    A tip for repeat use of screw holes in plastic. When you screw in the second time (and subsequent times) start by screwing backwards until you feel the old thread, this will prevent creating another thread and stripping the old one.

    3d printed 1U or 2U rack "computer" with tons of hotswap disk ports would be "a thing"!

    Nice video, but I would have loved to see a 3D printed case which could bolt behind the monitor in the VESA screw holes

    This is really cool! I'm working through a custom 3D printed case design as well and it is great seeing these types of projects get the coverage they deserve!

      The reason that 3D printed cases aren't as common is there are some inherent issues. It all comes down to grounding. The components in your PC are very susceptible to interference and power spikes, a metal PC case forms a Faraday cage creating a barrier between any interference on the outside and the inside, if you look at cases from HP and Asus that have glass windows they have a special coating and are grounded to the case. If you open up an old plastic laptop you will see a silver paint on the inside, this forms the conductive layer as the case being plastic is not conductive. The other issue you have (less so with ABS) is that blowing air across plastic parts can generate static electricity, it can build up an arc across to sensitive components. Finally electrical safety (regulations will vary country to country) unlike a laptop power supply a PC power supply is not double insulated. In the event of an accident you want the PC case to form a nice big path back to earth so it goes through the case and not you.

    I often wondered about doing something like a full custom case with direct air flow etc. optimum pc recently did a case with 3d print stuff to direct airflow. Back in the day they used to focus air with tubes etc then they stopped.
    The custom case stuff or airflow path optimization is something Puget systems could/ should get into…

    Very cool design and a fun project. I wonder if it would be worth retrying the ABS/ASA prints in the summer or maybe try an ASA filament that claims low warpage like Formfutura ApolloX.

    • @Smokinjoewhite
      @Smokinjoewhite Před 4 měsíci

      I have been using printables since way before the rebrand to print on my many non prusa printers. They rebranded away from PrusaPrinters specifically to change the perception that it was just for Prusa printers.

    • @patheticpuma
      @patheticpuma Před 4 měsíci

      Are you one of the elitists who only print printables files on a Prusa, thingiverse files on an ultimaker, creality cloud files on an ender 3? If so, we're not worthy 😂.
