About the afterburner - I once asked a Viggen pilot what the max speed is - His answer was "I dont know, with the afterburner I keep accelerate until the fuel is empty
As a Viggen mechanic in my conscription days, the internal fuel with afterburner on will only last 9 minutes. I can see the counter clocking down two fast so maybe they took that into account đ
Also flaps?? They are connected to the gear so when you gear down the flaps in the front automatically extends...

The Viggen has a rip speed of around 1534 kph. This is like one of the highest in the game making catching fast jets by diving a real possibility.
It's a figter that would play dare with SR-71 Black Birds flying over the Baltic to spy on the Soviets. In 1987 4 of them escorted a SR-71 after it was picked up on radar outside of Gotland. When south of Ăland they got a visual and decided to shadow the damaged plane. One of the engines on the Blackbird had blown up so it was low and slow. The presence of 2 Viggens from Norrköping was probably enough for any Russian fighter or interceptor that was inbound to just turn tail and run back home since the Viggen was one of the fastest and the most maneuverable jet fighter in the world. Later, outside of Bornholm the two Viggens was relieved by 2 other Viggens from Ăngelholm and turned back home because their fuel was running low.

Almost got my Viggen spaded, can confirm. Long dives and praying the cannon aim is correct is a thing. Most satisfying jet espec for chasing enemy players until they run out of energy and drop into the ground :D

The pilot giving you the airshow for the second clip (scramble) was also the pilot that cleared your six when you made the mistake.
You managed a full throttle take-off with landing flaps, impressive.
Those landing flaps are also takeoff flaps. IRL they are connected to the gear and automatically go up and down with it.

Quick viggen tip, you can âselectâ your afterburner mode if you use the mouse wheel, Ie move the mouse wheel one tick from 100% power, you can still hit Mach while stock and use a lot less fuel
There was an incident with the viggen at a swedish airbase during winter where a viggen was flying way too slowly just a couple of meters above the ground and had to switch the afterburner on to avoid a crash. It lead to 8 people being injured, 3 of them being seriously injured. One guy was found 15 meters from the spot he stod before and all of the snow on the ground was gone. The afterburner of the viggen is quite powerful to say the least.
Fuel is going fast on all jets I've played in afterburner after this update.

In real life the fuel max burn rate was close to 1000 liter/minute (265 gallon/minute), so in theory about 7 minutes of fuel.

Phly you should do an operation were multiple squadrons of torpedo bombers attack ships with escorts and the fleet has carriers two fleets and after each attack they swap from defense to attack till one side has no ships
JAS (Jakt, Attack, Spaning) stands for: Hunting, Attack and Reconnaissance translated from Swedish. Which means Air to Air as first prio, then attack which means ground targets as second and last says for itself :)

It suddenly dawned on me how long I have been subbed to you Phly. I started watching CZcams regularly when I joined secondary school in September 2014, around the same time I found your channel Iâm now going into university and all the while on a pretty regular basis even in the periods where I gave up on Warthunder I would always watch a phly video.
Although my memory is vague from the years that have passed I realised that you have been through at least 3 pcs, one of which I remember you threw into the pool or something like that, several intros and channel art your house and old minivan got damaged in hail so you got a 3 series bmer, I remember how you were a pilot and then also the video where you shared your experiences in telling your family you were going to do CZcams full time, I remember when oddbawz was a f2p player and so when you would do your bomber formation videos he would get left behind and fall out the sky, I remember when you potentially saved a plane full of people because the flaps or alerons or something were stuck right outside your window. I also remember you announcing your girlfriend and then now having come back to watching your channel it is mind blowing that you are now a father. Anyway I hope all goes well, I donât know how you have put up with warthunder all this time but I hope everything is going well for you and that you never give up so you can keep bringing joy to others
While viggen is fairly quick and have a fairly long range and very short take of and landning. The real one had a feature that really no other fighter had untill the 90tys. It had a joint radar comunication computer. So ot could share radar data not only with other aircrafts but also the ground.
Sweden was the first nation in the world to incorporate an Air Combat Communication System which allowed all airborne Viggens as well as the ground stations to share information on enemy locations and signatures. As soon as the longer range ground stations spotted an enemy, it took only 5-6 seconds for the information to be in the hands of the pilots (In the fucking 60s and 70s) which allowed them to adapt accordingly.
STRIL-60 and STRIL-70 were literal decades ahead of their time, just like the Viggen itself.

Gaijin map makers: blowing bubbles with their lips as they make lopsided nonsense, clapping their feet together as tanks get stuck in terrain and certain maps have a clear bias towards one spawn making gameplay dull as crap.

Day 12: Phly, I've got a series idea for ya, called "Chaos... is a Ladder." (or alternately, "Shoots and Ladders"!) Simply start at the reserve tier of tanks, and play one match. Next match, you can upgrade to the highest BR tank that you killed in the previous match. Rinse n' repeat. See how many matches it takes to get to top-BR.

Use Pulse Doppler on low alt enemy, Use regular radar on high alt enemy, press Y-1-5 to switch to PD mode, u can use ACM mode to pick target, there is plus in PD mode, u can use that in low alt and Chaff doesnt effect to PD radar, cons PD doesnt like lock enemy that fly side by side
"NÀsta mÄl" is apparently equal to Mr.Moon
VIggen should have a re-searchable "ground refuel and rearm" item that allows you to land on roads and have it be resupplied there since that is what Swedish aircraft are all about. Maybe even add a re-searchable that turns it into an JA 37D with better electronics and avionics.
Also, I really hope they add the AJ 37 with a AJS 37 modification so we can do some ground strikin, preferably with the RBS15 (I mean it's an anti-ship missile, but works on land targets ;D)
Yo phly, you should use the pulse Doppler radar on the viggen when you are at low altitude cause it doesnât care about ground clutter as much as the normal radar does.

Go into ground RB with the viggen and strv122b plss. And when you get to spawn in the viggen, you land on a road and wait for a enemy aircraft to show up. Then you scrambme up to kill him!

It's a client side problem. The cannon shells still fly out and hit targets normally. Those mid-air explosions don't deal any damage to your plane because only your client sees that.

The Viggen has pulse doppler fyi for anyone who didn't know though due to radar changes it is really only good for head-on engagements down low or if you're sniping at the ground from up high. I noticed radar itself can't be used when near the enemy, low to the ground, on their 6. It works near them on their 6 at high altitude though. I think this was done to prevent the use of radar missiles like sidewinders. This change forces the use of IR missiles from behind.

Viggen is more of a dual role than true multirole until the last version.
Viggen was *not* multirole. It was designed as an interdiction bomber (AJS) and was later modified to fill an interceptor role (JA).
I can provide a somewhat educated explanation of the bullets hitting your own plane. Obviously they aren't doing damage, but this is likely an accidental or temporary fix. The bullets aren't meant to be hitting your plane but gaijin REALLY enjoys pretending autocannons aren't accurate. The russian autocannon rounds on the mig-15 mysteriously fly all over the place without any real reason. Its the same thing where gaijin is pretending that they need to balance it so they just make it cripplingly inaccurate but they neglected that due to where the projectile spawns on the aircraft its so inaccurate it will hit its own hitbox and detonate because thats how the game engine works.
You know what would be really cool if someone on your team was getting chased by a Missle and you came in and use your flares to knock their Missle off

@phlydaddy You never used the Pulse Doppler setting on the radar. It eliminates a lot of the ground clutter.
Day 4: Hey Phly, ive been watching you for nearly 2 years, but i downloaded the game 3 weeks ago, im grinding the Russian tree, BMP, T-80 and T-90. I play RB, and ive reached the ASU-57 along with the T-34/57. I get 3-5 kills each game. Ive noticed that extremely many of my controls, especially in Air battles are unassigned, and im unsure what every one of them do. I cant seem to find a video where you show all your controls and keybinds. If you have made one, would you link it for me? If you havenât made one, id really love to see one!

the hitting yourself was the HE bullets exploding in the barrel part where they dont do damage but it was indicated as such (ap ammunition still was shot)

I love how my ps4 breaks right before this update. I also have been grinding sweden for over 2 years and was right about to get my first jet and the strv 81 then my ps4 broke the day i got the strv 81.
