DEADLY MINI MEATBALL BOMBS | VIGGEN Close Air Support - Hry
2:20 - those are fuse extenders. They allow the bombs to explode about 3 feet higher off the ground, ensuring massive damage above ground instead of making craters.
Isn't that called an airburst detonation, or is that term reserved for nuclear weapons or something
I was looking for the explanation. Thank you.
They are also one of the definitions of a "daisy cutter". Explodes the bomb above the ground for the fragmentation effect rather then the bomb burying itself in the ground and smothering the fragments. Good video btw. o7
@@jaek__ no, since it is technically still hitting the ground, airburst would use an altitude sensor rather than basically a longer fuze. also these are just meant to explode above ground not above the target itself, airburst is usually for bigger bombs and it explodes directly above the target so the shrapnel or straight down onto the target
@cavemanbum ahhh thank you my friend
Hey Phly, when I was in Afghanistan I watched almost every single one of your videos, id love to maybe play with you sometime, not on a video but just to talk to one of my favorite youtubers/ war thunder players and a father just like myself.
Did you serve?
And did you ever witness a real BRRRT in person? I heard there were many BRRRTs to be heard.
@@ThelVadam7777 Yeah I was an Infantrymen in the United States Army with the 3rd Calvary Regiment of Mounted Riflemen. It was a Stryker unit
@@angry_zergling Yes both in theatre and in training
@@angry_zergling No he has a vacation home in Kandahar, real cheap housing next to the poo pond
"Look at that fuel drain."
Sheeshus. It's like the 'X minutes to go' phase of a movie bomb countdown.
It's how time passes when you realise that all those little things you were doing before you had to leave the house are starting to add up. It's like what happens when you measure fuel by expected flight time rather than mass and start squirting everything the fuel pumps can handle into the back end of a jet engine.
But a moment's silence for the AH-1F and their not so great rocketry skills being captured for all to see.
Day... 53?: Take the Scimitar, the last Supermarine, out for a spin. You got the quad 30mm and 20 kg/s burst mass, you got 24 chances to find out if British AP rockets can do anything. Why not pair with the Scimitar scout tank for... oh. It's not in the game. War thunder! WAR THUNDER!!
1:55 It actually did have a bombing computer IRL, basically all Swedish aircraft did from '55 onwards
Hey phly "The expression 'Scot-free' originates from the Scandanavian word, 'Skat,' which means âtaxâ or âpayment.â The word mutated into 'scot' as the name of redistributive taxation meant to provide relief to the poor during the 10th century. Someone who did not have to pay the tax for some reason was referred to as 'scot-free.'" Found this on a website!
might wanna change that to skatt before some brits show up saying scat
@@orue5499 scoobeedeebopdoowopbown
Wait - Welfare was around during the 10th Century?!?!
@@moistmike4150 yes, taxes have existed since some of the first ruling empires. They may have varied a few times with what is to be payed with such as gold, wool, grain etc. The Greek and roman empires had taxes as well as the Egyptians around 3000BC. There are only 2 certainties in life, death and taxes hahaha
@@monolitwoods Did any prior civilizations distribute crack pipes? 'Cuz, that's a thing.
That spike on the tip of the bomb could very well be a stand-off detonator for a HEAT/HE frag warhead. HEAT is most effective when it explodes away from the target far enough for the explosive jet to form. It would be effective with the frag aspect in that the bomb would detonate above the surface with most of the fragments hitting the target area rather than being wasted on the walls of the crater.
Spot on
War thunder is such a great game, Iâm lucky my wifeâs boyfriend introduced me to this game :)
I laughed a little to hard at that
That's really nice... Imagine make a platoon with your wife and your "friend"
hold on, your wifes boyfriend ?!?
Interesting.. đ€
@@Past10Performance same. It also took me a while to realize
Other nations: guided bombs, atgms and helis
Sweden: BOMBS BUT FASTER
Yo Phly, now once Gaijin has lowered repair prices for B29/Tu-4 you and
the gang should fly in formation and delete whole ground RB map.
Show us that big bombers are now playable.
Day:2
Lincoln or Shackleton would be good too, 18000lb if bombs
The pointie thing on the front of the bomb is a "copperhead " detection system. They're automatically designed to target vehicle armor with advanced magnetic sensors. They experienced problems however, in which more than just one bomb would target a vehicle creating a bomb drop of lemmings.
Lemmings
Nothing so Fancy I'm afraid.
It's just a daisy cutter style fuse designed to make the bomb airburst.
For the 120kg SprÀngbomb m/71 it would primarily be used on the high drag (Parachute Retarded) version of the bomb.
And the purpose of the fuse is to cause the bomb to detonate mid air instead of burrowing into the ground before exploding.
(Bomb explodes when the Fuse probe touches the ground and the bomb is still airborne)
Do any of you know what kind of targeting assistance the pilot would've had for the bombs?
I thought perhaps Viggen's -Nintendoâą- cartridge-fed computer "CK-37" might've helped with such a thing but then recalled that its purpose was mostly for navigation.
@@Lowkeh It is also used for mavericks.
@@thehover6824 Oh cool, thank you!
The more you know. đ

So that visual model is inaccurate fot the way it currently works in war thunder as it currently works as a normal low drag bomb with a impact/delayed fuse and as such the visual model should not have the long probe on the front of the bomb.
a bit sad that this advanced fragmentation bomb is pretty much useless in war thunder since there is no soft targets to use it against, instead we pretty much have to use it against buildings where the low HE content makes it pretty awful
Those bombs are actually high drag bombs irl and the low drag ones u actually dont hade a tip on, the diffrence is more that the highdrag ones have "shutes" and slow down drasticly so you can drop them from a low alltitude but the highdrag ones you "can" drop low but allwas drop from above high up diving down. And the computer Viggen had did calculate "ccip" but you had to put in the correct QFE for it to be percise and a War Thunder map has lots of hills. Hopefully this Comment made some sense otherwise just search "Viggen DCS" and so on :)
Hey Phly! About 3 years ago you made a video about the AMX-30B2 BRENUS and how it was one of the worst MBTs in the game. Well today the BRENUS has had quite a glow up, as it now boasts a pretty nice array of tools at the comfortable BR of 8.3, such as thermals, a laser rangefinder, IRCM, and a pretty nice lineup to back it up. So I encourage you to take a look at this underappreciated vehicle again (day 18)
The Viggen has a good computer inside, for its time and as far as i know a special early one. The CK37 (Central Kalkylator 37): "was the world's first airborne computer to use integrated circuits" (Wikipedia Quote). Flying it in DCS is very cool, too. many things to care about for a correct bombing run. So fun, much wow.
The DCS Viggen is the AJS37 not the AJ37 from the video dont know if they have the same computer
@@Lexus-fo3ey as far as i am aware, the CK37 was introduced with the SAAB 37 Viggen and was in there since the first variant. The AJS is just an upgreated variant of the AJ. The "S" in AJS is for Spaningsflygplan what means something like Reconnaissance aircraft translated. They took the Attack Aircraft version and gave it some ELINT systems and Sidewinder for self defense purpose to do reconnaissance missions that was done before by the SF Variant (For Ground Recon) and SH Variant (For Sea Recon). (The SF and SH Variants had special camara systems so the AJS was not capable to overtake all that stuff, it did more things like Radar detection and so). Just the JA Version is special of its kind because it had an Air-Air-Radar instead of an Air-Ground Radar. So every version had a special purpose. The SF had no Radar because the Detail-Photo Camera was in the nose, the SH had a radar with long range that was good on the ocean to find ships but was bad for wide Landscape scanning, therefor the AJ came in place for that. But all of them must have had the CK37
Just found out, the CK37 was the reason, it was possible to switch from double-seat to single-seat aircraft for attack missions because it overtook work that was done by a second pilot before in the SAAB 32 Lansen.
@@gorn1675 really interesting findings thank u for ur quick response
"Why has no one ever said to take this thing out" I dont know.. I cant remember the last time you used a viewer suggested vehicle đ
Anyone else noticed that Among Us figure on the Type 90 at about 5:37
The JA 37 does actually have a "ballistic" computer
However its not a separate piece of hardware, but rather the entire Computer control system itself
It handles EVERYTHING
From flight avionics, to payload control, fuel systems, radar and navigation. All of it in one package.
Flight crews on the airstrip feed the computer with the relevant data on payload hooked up before flight. And the computer handles the rest.
I wish they'd model the parachute the bomb is supposed to have. I couldn't find any accurate information on what the tip is.
"SprĂ€ngbomb m/71 can be configured in high-drag or low-drag configurations with an instantaneous fuse (ĂHKSAR) or an airburst fuse (ZONRĂR). The high-drag version have a chute which helps to slow the bomb down after release. The bombs come mounted on racks of 6 bombs each."
The tip is the Airburst fuse.
When the tip hits the ground the bomb detonates mid-air.
and in irl you are supposed to drop ALL of your bombs them fly away quickly and that is what Viggen was designed for :)
4:37 blast came out the barrel when you smoked that tank. Freaking cool.
An old Viggen pilot told me once that if you put the throttle to max and turn the afterburner on the fuel will only last for around 7 minutes!
The AJ37 was one of the first fighers to have an onboard digital computer. It actually do produce calculated aimsymbolism on the hud for bombs and rockets. Go look up AJS 37 in DCS if you donÂŽt belive me.
What do you mean nobody ever told!!!!!!! I commented about this months ago. Glad to see you finally take it out. Super fun.
10:22 gotta love that mouth Doppler effect! hahahaha
Love the patient play style this invokes - great combo of old school and jet tech
The bomb load is from an action movie, never runs out of ammo
since he asked what the scot tax was for the term off scot free lol "The term scot comes from the Old English word sceat, an ordinary coin in Anglo-Saxon times, equivalent to the later penny. In Anglo-Saxon times, a payment was levied locally to cover the cost of establishing drainage, and embankments, of low-lying land, and observing them to ensure they remain secure."
Great content as usual Phly
Phantastic video, thanks
Philydaily I watched all your videos and it always make my day happy and I want say thank you. And this video made my day happy again thank you.
This is a treat, im glad i saw this!
Hey Phly you should play the magach 3 you havenât played it in a while
It's a shame you can't go with a few less of these bombs and add a cannon mount. The dual 30mm would at least give it some defense against enemy aircraft.
iirc the outside pylons could mount RB-24Js as well as the inside ones irl. This would potentially open up loadouts for 2x 30mm + 4x RB-24J, or all of the current ground ordinance options + 2 RB-24Js.
This would make this thing actually viable imo. Itâs really not a fun jet to use in Ground RB when it has either has no countermeasures (when taking a useful payload) or no air-to-air capability. In actually matches, I almost always take my fighter JA-37C over my AJ-37, even for CAS, because it retains the air-to-air capabilities as well as countermeasures without sacrificing ANY ground attack ability. For example if you want to have countermeasures or guns as well as rockets on the AJ-37, you have to sacrifice two pylon of rockets. The JA-37C can mount all 4 pylons of rockets, AND 2x RB-24J, as well as countermeasures and guns. On top of this, it always brings the massively powerful Oerlikon KCA, which shreds both jets and MBTs alike with ground target belts.
I find the AJ-37 to be a bit masochistic imo, itâs just too situational. Sure itâs kinda good⊠if thereâs no spaa for the entire round and not a single enemy fighter spawns in⊠because that happens allllll the time
Love ur content man
The "spikes" are to ensure that the bomb explodes before burying itself in the ground, preventing its fragmentation from being smothered.
Fun fact, the RM8A and RM8B We have in the JA and AJ respectivly are slightly different, as the A was made to perform better at altitude since the JA was a interceptor while the B has better performace at lower altitudes, since the AJ is a attacker
Fantastic as always Phly đ
F-4c at 10.0 zuni with CCIP is so much fun, give it a try đ
Fire them as groups of 8 rockets using "ripple" button, it is like a long range shotgun đ
cant wait to see what the high drag bombs on the viggen will be like when they come out
Hey Phly, I'd totally recommend flying out the IL2 1942 (23mm) in air RB as a superiority fighter. I have been dropping regular Aces and almost never get shot down. You are more maneuverable than anything faster than you, and you are faster than anything more maneuverable, both by a pretty big margin. And there's of course, the guns, easy snipes and one shots anything out to 1.5km reliably My convergence is at 600m). Good luck, and happy Phlying.
15:14 bruh what, that was so unexpected lmaoo
Phly, you've brought back the "Everybody" intro right? Well, there has been a certain song kinda stuck _In My Head_ phor a while that you could also bring back!
Attempt # 353
The song i mean is Virtual Riot - In My Head (feat. PRXZM)
I'm glad that I started playing WT again, CZcams automatically sending me to your channel.
The AJ37 is a hidden gem. Everytime you put out a video on hidden gems Gaijoob nerfs them.
The swedes honestly have some of my favorite planes to fly. I've yet to unlock this jet myself, but for now I've yet to not have fun in any of the B18's.
Phly you should make a video with the MiG-19S it would be fun to see so since itâs a little bit complicated to play. Also the Sea Vixen would be interesting since itâs so unique
I think the needle point on the bombs is a "daisy cutter". its a long fuze head designed to make the bomb explode either closer to the top surface of the ground (Ie. without burying itself too deep in the ground first), or in the open above ground. Its a typical anti personel type fuze for clearing large groups of infantry effectively. I could be entirely wrong though, dont quote me.
nice phly !
well it looks like I'm going to play Swedish tech tree later on both ground & aviation.Thx for the review on Viggen sir
I get excited to see phly has uploaded because it gives me something to watch in the bath
Love this aircraft, Extremely capable with the rb24j and gun pod setup in air as well.
The RB34J is worthless with the buffed flares
A quite standard tactic with the viggen was to fly low and fast and use the ballistic computer that would mark the drop location of the first and last bomb to carpet a location with all of the bombs before leaving at a high speed
I have never noticed this thing has no gun until Phly went "brrrrr" tho I never really took a closer look at it
Hey phly, you should play the AM-1 Mauler.
Insane bomb and rocket load for its BR
Scot comes from the Danish (I suppose it was old norse back in the day) word "Skat" in this case meaning taxes (but it can mean other things too). It literally means tax-exempt
yes, try the french Br.693 strike fighter, 1.7 with 8 mini bombs perfect to dunk on tanks assisted by the skewered 20mm target as reference.
Its this plane but 10x less BR /2x less bombs. And you have guns. Dare you to get 8 bomb kills with it alone, + guns etc additional.
at 2:14 they are pointy like darts so you can play a round of darts with ur buddies in WT ... :)
You should play the F4C Phantom II in CAS. It has an amazing ground pounding load out and it's lower BR than this.
I have an idea what those metal extensions are for on the bombs I wonder if they're similar to an air explosive maybe they're so long that they're made to hit the ground first so the bomb detonates in the radius instead of making a hole in the ground
If you liked this one you should like the Mirage 5F since it as many bomb drops while keeping guns and magics
You should make some 6.0-6.3 Brit Tank gameplay ... its kinda pain due to everyone having some sort of APHE rounds and Brits only having solid shot.
I love the Viggens so much â€
#96 Loving the Unloved: Play the lovechild of a Spitfire and a Mustang. The beautiful MB5.
sup Phly you should do a video on the South African Concept 3.. i feel like it sucks but i gotta hear it from you xD
Phly I would love to see you team up with some friends and scout the whole enemy team while sending orbital strikes with bull pups.
Hi Phyly could u do a vid on the zero
Phly try the AMX 13. I think youâve never showcased the long barrel 75 version
Phly, please take out the JU-87 with either the 4x20mm cannons or the 12x7,92mm cannons. I have gone on air fighter role and tooken down planes before.
My 2nd favorite aircraft since I learned about it in the 80s.
I know that this is unrelated to this vid
but I have a game suggestion it is called "Regiment" it is still in early access on steam but it is really fun. It is a strategy game about NATO and The Warsaw Pack during the Cold War.
I think you would enjoy it. you most likely won't see this but at least I tried.
yeay this thing is pretty cool but if you wanna have the real supersonic bombingrun you have to try out the kfir
Would love to see some Churchill VII love at 4.7
It can survive uptiers to 5.3 Germany
that and the Centurion 5/1 are my favourite tanks :3
Phly try out the Mosquito FB Mk XBIII, it's a British duck with a 57mm cannon, at 3.0
looks almost like lawndarts ^^ maybe they stick in the tank if t hey hit directly
Hey phly could you please play the Chi-ha Kai, I'd really love to get some tips for it. Love the vids keep it up!
PhlyDaily can you pls make video on Mi-4AV?
Day 3: Phly you should play the Strv M-42 DT. It has a 3.8 second autoloader with 5 shells, the turret traverse is great, and its surprisingly survivable
Heya Phly, fourth video request, would you want to take out the Phantom II Echo with the triple m61âs to make a wall of 4 *unescapable, unfathomable, terrifying, 52.68kg/s maelstrom of absolute hell and lead?* (Day 3)
yesssssssssss
My class just left to go to snowclass just when the vid was posted
Phly, would you consider playing the TIS-MA?
thoes pointy thingies on the bombs are actually fuses... that ensures that the bomb goes off just above the surface... you see the same on motar grenades :-)
Daily could you plz show us how to turn the aircraft crosshair because I donât think you can use it in realistic map.
Nice!
I have an AV-8A because of you, and I'd like to play with you because I want to learn how to become a WT GOD.
9:17 Smigol would be very proud
Video 4- You should play galers f3f-2 it is amazing at cas, you havenât done a video on it yet, along with the m2a2
Yo phly, you should do an update video for the Yak-9T or Yak-9K, it's hilarious at it's BR
If Iâm on point the bf109f-2 can get 4 for 4 kills with the 50kg bombs in ground rb
Hey Phly can you take out the A-26B-10 and any tank you want
Love youre vidios
LOL I'm that type 90 and I was watching my squadmate in the smoke xD
maybe use the SK60B with it's RB-05a that can proximity fuze against tanks, effectively making them top attack missiles
Phly what are ur flight controls cause when u free look u can control ur plane fully with ur keyboard?
No computer on it! This was the most computerised warplane of its daysđȘ
Phly you always do top tier jets but it would be a cool change if you played low tier jets
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Mirage 5F also gets CCIP and individual bomb drops at 10.3
Might be worth looking at
"oh wait those things have missiles tho" famous last words
how do u have the cross indicator? or is that available in higher BR?
Try the A32A, itâs like this things little brother
"We dropped a good load on that bmp 2"
Phly you should make a video of you using the Kfir in air RB or Ground RB with its dual M61 Vulcan gun pods. RIP some asss please.
