The brilliance of not revealing Darcy until the confession confrontation is just *chefs kiss.* It fits perfectly with the themes of the book. It’s LIZZIE’S view point. Her personal prejudice against him that leads to her narrow and finite opinion. Only the guilt from this confrontation opens her eyes to how subjective her viewpoint can be. Keeping US from being able to have our own perspective of him until Lizzie is forced to start reevaluating is such a fantastic way to convey what the narration covers in the book.

Yes, but then he completely ignores her answer, he's trying to be compassionate but actually he's a complete arse (at least in this scene).
He's trying to do some grand, romantic gesture, but barely notices she's in a lot of emotional distress and now really isn't the time, despite the fact that she literally says so.
Yeah, he’s been in town for at least a week, she says this is the worst possible time, and he ignores her and proceeds to unload on her.......God is that hot!
Can we just stop and appreciate the look on Lizzie's face at the end when she realises what she has just said to Darcy. Clear that despite the fact that she doesn't like him (at this point) she still doesn't want him to see how badly she has portrayed him.

i still remember being on tumblr when this video first came out- we called it 'darcy day' and we all were screaming and gif-ing and crying all over the place and even now when i rewatch them i freak out whenever darcy comes on :)
Five years after this comment and I still remember it too! For a year, twice a week it was tradition for my friends and I to find a corner in the university student center and crowd around a laptop to watch the newest upload during our lunch hour. I still vividly remember watching episode 59 and this one. Having to wait days in between, the suspense killed us!

Personally, I always thought Lizzie was way too hung up on Darcy's checklist. It was an indication of just how much she was attracted, albeit subconsciously, to him since she was so offended she could never live up to it.
AH SHIT....we all know she's subconsciously attracted to him, but I've never thought of the list like that! BOOM
Okay I'm aware you made this comment 5 years ago, but I gotta say this: if any man has a checklist for what a woman SHOULD be - not a checklist of what he finds attractive in a woman, but a checklist of what he thinks every woman should strive to be in order to be considered a good woman by his standards - then he's an a-hole. It's a red flag.
@@hereamiLORDsendme95 I mean, there's truth to that, but if you look at Darcy's so-called "list", he's really just referencing traits Lizzie has that he admires and finds common ground with. He's basically saying, "Wow, would you look at that, my perfect woman has all of these same characteristics that you do haha what a *crazy* coincidence", and Lizzie's seeing what she wants to see, as Charlotte would say.
I love that even though this has been modernized, the dialogue is almost verbatim for the original. Really well written.

I always wondered why Darcy plowed on with his confession even when Lizzie basically tells him to leave- I thought it was another instance where his faults come through and that he was being selfish, but after re-watching the moment where he asks if she is alright and hearing the concern in his voice, imagining him seeing her in the state that she was in... He thinks she loves him back. He thinks this confession is going to sweep her off her feet and change this day to be the best day she has ever had. And you can see it in his body language that he nearly drops everything when she tells him he's not ok but he perseveres because he thinks his confession will change that and ugh everything about these two is adorable even when they're yelling at each other.

Everytime I start watching the 2005 film i always think to myself "Wow Matthew Macfadyen isn't really that attractive" but then by the end of the film I'm completely in love and he's the most beautiful man in the world. My opinion changes as Lizzie's does it's part of the magic of the film

All these years later and after countless re-watches, I still can't get over how seamlessly DVG fits into the story and matches the way all the other characters portrayed Darcy previously. The audience can see both his underlying intentions why Lizzie misreads them so badly at the same time. Also, Ashley does a great job of keeping Lizzie's misread realistic and understandable. It's hard to believe that Darcy hadn't been cast earlier and that the series wasn't all planned out from the beginning (other than the obvious "is based on P&P" thing), and that's mostly down to the acting, especially DVG's and Ashley's. Good stuff!

I recently watched the 2005 movie, and while I don't really remember this conversation from Austen's book, this entire video is so similar to the 2005 scene in the rain. The only difference is that the language is modernised.
