She sucks. No range at all and way off pitch. Anyone could what she did there
Imagine the joy the band felt when Miley walked in the reharsal room and said, let's do a Zeppelin cover!
Then imagine the misery when they heard the janky, breathy, ill disciplined version of the song she coughed out. So disappointing, especially considering as she has such a fantastic voice for rock. The entire idea of Black Dog is that the lyrics play call and response with the guitar track, y’know like a dog with its master. No idea why she decided to try and make the meter of the lyric her own.
@norman smithers I hear this one a lot, the Janis/Tina Turner comparison, and I just don’t hear it,. Both of them had exceptional control of their audience and communication with their band, it honestly sounds like Miley’s all over the place here and the band is scrambling to catch up at points, it’s not just here either, almost every rock cover of hers I’ve heard she’s either a long way out of time or displaying frankly amateur levels of breath control. Raw, sweaty and ballsy is a style that Robert Plant could pull off on this track when he was emotionally and physically in tune with his both his band and the song, it’s not something you can get away with when you’re doing it for shits and giggles.
@norman smithers No, I wouldn’t expect either of them to be so arrogant as to assume that they could do everything in one show. They were both exceptionally good at doing what they did.
Weirdly I’d actually say a similar thing of Miley, she’s spent the last 15 years doing basically everything but they one style her voice is suited to, this most recent Album really feels settled and comfortable in a way that neither the pop princess, the country darlin’ nor the bad girl diva ever did. Midnight Sky is a triumphant statement of ability and I just hope it doesn’t stop at one album, a less polished version of that sound may well be the way to go for her. I do not, however think that she is in any way suited to songs like Black Dog, Rebel Yell, comfortably Numb or Nothing Else Matters, all of which she has butchered live.
I hope I’m wrong, I hope these are just a series of bad days at the office and that there’s great covers of rock songs that she’s done in private or which have gone unrecorded, but sadly I do just get the sense that there’s a lot of yes people in her life who tell her that this breathy, scratchy unpolished style, which plays with metre and cadence works on these songs when it clearly doesn’t.
@@charlietaylor3152 I agree 100%. I'd like to give her more credit but just can't. Songs like this are meant to be sung a certain way..as u said. Her behavior in passed performances also has me respecting her less and less. I dont know if she feels she has to do everything she can to continue to stay out of the Hannah Montana stereotype or if she's overdoing the "bad girl" image. Probably alot of both. My opinion and we have all got on..so anyone who disagrees with this..remember that it's MY opinion...the girl needs to leave other singers songs alone.

I hear ya! I had such a low opinion of Miley for .. .until maybe the last year or so. We have no idea how much of an artist is controlled by their management company or publicist. But whatever shift she made, it's really working for me, and yeah - never thought I'd be singing her praises - but I find her one of the most exiting talents on the scene in an otherwise mediocre musical landscape.

I've always had a negative opinion of miley cyrus until the past couple of days.... I did NOT realize that she had such an awesome taste in music! Her original music may not be my favorite... but honestly i might have to reevaluate it after seeing so many of her covers. She simply brings the music of another era to a new generation!!!! Her singing this only goes to prove how awesome Plant was in his heyday. But fair play to her she went for it and the band had the song nailed down.

I agree, because she actually sings quite well. A little "screamy", some overuse of vibrato perhaps. But Plant's natural raspiness, intonation, and above all driving of the dynamic of the song with his vocals, that puts him in a tier of his own.

That band is tight! I just love that she even attempts a killer Robert Plant song and does a great job. So good that she appreciates these great songs and brings them out for young people to experience!
When you’re MC you get the best session players. Session players are 100x better than other musicians, they play perfectly. They can play anything, but don’t have the drive or talent to write and perform. But still, not a bad gig. Probably making a couple hundred grand doing what they love… not many people can say that.
