- James Daniels, for the second consecutive season, will leave the NHRA U.S. Nationals $15,000 richer.
Daniels, behind the wheel of the Ray Barton-themed Dodge Dart, used a .01 reaction and an 8.404 elapsed time to beat Wendell Howes, who spun the tires at the hit and coasted through the lights at 9.923 seconds.
With the win, Daniels further added to the family legacy in the event started by his father, Jim, who claimed victory in 2010.
"It's an unbelievable experience," Daniels said of winning the Mopar HEMI Challenge for the second consecutive year. "I can't describe it."

Herb is my hero- I called in 1996 to ask for help in installing duel trigger ignition on my hemi, he not only helped- he sent diagrams and the switches (no charge) needed to make it all work- and it did, thank you Herb. maybe he forgot to send and invoice?

Wow how sad! All the people who miss that kind of dragracing. Here in California with only a few dragways, makes me pissed that a dragrace of elephant proportions can not be held in California because most Dragstrips are all being torn down! Iriwndale dragways will be closed next year 2018 feb. and it's way out there n the boonies from L.A. about fortyfve minutes from L.A. off the 605 frwy.Even though it's an 1/8 mile we settled for it cause there's no more local Dragstrips! What happened to the California dream were one could see anything? No more.

@@loyalamerican8776 Three main reasons the tracks closed: 1) Poor economy- which made the sport too expensive for mom & pop and required the big guys to get sponsors 2) Poor safety controls at tracks 3) Urban sprawl that led to noise complaints and shutdowns. And all three of these are the work of those liberal Democrats and minorities . Oh, they're not? Oh, well, uh.....But it sounded so good! And I thought all the problems in this country were caused by liberal Democrats and minorities? Oh, it's not that simple? Well, that really hurts my brain to think that things might be more complex. Say it ain't so, Joe! We need to put a stop to any problem that can't be blamed on liberal Democrats and minorities! (P. S.- you sound like a Russian bot to me.)
