an irritant, it's wise to be careful how much scent is used. I love the smell, yet when desiring a really strong scent, it could become irritating if you used say nothing but cinnamon PEO. Adding a good amount of ginger PEO can keep that cinnamon smell, the ginger gets drowned out, yet it intensifies the cinnamon, so you can use much less, thus getting that incredible cinnamon scent, very strong, yet without the irritation!
    Add to your cinnamon your ginger, then some micronized oatmeal, some sugar, and you get the smell of cinnamon toast fresh out of the oven!
    I make a "Grandma's cinnamon toast" soap my family loves! I use ground cinnamon, ground ginger, micronized oatmeal and cane sugar, buy no added oils at all.
    Do you have a video on adding herbs and spices? Other dried additives?
    I've done some candles with cinnamon sticks around the edges that turned out fabulous! It's been a whilr since I've made any, but your videos have inspired me to get out the old double boilers and the bowls I use for soaps, and make some goodies!
    I think a catnip candle, as long as burned in an enclosed space wher kitties can't get at it, might be a good one to try as well. Would definitely have to keep it away from the cats, however!
    Loving your videos! Glad I found your channel!
    BTW, Thank you for your military/law enforcement service!
    Oh! Almost forgot! Do you ever do a live stream on CZcams? It would be great to do a live pour and Q & A! I learn so much from chatters in live feeds, additional to the info in the live feed itself! Sometimes people pose a question that I haven't even considered, and even the beginner questions are great review, especially when you haven't done a pour for a while.
    Have a great day!
