Holy shit bro. I have been sitting with a model for a week now trying to UV Unwrap it and every time it stretches so badly, have watched over 80 tutorials on UV Unwrapping from extremely popular Blender channels, and none of them have helped me solve this issue. hmm my scale is correct but I'm still getting strange UV issues... its a mix of correct sized UV squares and really big ones, and not all of my model is unwrapping in the EV window...

If you have the same error that I had - "edge seams may need to be added" - then you must firstly select all edges, press Ctrl+E, and click "Mark seams". Then change to face mode and now you can press "Unwrap"
