On Friday, the pageantry of Super Stock class eliminations hits its highest crescendo with the Dodge Hemi Shootout, a battle of 426-inch Hemis and Darts to determine the top of the food chain amongst Super Stock cars. This year there's 19 of these historic and unique race machines set to do battle for the prestige, honor and $15,000 prize for being the best.

To me the highlight of the U.S. Nationals in recent years, I haven't missed a Friday at the Nats in a long time ...just to see these awesome factory racers run.

It may sound weird but if I ever won the lottery, this is the class I’d run. Forget fuel cars and pro stock. I love all the fiddling around inside the rules etc. I’m not even a Mopar guy.

What's with the front end wobble on these mopars when the wheels contact the ground after launch?
That's just a thing with narrow front tires, tons of power, the weight of the engine and the violent power as the wheels return to the tarmac and the car, with drag race caster settings.

I’ve seen it on all cars not all the time gm and ford are no different I’ve seen them wobble also but they don’t get the same air as the mopars if you know what I’m getting at

Whoever put this together needs to keep the track audio turned up. I want to hear the cars, not the announcer.
Whoever recorded this or filmed it ABSOLUTELY needs a lesson on how to plan out catch the trap instead of cars so we can see the times and not the race who can tell anything without seeing times and win lights

Dude you need too research your late 60's super/stock racing, Bill Jinkens Chevy Camaro kicked there asses in 67' 68' & 69' and as the announcer said only 50 of the Cudas were built that was not street legal.

Um.....no.......that's the tale told by people who either weren't there or they have bought into silly stories of re-written history. The unvarnished truth? The 426 Hemi was NOT the track dominator you seem to want to believe it was. The engine under the hood is but one piece of a puzzle. Ford and Chevy both brought engines and cars fully capable of running with any Hemi Car. The smart money was almost never on a Chrysler to win. Sheer #s was the problem. Chrysler was a REALLY DISTANT #3 in the 3 way race for sales back in the day. Any one Hemi car at the strip was up against many Fords and Chevy's. If you saw any Chrysler making it to the finals and then winning that final race.......you were seeing a car and driver who over came a serious disadvantage in the numbers.
Dogboy1960 .....the history books & the record books disagree with you. Grumpys 67/8/9 camaro's were NOT successful racing against the Hemi cars. Only after adding weight to the Hemi cars did the Chevy start winning on a regular basis in 72. Sox & martin OWNED super stock in 69/70/71
Why is there hardly anyone in the stands you would think they would have been packed for the Mopar challenge

Research NHRA rules for SS/AH cars. Make sure to read about their induction. These carburetors are 50+ year old technology

@@G55STEYR These used to be designated SS/A(A) the second A was for Automatic cars, but NHRA threw the auto and 4-speeds together in one class SS/AH (H for Hemi) the only cars that fit this class are the '68 Hemi Darts and Barracudas. Super Stock A-Hemi SSAH
I like autos with manuals in the same class, to see how they compare. I watched this one 6 times or so :)
@@G55STEYR Yes it was great to include the 3 pedal folks with everyone else as Charlie and a few others were really starting to go fast and the competition level was great
I love how these mopar guys are bragging on how fast these hemi's are. In NHRA Prostock the Wayne County Speed Shop was banned for life because they had to cheat to beat Bob Glidden and Warren Johnson. Then they staged break in and false flagged themselves to blame Warren Johnson which was shooting themselves in the foot. You wont ever see the names Scott Geoffrion and Darrell Alderman in NHRA again. Geoffrion died of a heart attack in 2006 and Darrell Alderman died in 2007 when he faded off into the sunset. Mopar faster than Ford and Chevy (or Oldsmobile at the time) yea only when they cheat.

my 66 Chevy II runs as fast or faster than these Hemi's. The only reason this kid is undefeated is because he has the fastest car at the track.
