One of my biggest passions is universal design. I have fallen in love with the idea that there are ways to make everywhere welcoming for everyone. Today I want to talk about what it is, how it works, and ways you can use both accessible and universal design in your life. What are your favorite accessibility design ideas?

Great and very useful video.
I’ve been doing a lot of video design for my job at the University currently, and one of the big things I’ve been working to improve is subtitles on our lecture videos. They are definitely universal, as people who are sighted tend to enjoy subtitles and pausing the video and reading what it has to say at times. At the same time, someone who is deaf or hard of hearing needs them to properly access the video. I find it is one of those accommodations that can be difficult to implement, yet if I am creating a video from the ground up, I start by writing a transcript, which can also be given to students who are blind or otherwise have issues accessing the video. So it’s a great step in making the content of a video much more accessible!
I have so much more to learn about this topic, seeing as my future career will be in emergency planning for people with access and functional needs.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! Captions are so important! I wish there was a more accessible way for me to add them to my videos rather than just auto captioning. Maybe one day I’ll be able to afford someone to help me out with that.
