    I usually like setting the pop-out at 50% with depth always at max, but I change the pop-out depending on how much ghosting there is. I mostly notice ghosting happening in contrasty areas.

      Thanks for this video, I don't believe there is anything else on YT about this tech in a detailed form like this.
      I have a big collection of 3d movies blu rays and .iso mkv files... I use power dvd 19 and ps3 ps4 to play them in 3d.
      Can you use this 3d tech to watch 3d blu rays and or backup files on pc?
      Also when you do the gaming aspect of this tec... is there a significant hit to performance when playing in 3d?
      For example the tomb raider games in 3d were much harder on the cpu and ram when playing in 3d on an nvidia 3dvision setup.

    I assume that Vudu is also blocked due to DRM - please confirm at your convenience. Is there anyway to save converted videos for playing on other devices, or editing out disparities ?
    Finally - please give the "this video is avail in 3D on my other channel" announcement at the START, not the END of the video.
    Thanks again for all you do to review these devices for the community of 3D lovers.

      I'll look into Vudu! I didn't think to try it yet. On this laptop there doesn't seem to be any way to save converted videos. It only works in real time as you watch. Noted about the announcement

    • @josh_3D
      @josh_3D  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching! There is still some artifact and choppiness that results from the conversion, but it can be done in real time for pretty much any video that doesn't block it, like Netflix or other paid streaming services. Personally I like the results, but I hope to see it improve over time. I do plan to make more videos showing this feature in greater detail and comparing conversion on different devices

    You implied that the 2D/3D conversion on the laptop is in some sense "better" than the 2D/3D conversion on the Lume Pad 2. Is there a different level or type of "conversion artifacts" on one device vs the other? I assume that they are using exactly the same conversion software since they have a business relationship. TrueGames isn't much of an incentive for the laptop now that we have UEVR. Also, I think you said on another video that the 3D screen is better on the laptop than the Lume Pad. Besides being bigger, is it higher resolution? I need a really good excuse to buy that expensive laptop. My plan is to just connect the Lume Pad 2 to one of those new 27 inch 4K 3D monitors that you mentioned and skip the laptop.

    • @josh_3D
      @josh_3D  Před 3 měsíci

      I think I'll do a direct comparison at some point, but I wouldn't say its better. I think the quality of the actual Lume Pad 2 conversion overall is better and doesn't seem to use the same technology. I think the ACER laptop is tech that was developed on ACER's end or supported by Dimenco, not the same as what Leia has been using. You can see more real proportions and depth overall with Leia's conversion, but the advantage of the Spatial Labs laptops is less cross talk much greater brightness. However there is less stability when things move quickly or the image pans to the side for example. I used to feel that the Lume Pad 2 was much better, but I think that ACER has updated and slightly improved the quality of the conversion and that the update last fall to LeiaTube added auto-reconvergence which actually made the output quality feel less smooth (probably because it is working harder to both convert and adjust convergence in real time) and it also makes the image noticeably move in and out of the screen as you watch which is distracting to me. This change prevents significant pop out from happening to limit crosstalk, but to me it lessens the level of immersion. I actually prefer more pop-out even with mild cross-talk over everything being dragged back to the level of the screen.

    • @stephenbard1590
      @stephenbard1590 Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for the comparison. I think the Lume Pad conversion is amazing with a few "edge" artifacts, but all of the conversion softwares have different artifacts. Supposedly the Owl3D software for your PC is the best, but I have trouble seeing the differences. The Owl3D takes many hours to process, but it has a bunch of settings that allow you to more precisely control the results (and they have an active Discord). So the screen is brighter on the laptop, but is it higher resolution in the 3D mode? The Lume Pad 2 resolution is cut in half when it switches from 2D to 3D and much dimmer (but still great), so does the laptop screen do that? I have noticed that the whole Lume Pad gets very hot when it is in the 3D mode but not in the 2D!@@josh_3D

      Thanks for saying this. When I first got my Lume Pad 1 two years ago I looked for a channel like this, and it didn't exist. So I made the channel I would have wanted. Any half or full side by side format video file you have can be viewed in 3D on the laptop and the quality of the 3D is very high. I haven't monitored exact performance during gaming, but I can hear the laptop working full throttle when running AAA titles in 3D. But I barely if at all notice any stuttering. Even if there are slight performance drops here and there, it looks and feels absolutely incredible to play, so I think it is more than worth it. But yes, I think it does push the hardware more running in 3D. My Laptop is the ACER Helios 300, which isn't quite as powerful as the Helios 15 Spatial Labs Edition, so I think the newer ones should have even better performance.

      @@josh_3D @josh_3D thanks for the reply and I appreciate you starting this channel. In my opinion 3D is more impactful than hdr or 4k. 3d blurays usually use frame packed format, do you know if that works with spatiallabs? Usually SBS 3d isn't as crisp as proper frame packed 3d.
      Excited to see more content on this tech and can't wait to get the view 27 monitor when available.
      If you can get it to work, try the trine games in 3d, one of my all time favorite gaming experiences ever.

    Wonder if Josh has investigated why Asus has not yet released either of its 2 new 3D ProArt laptops, which have been advertised for about a year now but are still not available to buy. Both seem to have excellent specs. Any comments ?

    • @josh_3D
      @josh_3D  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I've tried to figure this out, but not exactly sure why. In a recent tweet by the head of product at Leia Inc responding to someone asking a question like this basically said "then make sure to let ASUS know that you want it!". Which makes me think ASUS is hesitating to release it because they may be concerned there isn't a large enough audience interested in a product like that yet. I don't know for sure, but this could be a factor. And I suppose people like us reaching out to ASUS and telling them telling them that we want to see the laptop released could help

      Asus don't seem to want to be contacted. I have tried and failed. Great pity !

      @@DanielMazz The 2D to 3D conversion pop-out level seems to be limited to a couple inches off the screen at most, it won't come way out. When you watch native 3D videos or look at 3D models and things like that, the 3D can easily come half way between your screen and your eyes, if you really push the limits it can get within 6-7 inches of your eyes, maybe even closer. But just like real life if it starts to get close you need to strain your eyes to focus on something that close, just like holding a finger up 4 inches away from your eyes and looking at it. Maybe in the future 2D to 3D conversion will support more pop-out. The display can definitely handle it, I just think the conversion technology needs to become more advanced to take advantage of the level of pop-out that is actually possible
