    I've rewatched videos from the series. I'm not even British. I'm Irish, but the parallels are there. I've got a good job, a home of my own, a pregnant wife, two amazing kids, but I can't shake the sense that there's so much wrong outside my bubble and I need to be better informed and start giving my time and energy to making things better for all. Thank you for this series and the introspection you've given me and many others like me who haven't been hard done by, but need to see those that have to know things need changing.

    Hi John and the team. I’ve been following your videos since I was 15 and is the sole reason why I chose politics and sociology as a degree which I started in 2017 and just finished. I can’t thank you enough for all these videos, every time they come out they inspire me about understanding the mundane which can teach us so much about the politics of the day. Please just keep produce these videos maybe focus on micro communities such as traditional market spaces vs newer trendier spaces and see how spaces compare. Also if there’s anyway to get involved. I’d love too, I honestly think this style of journalism is the best way to have debate and understand discourse. Please keep going. It will be interesting to understand urban spaces in a post covid world.

    Honestly the Labour party needs to drop the obsession with identity politics. In the post-recession era there was golden opportunity to shift economic policies left in a way that would have been impactful. This opportunity has been squadered. The country is full of people who don't want to be voting Tory but feel unrepresented by the Labour party. This has all played in to the Conservatives hands.

    One of the most important Vox Pop series since the time you started. It holds a mirror up to the nation like few others do. This may be because you go out to the places and allow the 'stories' to come to you. John Harris and John Domokos richly deserve the Orwell Prize and I hope the Guardian will continue to support this project.

    And as for where to go next, it'll be interesting to cover those places which will be most impacted by post-pandemic social trends like working from home and reduced international travel. Luton, Slough, and Crawley for example - where a fall in long distance commuting and trouble in aviation will have the biggest effects. And while I know it's called Anywhere but Westminster, what happens to Central London in the next year or two could be fascinating.

The advanced skills required is beyond too many people and at the same time the "normal" jobs and "simple" jobs are paid badly or automated away. There is no turning back this "progress" and no real solution. What does one do if a large portion of the population becomes economically obsolete or a drain?

    British people have a lot of insecurities, and that is a surprise given UK history, heritage and the cultural influence that has on the world.

    I love how influencers like mr beast has millions of views in DAYS because he just throws money around but this won't get 100k or any help from the likes of him. Make a movement, change the world. It can happen.

    The modern Conservative Party has its ideological roots in 2 key human experiences: that is the boarding school, and also that of inheriting substantial wealth. Boarding school inflicts a deep trauma on a young mind and teaches the child that love is not guaranteed, and consequently should not be expected. Inherited wealth confers a strong sense of entitlement, superiority and covetousness.
    And there you have the last decade of shredding the social safety net, the grim acceptance of the term "in-work poverty" and "gig economy", the exponential rise of the food bank, and the subsequent hollowing out of communities up and down the country. What calibre of psyche could look upon that legacy and call it an achievement but the deeply scarred child abandoned by their parents and yet insulated by an enormous trust fund?
    Callous, clueless and conceited. And another 'C' word, too.

    Why is the Guardian so against Scottish independence? I thought you would be on the side of the left-wing SNP and Greens?

    • @boboboborific
      @boboboborific Před 2 lety

      There are 2 reasons; firstly, the SNP do want to remove part of the nation. Second, if they do, Tory hegemony is guaranteed. I am a unionist in terms of outcome, but if I was Scottish I would probably vote SNP to get rid of the tories. Are the SNP great though? No. They are quite a corrupt and greasy band. I think after the nationalist unity unwinds the conventional political dynamics would occur as well. But the tories are remarkably awful
