  • @yhcnoR
    @yhcnoR Před 3 lety +7

    I recommend using a barrel swivel attached to the split ring on the bill. You get the same action, but when you’re using 2-6 lb line you don’t have to worry about the edge of your split ring cutting the line. Up the line about 10 inches I use another barrel swivel for added action. No split shot should be needed. Like panther Martin spinners. A number 2 means 2lb line number 4 is 4lb line and so on so forth. Use the right diameter line with the right size lure and you cast like a dream.

  • @DitchingTheSpotlightPodcast

    I use a silver original floating minnow. I have caught a few trout off of it, but it absolutely slays bass and perch. I tie the line directly to the loop on the lure with a barrel swivel about 3 feet from it. I'm definitely going to give the countdown lure a try because the floating minnow can be a challenge to cast far out. Great video!!!

  • @leomortimer2565

    Great video! I love Rapala. For some reason, I find that the 1 1/2" rapalas have a tendency to tangle when casting so I've moved up to the 2" size in floater and sinking size. If it's windy, I find moving up to the 2 3/4" floater casts a little better. The sinking rapala are probably better in lake and rivers but I think for fishing streams and creeks of switching over to Rapala's ultra light minnow instead. I've been hearing good things about them. Their suppose to be slower sinking thus should help prevent snags.

    • @humblehombre9904
      @humblehombre9904 Před rokem

      A little tip to prevent that tangle in all lures, is to slow the lure during cast just a foot or two before it lands, then the lure will be turned in the air so the knot is towards you. It straightens it.

    Countdown 5 or 7, brown trout color or rainbow trout for natural color. Also bright orange or blue if I want a bright not natural (depends on the day).
    I even use countdown in shallower water (instead of floating). Just retrieve them before they have a chance to sink. They weigh more and are easier to cast.

    For me, I started using Rapalas for bass. My local pond was heavily pressured with everyone throwing soft plastics which the fish had come to recognize and generally avoid. Trying something different I found they loved the original floating Rapala. I used to turn up, catch 5 or 6 smallish bass and leave while everyone else throwing soft plastics hadn't gotten a single bite.

    When fishing in Rivers and Streams, the small Rapala that looks like a Rainbow trout works the best for me. But my go-to river and stream lure is the Mepps #2. Fishing the Chattahoochee, Mepps #2 is champ as far as my experience. When bank fishing on the Chattahoochee (where legal) using nightcrawlers are king. When wading and drift fishing (where legal) drifting red wigglers are King.

    I have gotten one trout on a rapala countdown but in p&t "ponds" on premieres people mostly fish with powerbaits on weighted hooks & floats. Boring way to fish but it catches more trout if they've been intrpduced just recently.

    The split ring actually interferes with the action on those floating units, especially the little ones. Also, where you tie onto the little solid eye makes a huge difference. If you slide yer knot on to the top of the loop, it will run the lure higher. Also you can adjust your knot to the left or the right to cause the lure to finesse to one side or tother. I would never add a split ring to a floating lure.

      Most Rapala lures are ment for a Rapala Knott which you can use with or without a splitring.

    Do the floating original and the jointed rapala do the same thing or should I get both of them

    Good vid. But bro, rule 101 dont tie directly to a split ring. Use a solid ring to tie to, then you can change out your lures easily and securely

    Great video! You can skip the split ring, and tie a rapala knot tho. Less waste.

    Other similar lures coming out of Finland are from Nils Master, Karikko and Jesse for example, they are almost even more popular than rapala in Finland now. Absolute beasts at catching fish, especially pike, perch and zander. I bet they are not sold in NA but if you can find some, buy them!

    A cd-7 is the only one to use on a river. Put a dropper on it with about 10 inches of line add a black wooly bugger and it gets even better. Been doing this for 40 years , so it is tried and true.
