My backlog is ridiculous. I've become more of a collector then a gamer now...
Me too! My New Year’s resolution was to tone down the buying & I’m trying.. I’m now in this weird phase where I’m playing little snippets of backlog games to see what I’m good at & what I’m not.. But I seem to have 2 default games at the moment FF 16 & Last of Us 1
Happy new year Kim and Johnny. Hope 2024 is a good year to everyone
I know you have tons on your plate but Chained Echoes is something you'd love Johnny! Fantastic story, turn based combat and lots of little things to do as well. Soooo good.
Anyone else ordered the physical copy from First Press, and still haven't received our copies?
@@MTG69That's First Press for you. They're basically scam artists.
I highly recommend DQ Monsters Dark Prince. I am about 115 hours in and still going. I love that you can synthesize final boss monsters from previous DQ games like Rhapthorne and Psaro the Manslayer.
YES! Personally I think the DQM series is better than pokemon.
How’s the difficulty and end game depth/content?
Absolutely agree! Loving DQM The Dark Prince sooo much!!!
@@JimHuston66 Pokemon is not a high bar to jump in all honesty :P
I don't know if you're a fan of Jet Set Radio but I know that you LOVE the Dreamcast so I gotta say this:
Johnny, you gotta play Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. It's honestly one of the biggest sleeper hits of 2023 and it'll bring you back to the Dreamcast era with it.
I just finished this game and I second the recommendation! Love Cyberfunk's gameplay, music, graphics!
Definitely gonna second this one. Fair warning: it is more similar to Jet Set Future in scope of the world than Jet Set Radio if that helps temper expectations at all. Still solid with a great OST.
I'm about to start cyberfunk tonight
Of all things to play during Christmas I have been glued to my PSP with a massive stack of games like Crazy Taxi, Power Stone, Tekken, LittleBigPlanet, Me & My Katamari, and the list never ends.
I did get Advance Wars 1+2, Live A Live, and Triangle Strategy for Christmas though which is very exciting. Not sure when I will get to them, but I will.
You got to play Chained Echoes, great turned based throwback rpg plus there's mechs
Catching up on Wo Long, it's amazing
Just finished your last video, and here's a new one. Yes, please, and thank you.
I saw the trailer for Little Goody Two Shoes in October and thought OMG this is right up alley I love this 90s aesthetic. Sadly I also lost my job in October so I could not grab it. Really happy you are talking about it so I can learn more.
Condolences my friend for the job loss, I just can’t fathom a situation where you had to swear off even small/cheaper games altogether. I’m pretty sure Two Shoes launched at $15
I'd recommend "Baldurs Gate 3", "In Stars and Time", "Bomb Rush Cyberfunk", "Chants of Sennar", "HI-FI Rush", "Cocoon", "Lunacid", "Ugly", "Affogato" and "A Space For The Unbound" for games you two should totally play from 2023! Some well known, some not, but all very good and highly rated! Thanks for another great episode~
Just completed Lies of P on ps5. It was f'ing amazing. Probably my third favorite game from '23 after Totk and re4 remake. Now it's back to finish act 3 of bg3.
MAN, I missed out on so many titles. I got a PS5 this year from the console backlog and 2023 Its a little overwhelming in a great way!
Same here! I didn't even get a PS4 (Pro) until 3 years ago. Waiting isn't always easy, but it's worth it. You end up with a much larger library of games to play, the bugs/kinks worked out, and a MUCH better price (I picked up my PS5 Disc Edition for around $350). Loving it so far, but I'm anxiously awaiting my next paycheck, so I can pick up BG3, Shredders, and upgrade my GT7 to the PS5 version. As of right now, I'm finally playing GTA5 (I know, a little late to the party), I upgraded (for FREE!) my Star Ocean Second Story R to the PS5 version, so I'm enjoying a new game+ playthrough while I wait for my funds to replenish. Great system!
Thank you both for sharing with us. Take care.
another great video, love it when you and Kim are on together. want you two to know every time you make a video like this i have to have several tabs open to find the games you talk about to play later!
Ive recently started Octopath traveler 2, I also played 1 last year and enjoyed it.
On a metroidvania kick now. Beat Will of the Wisps. Playing Blind Forest now. Monster Boy and Hollow Knight are next
I have a feeling if Kim gave BG3 a try she would prob love it... really cant wait to hear your thoughts on it Johnny. Happy New Year!
Yeah, she should really try Baldurs Gate 3.
It'll be Fantasy Life all over again. Poor John will never see her again.
Happy New Years Johnny!
I think I have been watching for 10 years at least, thanks for the years of content.
It is pretty surreal to see you talking about a game we worked on!
The art design document for Little Goody Two Shoes is filled with games I was first introduced to by your videos!
A heartfelt thank you, and best of wishes for you and the family in the new year!
I've just finished playing Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters 1 through to 4. Having a wee break before diving back into 5 & 6 with Star Ocean Second Story R. The depth of the systems in that game felt overwhelming after coming from FF! Hoping to get through that title before Unicorn Overlord releases in March.
The Dodonpachi Daioujou ShotTriggers port is incredible. After years of not really getting Cave it finally clicked for me.
Didn't expect to see cave fans in these comments. Good luck on getting your clear!
Id highly recommend BG3 over playing starfield. Absolute game changer for me. Never even cared for turn based games until playing balders gate. What Larian Studios accomplished is incredible and you should definitely take some time out of the day to experience it.
Can't wait to play it. I'm sure he's just waiting for a physical copy like a lot of us.
I tried it. I just couldn’t get into it. The dice rolling was frustrating because it felt like I failed certain situations due to complete luck. It bothered me
I’d recommend anything over Starfield
@@saesang352yes thank you! I feel like ive been taking crazy pills every time i see praise for Starfield - a modern open world game that focused on all the wrong things!
@@christaggart5687 if you ever decide to try again consider this: in every situation where you fail a dice roll, its taking you down a path that isnt BAD, just different - you didnt FAIL, you were just denied a choice, and this new path will have rolls you couldnt have accessed if you “succeeded”
As a recommendation for both of you I still and will always recommend the Trails series of JRPG games. It is a long series that you obviously know about but I really want to hear you guys talk about it and experience it if you already didn't, especially the first entries.
Damn Johnn been watching u since I was 11 or 12 I'm 27 now and always enjoyed watching ur videos and seeing the channel grow. Thanks for being you and I hope ur holidays were good. Thank you for a dope childhood and a childlike adulthood lol.
My catch up game right now is Sea of Stars. I'm about 9 hours in.
my huge backlog that im working through is kotor 2 ( last two planets) , sonic superstars , star ocean R , sea of stars (3rd of the way) , tales of berseria ( 3rd of the way) , asterigos , forgotten city , octopath 2 , elden ring (almost half way) , ghostbusters the video game and Divinity: Original Sin 1 + 2 . i hope i get through them in 2024
Gonna check out long Gone Days guys thanks for the recommendation John. Love the show as always. Makes my day to see you two together happy game talking!!
i missed eldin ring and am now playing it. not sure if I have the skill to play all the way through but the exploration is fun!
Thank you for making these videos they really brighten my day all the best from the 🇬🇧
Hack gpu on the switch its OK 👍 graphics aren't really good but it's OK
Octotravler 2 for me. Been wanting to get to it but I’m playing sea of stars right now.
Been a fan for years. Just wanted to stop by and say that Kim gets better and better every single appearance. Have a great new year guys!
"What kind of games are you trying to get to from your backlog?"
*My Steam Catalog enters the Chat*
Lol two steam accounts. One jp. But dragon quest x offline, ai norsurge ceil norsurge. Dqx took 500 hours last year. Good times.
Baulder's Gate 3, Lies of P, Final Fantasy 16, Super Mario RPG and Alan Wake 2
Notting just watching you guys and tv and work and sleep
Little Goody Two Shows was developed here in Portugal 🎉
“Laika age thorough blood” - one of the best hidden gems of 2023
I'm so busy trying to tackle my backlog to even get to games I might have missed. Haha.
We love when Kim is on!!!!!! Little Goody Twoshoes looks adorable. Just picked it up on Switch. Looking forward to playing it!
Awesome video Johnny & Kim 😎!
Evil west, Lords of the fallen and Soulstice are great and underrated.
I missed hifi rush I heard really good things about that game
I'm playing start ocean second story r right now and it's amazing
I missed a lot of games. BG3, Mario RPG, crisis core, advance wars, Mario Wonder, persona 5 tactica, and more. And I think I am ok with that. My time is limited right now and when I gain time later, I will look back and see if I still have these on my to do list.
I just started Persona 4. I'm still catching up on games from 15+ years ago 😂
I finally msde the plunge into elden Ring and yeah... It was the right choice. Very strong gameplay.
"In Stars and Time" it's another turn based jrpg that you may like. The time loop mechanic is really addictive ahah. ;)
I'm currently playing Tales of Graces f on the PS3, but for games that actually came out last year I'd suggest Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails. It is, I believe, a remake of a PSP game, but I'd personally never heard of it so when I started seeing videos of it pop up online I was intrigued. I had a blast playing it, and thought it was a lot of fun. I think it is a game both of you would enjoy and I highly recommend it if you haven't tried it yet.
Long Gone Days is so good! I’m so glad you guys played it!
rn i'm playing Assins Creed series never played Vallaha and assins creed mirage they are both really fun and I decided i'm going to go and play every assins creed game this year.
Little Goody Two Shoes is such a gem!
There’s some incredible artwork especially in some of the later nightmare sequences. I know the townspeople talk a lot about similar topics but impressively there is actually never ANY repeated dialogue for the whole game.
Also fwiw I played on PS5 and had no technical problems like you guys unfortunately had.
Apart from Starfield I hadn't heard of any of these games. Thank you both very much.
Playing The Centennial Case - a Shjima story. Amazing!
STILL chugging through FF16 for the platinum + going to go through the DLC! Didn't give myself as much gamer time as I wish I did last year, but I plan on letting myself have a bit more fun and chug through the rest of my backlog!
Awesome game! Got lots of exciting things to pick up here in a few weeks. Prince of Persia, Persona 3, Yakuza, Granblue, FFVII Rebirth, the list goes on. Get ready!
I've been playing etrian odyssey HD. all i wanna do is beat it, its scratching that itch that im having rn
Happy Sunday 😎✌️
I really need to get to
Lies of P & Wo Long
I am just now finishing Little Goody Two Shoes. It's amazing. If you are not too much into the dialogue, then it might miss you but the game shines brightest when you go and exhaust each dialogue option every time and soak the story.
As for games I missed but I will soon get to play, that would be Void Stranger and Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out.
During the Starfield discussion, Kim was kind of like Flava Flav to Johnny's Chuck D, interjecting phrases restating the same sentiment.
I would like to attend a turn-based Public Enemy party with Johnny and the gang.
Kim you should play Blue Reflection second light (not the first one)
Awesome video!
Quick question if anyone can help me with:
Did Johnny ever make a video about how or where he and Kim met? They look like a happy family so I was wondering how they got their start together!
Thank you again Johnny and Kim for another awesome video 😁
Long Gone Days is great! So glad you were able to discover it!
Cool variety. I’m super late to the party but am trying CrossCode after a lot of friends recommended it.
Regarding RPGs, I’m still curious about Fate/Samurai and Monochrome Mobius.
Happy New Year to you both!
I've finally started Octopath Traveler 2 and it's so much better than the first one. I didn't think it's possible, but the music is even better than in the first one (and it's one of my favorite soundtracks). Graphics, story structure, stories themselves, battle system, everything has been improved. I just can't stop playing.
I'm about have way through the first one. I'm really enjoying it.
I got the second one for Christmas.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New! I am curious about your thoughts on the disappearance of physical media? The recent event of BB removing physical media and other retail may follow their lead.
Ive been enamoured with Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader the past couple weeks - Owlcat Games puts so much love into their CRPGs and this setting is just so delicious, dark, and disturbing!
I’ve played it a bit i can tell it’s a great game when i get into it but having a little trouble getting familiar with all the mechanics and terminology, pathfinder was a lot easier to me since it’s so adjacent to dnd
World of Horror reminded me of the following recommendations sitting on my pile (older than 2023). I may be a little late to the party with these, but as a fellow old-school PS1-era survival horror fan, Johnny, you HAVE to check out Tormented Souls and Signalis if you have not already.
Tormented Souls - tank controls, static camera, puzzles and limited weapons. Aesthetically: Clock Tower and Silent Hill
Signalis - The Thing meets Parasite Eve and Silent Hill. Top-down view, limited ammo, sci-fi theming, and amazing storytelling all done by an indie team of 2 people!
I started playing world of horror few days ago and i absolutely love it, i’ve beaten a few runs but i can’t put it down, highly recommended
I just got Hi Fi Rush in at the end of the year. Happy I got it in. Now I'm playing Puzzle Bobble Every Bubble, I think that came out in March '23.
Never heard of any of these games, love this episode!
Please play Ruiner if you haven't already. The art alone seems to be right up your alley.
I just started playing Aliens Dark Descent a few days ago. Loving it so far.
Ghost Trick! Loving it 😍
I think you might have missed Raincode which was in my Top 5 last year.
Happy 2024!! Goody two shoes looks amazing! Def will buy that for the switch😇👌🏻
My big surprises over the Holliday were the quake and quake 2 switch ports. Machine games made a new campaign for each game in their down time and both of the them are absolute masterclasses in level and encounter design. And the new campaigns are just included in the ports for free hidden away in a sub menu
right now I am playing Legend of Nayuta Boundless Trails, pretty good, reminds me of Ys mixed with level based platformers like Kirby or Yoshi with collectibles and challenges within them and also has a way to switch weather having each level have different versions. Good game.
Sorry if I've missed it, but has Johnny played Baldur's Gate 3? I know he's a huge DND fan.
Not yet I think he is waiting on the physical release and will do a whole video on it.
I'm a bit shocked that you haven't played baldurs gate 3 yet. It beat out TOTK for game of the year, and combines 2 of your very favorite things. Whats the hold up on a baldurs gate 3 review?
What's the rush?
Catching up on Ghost Runner 2
I have just started playing Star Wars Jedi survivor because I was able to pick it up for ~$30 in a Boxing Day sale and if it is anything like fallen order, I will be very excited to collect a platinum trophy once I have a little bit of free time to spend on the game.
I missed about half the games of 2023, mainly because I still have yet to get a PS5 and an Xbox Series so I missed out on those. I really enjoyed the big Switch game last year. Hope to rectify that this year...
Long time no see, Kim, have a good year everyone 🎮
How about a top 5 (or 10) list of games that a certain point in game play that u have the best (and/or worst) memory. Like a boss battle that frustrated u…or a level completion that u have a distinct memory of..etc..etc. It could even something as simple of buying a game u been trying to get. Basically unique gaming memories good or bad.
Little goody two shoes looks fun and is on switch too. Load times sound a shame as load time put me off outbound ghost around two hours in.
Got a GameCube for Christmas. Currently playing windwaker lol and also Mario RPG on switch!
Has Kim played Scarlet Nexus? I think that would be her style of game.
Little Goodie Two Shoes was a fun time last year and released on Halloween, but I was disappointed in the story and ultimately did not ever finish the game.
Edit: I really agree with Kim when she says that the game is different, and that it is fun to pick up something different and give it a go from time to time.
I’m currently playing a game I missed out on, Master Detective Archives Rain Code. It’s great! I can’t believe it took me so long. Wish I could have snagged a physical copy though.
im still catching up on games from 10 years ago or more. im still working on TOTK wich is my favorite game of 23 by far ill wisper that its my favorite game of all time but thats so hard to say loudly im also working on BG3
Boss lady knows best 😅. Glad you've been able to check out some 2023 titles over holidays. What an incredible year for gaming.
Another great video with both of you Kim and Johnny. I’m currently getting through Hogwarts Legacy and Sea of Stars. A game I missed that I want to pick up is Robocop Rogue City. It would be awesome to hear what you think about the game too. Thank you for the long days gone reco too. I put it in my wishlist on Steam. I might pick up Harvestella later this year too. Too many games to play and Hogwarts has got me doing everything in it, so good. Anyways take care and keep it up.
I recommend The Bunny Graveyard, a very nice looking but strange game, it currently has part 1 out
Picked up Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince and Legend of Nayuta Boundless Trails. Been playing both like crazy
Wow The Manhole was one of the first CD-ROM games I ever played. That's really you mentioned such a niche title like that.
Little Goody Two shoes is so good really enjoying it!!
Johnny wish ur videos were like a half hour always enjoy them on car rides another greatone ! An my biggest missed game is ff16 I don't have a PS5 yet !
Johnny is definitely on the short list of youtubers I want to meet.
Finally going to jump into Baldur's Gate 3 soon. Grabbed a physical copy from Play-asia.
Also got Robocop for Christmas. I'm excited to play it.
I'm playing Bloodstained at the moment. It's pretty cool. And I was wondering if you had heard of a smaller game called Beholgar? Also, I know it's a massive undertaking. But the Trails series. I have only played Trails in the Sky 1, and Cold Steel 1 & 2, but am playing Sky 2 and CS 3, and the more you play them, the more rewarding.
I also have a schedule just to attempt to get through my backlog. Not really playing many modern games but Tears of the Kingdom will make it in this spring.
Happy new year!
I feel the same way about Starfield. When it released I put about 10-15 hours in, felt overwhelmed with how much was happening at the time to commit to such a massive universe game, and shelved it. I marveled at most of what I did play. Definitely going to come back probably later this year when the DLC is out to take a much bigger bite.
As for right now, finally played through FF7 Remake in anticipation for Rebirth, then dove into Elden Ring for the first time this morning. Lastly this year I’ll be continuing my play-through of the Yakuza series, another first. I’m on 4, so hoping to get at least caught up by 2025 (6 more to go!).
You and Kim should do Baldur's Gate co-op
