As an aging gay man, to watch Scott accept, own, and hold up that sign during that song meant the world to me.
That's exactly what they did. Scott even said something along the lines of that it was to represent the fact that, despite all their differences (religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, etc) they manage to live and work in harmony. I take it a step further, though...I see the cards representing how they are different, the shared cards representing how they are the same, then at the end they discard all of the labels and are simply human.

Superfruit's Rise and Pentatonix's Run to You are the two other songs that pack a similar punch. Rise is the commemoration by five gifted LGBTQ+ musicians of the dead and wounded by the Pulse nightclub shootings in Orlando. Run to You is a devastating story of loss and love and utterly beautiful. It is also an original.
The most touching version of "run to you" is that live performance from last summer, when you heard the haters outside the venue screaming their hate patrols. You see clearly how Scott is hurt. And how concerned the others watch him. That performance is beyond beautiful and heartbreaking.
I really like the official video of Run to you. I haven't found the performance that Ellen was referring to but the live performances that I did find from last summer were so badly filmed that it lessened the experience. Also, in the live performances from last summer, they seem to sing a shorter version if the song. I really like the lyrics of the original song. Please react to the official performance before any live performances. Fun fact: in the official video it snows and during the choruses the snow rises rather than falls. The group learned to appear to sing the chorus backwards so that when played in reverse the snow appears to rise.

I've heard this a million times and heard it live, but damn it still makes me cry at that crescendo.
That was the first time Scott very purposefully held a LGBTQ label on himself. He had never specifically said otherwise. It was the beginning of him being truly open with his identity on social media. It was very poignant.
Good grief, you only had to see three minutes of the first few Super Fruits to know he was accepting the label. Kissy facing and butt patting with Mitch kind of says something.
@@Blue-rl5dp but nothing as to label himself. He never called Alex Kirk his boyfriend, ever, despite being together for 4 years. (They shared a room in the frat house). This was, like I said above, where he first specifically "labeled" himself. I'm so happy he is more comfortable with himself now and is so very in love with that angel soul Mark Manio.
Even if he didnt hold the actual label until this point, The LGBTQ+ also includes the allies. Expands to, minimum, lgbtqia and the a is the ally portion
@@christinaconnery9419 the "A" in lgbtqia is for Asexual not Ally. If you are an ally you are not part of that community, you only support it as an advocate.
PTX JUNKIE Yes its true we all knew it and he didn’t really try to hide it but it was the first time Scott publicly acknowledged himself as lgbtq. It just wasn’t something he ever addressed when asked about it before until this video. I’m so glad he’s comfortable enough now to share that side of himself.

Love this one, not speaking tells a lot more in this video than speaking. I cry every time I watch this. This is what makes them so special, being so different yet so amazing and in tune with each other!
The first time I watched this, that was my reaction as well. I was stunned by both the execution and the message. That this group of, in many ways, very different people can come together to create such beauty *IS* a key part of this message.

All good recommendations but "Nightmare before Christmas" was written by Danny Elfman and "Come Along" was written & performed by Cosmo Sheldrake
You didn't need to speak. Your face said it all. How can you not bawl like a baby when all 5 voices come together and peak? It is so moving and the message of the song just punches you in the chest when they crescendo. So impactful. So beautiful.

Thank you for this. There is no need for you to apologize because this song in particular deserves the respect and full attention of the musical recipient. If you had stopped the performance to insert statements/observances, you probably would have had a lot of criticism for doing so. True music appreciation reactors don't interrupt this one...ever. 🤗 I CRIED when this video came out...It still touches my heart YES they are ALL different but in the end WE ARE ALL HUMAN!! and Oh and Avi is NOT that short..but when you place him in between Kevin who is maybe 6' and Scott who is a giraffe...well...in the end you can see Avi, Mitch and Kirstie with those platform shoes they loom about the same height.😅✌
I think both Scott and Kevin are in the neighborhood of 6'3"-6'5" or thereabouts, also Avi is about a step behind them which will also make him look shorter.
@@bill.godwin-austen Scott is 6'3", Kevin is 6'2", Avi is 5"11", Mitch is 5'10'' (plus his elevator shoes) and Kirstin is 5'3" (plus her gigantic platform shoes). I am amazed at how anyone can walk in such tall shoes, but Kirstin can do it and look stylish. I'd topple over and break an ankle if I tried.

As you are reacting to these videos, you will find yourself marveling at how often their arrangement of a song arguably matches or surpasses the original. I have found that their version is often the version I like most. This is one of those that I thought was as at least as good as the original, and not just because it's PTX doing it. It's because the care taken in honoring the original song, while applying what they are most gifted at - making 5 voices sound like a dozen or more - adds a choral element that takes the song next level. The choral climax at the end makes your heart raise in your chest just a bit, warms the skin, maybe even gives a few goosebumps. I truly believe John Lennon would be group-hugging these guys if he could, it's that good. I'm glad you're enjoying PTX, it's nice to watch someone awakened to what can be done with a capella if the perfect combination of talent comes together.
Yeah i think this is probably one of my favorites cause of the message , but then you realize this song was made a long time ago and its still true to this day , this cover is just beautiful with the vocals

There are LOADS of people who tear up when watching this video. It really is needed in the world. John Lennon did AMAZING when he wrote this, it stands the test of time. There are some covers that artists messed up. THIS one, though...'Perfect' is not a good enough word for this. I still tear up, when I have lost count of how many times I have watched it while watching reactors.
I cried the first time I watched this one and it still moves me every time I hear it.
I've watched this so many times, I've listened to this so many times, and I thóúght I was able to watch it again without tearing up. And then I watched your face, saw your reaction, and the honesty of it, the way you opened up and really felt it: it hit me, and once more I let the tears come. The world needs to hear and BELIEVE the words of this song by John Lennon sung by PTX . Masterful
The message draws you in to the point that you ALMOST forget to listen to the techniques they used vocally. When you re-listen to it, pay close attention to how they use their favorite "trick" - that is the sound wall that they build slowly only to drop to silence and have one voice take over. Usually it's Mitch but having Kevin this time was a great surprise. And the WAY they built the wall this time, almost in dis-chord to amplify the many voices of their world slowly coalescing at last into a choir "WILL LIVE AS ONE" adds to the visual message of the cards. Many people, widely varied, coming together in harmony... Studies have been made of just the lyrics of this song and it's original release. This video would be the master class.

Big fan of your reactions. I am a 1,000% Pentaholic. Not only their music, but these people as people. You always catch on the special parts of each video. You are in total sync about what makes this band special. This video came out in March, 2017. After Trump was elected and after he executed the Muslim Ban which was a horror that shocked the nation into what was to come. I cried like a baby when I saw this video. Sadly, the description box under the official video has changed since it first came out. Scott wrote it. It was about the need for diversity to make harmony. I copied it but I can't find it now. This video still packs a punch. But man did I need this back then.
In the beginning you looked so concerned, even not really willing to give it a try. And as every single time, a second later the coin flips. These are the moments I'm waiting for. 😀

I have probably watched every reaction to this song (all their songs really) there is and you are one of a handful of reactors that caught the meaning of the cards as to what they have in common in the card they passed and their differences immediately.
