    The Euro Tackle Livespoon is my #1. The downside is it's plastic and isn't going to last forever, but man does it catch fish like _crazy._
    The Little Cleo is my second. I need more colors in that one.
    Kastmasters I really haven't had much luck with, but I keep throwing them.

  • @Porsche_911_Experience

    Just picked up both sizes of your #1 pick because of this vidoe and then landed a huge pike on the second cast. Thanks

    Yeah I'm on Vancouver Island and catch the biggest trout in Langford Lake just outside Victoria. Grew up on it so it's not a fair fight. Forgot how much fun spinning gear is. Still drag a fly line on one side but spin on other. My challenge is to catch on spoons f,lat fish(plugs), spinners power bait rapalas ect. Going to try old mother of pearl vintage. Have fun.

    That swedish one is actually a icefishing lure called "pirk" We use them mainly for targeting perch.

    I’ll have to try out some little Cleo’s this year. My current favorite is the Thomas Rough Rider in bronze/silver. 1/5 oz and they cast great. Have you seen or tried the Kastmaster with the buck tail hook? I was throwing one the other day, didn’t catch squat, but they look awesome in the water. The action the kastmaster puts on the buck tail it really looks like a minnow swimming through the water.

      There's so many damn lures to buy I think a person could come up with a billion combinations of the best spoon list. Those Rough Rider spoons look amazing! I have seen those Kastmasters but I haven't used one. Time to drop $$$. I want to do a yearly Best Spinner/Spoon video.. gonna be expensive haha 😄

    Great! Now I gotta buy a red and gold Cleo.... I've had good luck with blue/silver and purple/gold but haven't tried the red/gold. Thanks for costing me more money, lol. Appreciate the video, can't argue with any of those choices. Where do Jake's Spin-A-lure's fit in?

    • @CascadeBackcountry
      @CascadeBackcountry  Před 3 lety +1

      I have one of those Jake's Spin-A-Lure style lures that I just haven't had that much success with and therefore haven't really used them that much. I do intend to do a yearly "best spoons" video soooo... maybe they'll make the list next year after I try them out again. Always another fishing thing to buy! haha Thanks for watching 😀

    I fish for trout and plan to try spoons this year. Do you prefer 1/3 oz Little Cleos as a general-purpose size for West Coast lakes? Or would 1/4 oz or 1/5 oz be a better general-purpose size?

    • @CascadeBackcountry
      @CascadeBackcountry  Před 2 lety +2

      Great question! My two go to are the 1/3 and 1/4 and I almost always carry both with me. If I'm fishing a lake where I know there's bigger fish, I'll use the 1/3. If I'm fishing a high elevation lake, I'd be more like to use the 1/5. If I strictly fished lowland lakes with average size trout and I had to chose one... I'd probably chose the 1/4. Hope that helps!

    I have been looking absolutely everywhere for those silver rainbow trout pattern thomas spoons. The one with silver instead of green, may i ask where on earth did you find that??? Thought i was crazy my grandfather left me two of them and i swear its the best lure out there but so hard to find.

  • @dang9269

    I'm currently fishing a fast moving stream for brown trout which is quite weed ridden and shallow. Caught 1 big trout on a spinner but get snagged often due to the treble hook. Would a spoon work better? Single hook obviously? Would grayling go for these aswell?

    • @CascadeBackcountry
      @CascadeBackcountry  Před rokem

      I think spinner or spoon work about equally as well for trout. I ALWAYS remove treble hook in favor of a single hook. There's only one spot in WA I'm aware that has grayling and it's a high mountain lake. Unless... you're not in Washington haha I would think grayling would totally go after a spinner or spoon tho!

    What weight kastmaster would you throw in slow water from the bank?

    • @CascadeBackcountry
      @CascadeBackcountry  Před 2 lety

      If I'm fishing a lake I usually start with a 1/3 oz. I'll go down if I know the fish are small tho but that's a great size to start with

    • @learningtofish7036
      @learningtofish7036 Před 2 lety

      @@CascadeBackcountry i don't see 1/3 oz available at acme website, do you mean 3/8?

    • @CascadeBackcountry
      @CascadeBackcountry  Před 2 lety +1

      I believe 3/8 is negligibly bigger than 1/3. So it should be a good starting point :)

    • @learningtofish7036
      @learningtofish7036 Před 2 lety

      @@CascadeBackcountry so then we would be starting off faster especially if we want to avoid hanging up on the bottom due to faster sink rate. Then if our fish are not chasing we slow down with 1/4, then, 1/8 in our search for the first bite?

    • @CascadeBackcountry
      @CascadeBackcountry  Před 2 lety

      I think you're on to a great strategy! The best way is gonna be to get out there and get some gear in the water and just start fishing. I will definitely vary my tackle size selection based on water depth, the size of the lake and how big I think (or know) the fish are. I will also try different retrieval speeds. So just get out there with some different spinners and spoons and start casting. I bet you'll figure out faster than you think :)

      I take off the triple hook and keep a split ring on all my spinners and spoons. That way I can put a single barbless hook on appropriate to the size and fish I'll be targeting
