First post-Charlotte video. I'm still getting a hang of this editing thing. Really thankful for my super supportive sisters, though.

I just realized that in the books, Lydia always went to hang out at Captain CARTER's. In this version, her favourite hangout is called CARTER'S.
ohhh
Wait, wait, you're telling this to me NOW?
+Leonora S. How come I never realised that ?!
OHHHH
BRILLIANT
I've never liked any Lydia in any adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, or the lydia in the book, but I love this Lydia. Behind her craziness you can see that she really cares about lizzie and how hurt she is every time lizzie pushes her away. Bravo writers, I love this sooooo much!
ThatgirlnamedEleanor Loved her in Bride and Prejudice actually, cause she punches Wickham in the end. XD
+
Y'know, on a second watch-through, it's kinda painful to see just how much Lydia cares about Lizzie in her own perpetually hyperactive way and how little worth Lizzie places on that love sometimes.
+Ciaphas Cain Noticing this as well on my rewatch. Lydia desperately wants some sisterly attention, but Lizzie is constantly dismissing her. I don't think Lizzie's doing it out of a place of negativity, I think she believes that Lydia is just always like this with everyone and that since they don't have much in common that neither of them would get much out of hanging out. I feel bad for Lydia for trying to hard and not getting the attention she wants, and I feel bad for Lizzie for how bad she must have felt looking back and realizing she was neglecting her sister.
+Sandy White Also, Lizzie is a lot less hyperactive than Lydia, so Lizzie probably takes Lydia as her just being the "annoying, overdramatic younger sister."
+
It's the same with Collins, they pitch their intentions the wrong way. Though I don't deny Lizzie could've acted a bit better - though I guess that's the whole point, her eventual realising that she needs to treat people a bit better.
I think there are a lot of factors at play, such as in the diary in becomes clear that their parents take a very hands off approach and put Lizzie and Jane in a position to parent her a lot. From the kegger they made Lizzie chaperon to the almost public indecency incident at the bar I think Lizzie loves Lydia, but also finds her a little exhausting.
Normally, everyone just walks in and out as they please, but here, Janes asks: "Do you want this open or closed?" It's details like this that make this so authentic...I mean, it's the same with my brother and me: I only ask this question when he's upset.
Picturing Lydia in her room writing this super cute sidekick resume and the feels are real
+
+
Oh my gosh, now I'm picturing that and that's absolutely heartbreaking...
"Go see that Bing of yours. When was the last time you saw him, anyway?"
"Oh, it's just been a few days! It's fine!"
…AND SO IT BEGINS.
'Did we turn British?' LOL
I kinda forget Darcy, Caroline, and Bing are still around at this point...
Everyone talks about Jane, but what Lydia did is kind of sweet too. In her way. LOL. She's crzy... but I genuinely think she really does love her sisters and doesn't like seeing any of them suffer. Anyway, I am making myself watch only 10 episodes of LBD everyday. I have to make myself. Otherwise, I'd be glued to the monitor, LOL. Perfectly done. For real.
This is my fifteenth or sixteenth time watching this show and I still have to put restrictions like this on myself because I will never get anything done otherwise.
Rewatching these, and I didn't notice the first time how much Lydia just wanted to be involved with her sisters. Applying to be Lizzie's partner/sidekick? Not to mention the constant showing up and talking on her blog about how much she missed them, and the looks on her face whenever Lizzie would dismiss her....the girl has been screaming for some sisterly attention for months now.
YES I LOVE GOING BACK AND SEEING THIS
To Lydia's credit, composing a sort of resume and basically pitching herself to Lizzie as a candidate shows ambition, application of herself, and resourcefulness.
except that Lizzie doesn't take all the credit for her videos? she is CONSTANTLY telling us who edits and does all the major work on her videos.
The thing is, Charlotte never said that either, she just said that she is not working on her own stuff, which I can understand, like maybe she has a different vision she would want to bring to life.
It's kind of sad, after seeing the whole series, to go back and watch the interaction between Lizzie and Lydia at this point of the story. It's necessary for the story arc, but still... For people watching for the first time, particularly if you aren't familiar with Pride and Prejudice, the Lizzie/Lydia relationship is very important to the story, probably even more so than the Lizzie/Darcy arc. Also, Lydia's videos really add a different perspective, which I think is actually an improvement over P&P, in which Lydia never became a fully realized complex character.
"I'm applying to be your new sidekick!" Lydia is adorable
Here's the thing--on all the Lydia videos, I see people commenting "oh, when Lydia teases Lydia about how men don't want her she's joking, but Lizzie is so cold to Lydia" and I kind of get what you mean. However, from experience--I am generally pretty good at laughing at myself, but of all the "jokes" people tell at me about me, the times when people get at me about why I'm single/why men don't want me are the things that probably hurt my feelings CONSTANTLY, even I have an fantastic mum who is supportive--unlike Lizzie, who is well aware that the only way she can make her mother happy is by getting into a relationship.
She sees Jane all loved up with Bing and Lydia is apparently very popular in that department, and then her little sister has an ACTUAL LIST of "Reasons Lizzie Bennet is Perpetually Single", which is undeniably hurtful--so she responds with being snarky and mean herself. The alternative would be admitting to herself that Lydia's comments are upsetting her. I mean, her sister has *made a list* of reasons that no-one would want her.
I still love this adaptation of Lydia, but just throwing another perspective out there.
SPOILERS FOR NEW VIEWERS BELOW
Thanks for sharing! This also emphasizes what I kind thing Lydia does when she makes the "new" list for Lizzie in the last episode.
Yes! I loved that. Made me a bit teary the first time I saw it. :-)
+
its lizzies fault shes this way
I couldn't have explained it better. This is my favorite adaptation of Lydia's character, and I understand that Lizzie is sometimes really mean to her, but a lot of viewers treat Lydia as a poor sweetheart that did nothing wrong, and that isn't fair. It's both's fault if their relationship is so bad at this point of the story. Lizzie treats Lydia as a person that can only be annoying (and I kinda can relate to her, I'm a big sister too and my brother is as hyperactive as Lydia), and Lydia, despite wanting her sister's love and both of them to be happy, can get really mean too (even without wanting to) and almost never demands herself why her sister treats her like this, so she looks for Lizzie's attention in the wrong way. (I hope this is grammatically correct, English is not my first language. Also, I'm rewatching the series, but I watched it for the first time years ago, so I might not remember anything)
I love how Lydia mouths her resume as Lizzie reads it out loud. It's so good:)
double jointed lol
When Lydia said sidekick, I thought she said psychic. I got really confused.
+Alanna R. ME TOO. So glad I'm not along in this.
same here 😅
Sweet :) Her sisters trying to cheer her up
Lydia especially - Writing out a resume!!! She's just too awesome.
i just love the forever running joke of lydia's list of what makes lizzie uncool. ngl i am very interested to this list too lol
Does anyone else love the way Lydia says the word 'perpetually'. It just flows so beautifully. GDI Mary Kate Wiles is amazing.
Ooo, raspberry. With ZING!
I love all the tiny details like the camera moving ever so slightly between takes.
watching these, I just imagine how much Darcy's feelings for Lizzie would have solidified watching them himself, watching her break and feeling an urge to comfort her. Seeing her vulnerable, which he never gets to see in person. Beautiful.
So I play Bingly in a stage production of p & p. Between this version and the girl I act off I gotta say, Jane is the nicest person evah.
Me too.
Lydia is just too adorable, I just love her! And Jane is so sweet...I wanna join their family
I actually love this version of Lydia although I never liked her in the book.
Uh, both her sisters are caring. You people are obsessed with Jane but Lydia is trying too. She looks up to Lizzie and the last thing she wants is to see her in pain. Jesus.
People are equally obsessed with Lydia if not more so! Personal love them both!
+Beatrice Hopkins *personally
Cause Jane is agreeable and Lydia is obnoxious . . . I love Lydia for it, but I get that others are annoyed with her and rather get when Jane is sweet and careingnthan if Lydia dies the same thing
I'm now listening to the Pride and Prejudice audiobook and the paralleles to these diaries are really cool to discover. Also the way how Lizzie's mother talks in the diaries resembles suspiciously accurately to the way how the speaker reads her in the audiobook xD. I guess we know where THAT inspiration came from.
'Ok, then you can stay here hang out with mom'
'Let´s go to Carter's!!!!'
Haha BRILLIANT
i'm reading p&p at the moment, and this is just the best thing ever - reading a really fun and good story and then finding extra and imaginative and engaging content *about it* that just lets me fulfill my desires of seeing teh story in evermore depth?? i wish i had this for all good books
Best part of this episode was the way Jane talked about Bing. Just the subtle suggestion that everything isn't going that well. Yay. Just yay at how good this show is.
jane's dress is gorgeous!
Jane is the greatest older sister ever.
And I just wanted to say, I really like how relevant this version of P&P is to us, just as the original one was to women of the decade. Like, I'm really glad Charlotte and Lizzie are faced with questions about their future that many of us face as well. I'm gonna major in English, and I'm hoping to be a writer, so I know just how daunting the future can be when you're studying something deemed "useless" by many people.
Can I just say that Lydia looks fantastic? and I love her in this video!
Jane and Lydia are both adorable in this episode. I am glad they are there for Lizzie, and I hope she and Charlotte make up soon. I also CAN'T WAIT for a Wickham/Darcy crazytown showdown. LET IT HAPPEN.
Lydia's resume needs some appreciation.
I need that dress that Jane is wearing, like, yesterday.
I love Jane's wardrobe
I love how Lydia acts out the resume and mouths along as Lizzie reads it. She is perfect.
It's kind of cool watching this and knowing Charlotte has seen it now. She finally knows how hard Lizzie took her leaving. Time to reconcile!
:3 They sisters are so adorable, I mean, it's how it's supposed to be, that even if you don't get totally along, you are always sisters, and you can count with each other.
P.S. I loved the "Did you turn british?"
Jane is so adorable and her dress and her hair are amazing and I just love her so much!
I really love the subtle differences in editing quality in this video. Lizzie may have taken the same classes as Charlotte, but you can see the impact of Charlotte leaving even in the space around jump cuts.
jane’s hairstyle in this is so cute !
Did we turn british? Genius hahaha
"Did we turn British?" ... well you are wearing red, white and blue so...
+Rebecca Bates p.s. I am aware the US and France and *so many* others have the same colours for their flags... but it worked for this #UKrepresent
Rebecca Bates FRANCE \o/
"My name is Lizzy Bennet, and I miss my best friend / I may not be doing as well as I pretend."
I got legitimately scared she was going to start reading sad poetry to us.
It is awesome to be able to compare their red hair shades.
Lauren Conrad I
Awwww I love them both! I wish I had sisters.😔
Totally thought Lydia said "psychic" not "side kick" :p
I'm glad too know that I'm not the only one who was/is completely clueless about little sisters and how they look up to us
This keeps getting better!
Sidekick FT-Dubs should be on a tshirt lol.
No, you didn't turn British; you turned American :)
John Smith #Murica lol
Oh dear, I can't wait for Thursday. Also, I love how these keep getting longer and longer, it makes me so happy to see they're 5 minutes long :)
This actually made me cry.
"Did we turn British...?"
Sidekick eff tee DUBS!
I just started watching these 2 days ago. I'm loving this.
Jane is a brilliant actor. She steals the show every week.
"That means Darcy.."
YUS. I WANT TO MEET DARCY. GO GO LYDIA. SHOW US DARCY.
Those are NOT scones.
I love how caring her sister is :)
Loving the preview shot for the next episode!
This may be my first comment but.... those are some Strange scones. Why do they have icing on????
I know, right? America is confusing.
I've never had icing on my scones (also that sounds kinda gross) and I live in america.
As an American, I have no explanation. But I have had two types of scones; ones like these that are crumbly pastries with light icing and fruit stuff in... And light, fluffy, fried bread type. Both are delicious.
we put icing on everything. I don't know why either. My mom makes heart shaped scones with vanilla bean on valentines day which doesn't really relate but just saying
Jane continues to be my favorite character in this. She is amazing.
Everything about this episode was perfect, just perfect
YAY...loving it!
I love the little touches, like the rougher cuts and lighting mishap. The level of realism put into this show is outstanding.
Someone that loves you enough to give a hug and multiple cups of tea? If you got that, life is good.
I eagerly await each new episode of this web series, I am very glad you guys have not only done it justice but have kept me so interested that I can hardly wait for each new episode!
Awww... her sister is awesome. Made me tear up.
I love love love these episodes 3
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE WICKHAM vs. DARCY FACE-OFF. You have no idea how excited I am. Ugh, I have been looking forward to this sub-plot forever!
Thursday's gonna be AWESOME!
I was just noticing the same thing. My heart breaks for Lydia and how desperate she is and how sad it is to see Lizzie not being receptive.
OH MY GOSH I LOVE THESE!!!
I think this is my favourite video of all the sisters together.
Love their hairstyles in this one!
Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh! So excited! I am just loving how this story is coming along!
You guys are the cutest sisters. :) And I can't wait for the next video! Ahh!
OMG I can't wait to watch the next episode!
I love you so much for this.
awww I just love Jane! She is my favorite character!
Awwww, Jane is adorable. Yay for tea!
I am loving this. It was great that we got to see how affected Lizzie was by Charlotte leaving, as in the books, she just kind of peaces out and never got any attention in the first place. This adaptation is just rocking!
Great episode again ! :D And I'm very exited for the next one !
I LOVE their hair. And when they're all 3 sitting next to each other?! Gorgeous.
This is a really great episode. Both for Lizzie's missing Charlotte and also for bonding between the sisters. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens between Wickham and Darcy.
I love the translation of Charlotte's storyline into this modern context. It works so well! Can't wait to see her next! (Working my way through the videos at the moment)
Jane always looks so fricking perfect I just cannot even. #GOALS
Gosh I love these videos. I never finished pride and prejudice when I was younger, but this series has got me totally wrapped back into the book. props to everyone involved!:)
omg!! next episode's picture!!! so excited!!! :D
I'm glad it was shown how much the 'Charlotte situation' (as i have now dubbed it) hurts Lizzie not because of the fact that she's gone off with Ricky and 'sold out' but because this is her BEST FRIEND since childhood, that's something pretty god damned special and we all know that Lizzie is strong headed and opinionated and that she has a lot of Pride, which is a big part of the book and web series, so she reacted as she did because she was losing her best friend, her sister in all but blood..
I have to say, I've come to that point where the media I consume and my life become strangely parallel. It's been months now that my best friend and I have alternated between fighting and silence, and a week since she said a lot of hurtful, spiteful things (similar to Charlotte's vein when she left) and she gave up and left. As much as these episodes have made me cry, they've also really helped a lot.
Thanks, Lizzie. It may not seem that much to you, but it means a lot to me. Thanks.
Of course its brilliant, the green brothers are the collective pinnacle of awesome
These video's have been way more helpful then I thought they would originally - I'm paying Jane in our schools production of Pride and Prejudice and the actress here who plays Jane has really helped me understand the character!! Thanks guys!
The Green brothers both never forget to be awesome
I'm excited for thursday. I love Darcy reenactments!
Have fun at Carter's! Can't wait to hear how it goes.
