I think the primary issue was (could be wrong) the direct translation is artificial human and i don't know if the Japanese language makes the distinction that the english language has made for the different types like androids cyborgs and the like

It was the abridged version that I watched that gave that series a chance for me, I wasnt going to give that series a chance when I read the premise of the series of large titans earing people. I was like 'nope' on watching it, but gave the abridged version a chance, and then I was able to watch the series.
