Finally a podcast/show for southeast deer hunting. Ive found that a lot of deer hunting shows are from guys hunting the midwest or north and some of that stuff just doesn’t seem to apply in the southeast. (Louisiana for me). Great content guys. Thanks.
Deer will pattern you absolutely. With trail cam information 4 weeks into archery season I had to sneak in by foot almost a mile to a ladder stand. I was in the stand 2 1/2 hours before the crack of dawn. I was on a trail about 60 yards from a feeder. Because the neighbors bow hunted about 150 yards away on their property only on weekends this buck would go somewhere else not on my camera all weekend. The rut hadn’t started. I went in on a Wednesday morning, actually in the middle of night basically. He gave me a 24-25 yard perfectly broadside shot. Measured out at 156 2/8ths. It actually took 5 weeks worth of camera work for me to come up with a game plan. I went in on the Sunday before and set up the ladder. There is ranching cattle activity so the deer are used to truck traffic feeding supplements so the ladder stand setup wasn’t really invasive. I’m old school and believe in using the “Scentkiller” brand original and I sprayed everything on and around that ladder stand. I’ve used this for years and have seen some crazy stuff directly down wind from me.
@@ML-ks2lj I know we can’t kill our scent and if any critters come in down wind odds are we are busted. I honestly believe the old original scent killer has helped me kill a lot of deer because it may or must destroy some of our odors. I’ve had some strange very close encounters like under my 8’ tall tripod rubbing on the legs of the tripod. Coyotes peeing on my ladder stand legs 12 feet below me
High noon 12 mid day in the rain I've had much better luck than any other time for big bucks.. I live in an area that's high population of deer I've noticed the moon plays a big part of deer movement.. great video thanks.
Well as far as public land goes or small parcels surrounded by public i can say anyone killing tons of does BEFORE the rut or before your buck tag is punched is foolish at best....mature bucks are interested in 1 thing in the rut and if you kill 20 does then thats 20 less reasons why the buck wont be there
I agree with this 100%, y’all’s questions and his info is exactly what lead to me shooting a post rut buck in a hunting club that 3 others had missed with rifles. One had actually missed him that morning on another plot.. I asked if I could “drive through” and hunt the next biggest plot, which was the least pressured atm.. (or I was going to come in the back way) and I got the buck that afternoon. The guy who told me to “drive through” and helped me load it up, walked up to the buck with his dad and said he wanted to cry, so I asked why and he told me he had missed that same buck that morning. P.S. This was before the baiting law and the club didn’t have much browse nor acorns that year either, so the plots were in demand then.
Right now it's 107 degrees where I live in the south. Cold weather and rut seem like a distant dream.
@@Creedbunman65 yep it has been a hot one so far. But fall will be here before we know it!
It's getting colder every morning here in the Ozarks in Arkansas. It's on its way for sure

I totally agree with info shared here, echo's everything I have learned in 45 years hunting deer and elk.

We are glad you enjoyed this clip from the main interview with Dr. Bronson Strickland! Thanks for watching!
Can you explain further on your comment about moon phase playing a “big part”. What are you seeing?
Very good information. Thanks for sharing.
