We look at the resignation of Harvard University President Claudine Gay, the first African American and second woman to lead the Ivy League school, after conservative-led allegations of plagiarism and backlash over her testimony at a congressional hearing on antisemitism that is part of a broader effort to censor pro-Palestinian speech on college campuses. “This is a terrible moment for higher education,” says Khalil Gibran Muhammad, professor of history, race and public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. He says plagiarism became a “pretext” to oust Gay, and discusses the larger right-wing war on education aimed at undoing progress on race, gender and addressing inequality.

If that prestige is threatened by anyone, there wouldn't even be a close coming to consideration. Especially an African American female. The reason we have a media,is to get between truth and falsehood. Mainly falsehood is the motivation for European media. The Israeli zionist European government is an established, protected, pirating mechanism, that was installed to gain even more world dominance. Zionist are supplanted. They will exploit the western world and in the end, they will make strong attempts to freeze Europeans, and make all efforts to become world dominators themselves. Just as did the founding fathers of the United States did Great Britain. Nature is a tell tell indicator of deceitful motivations.

Lifting entire sentences and paragraphs from the scholarly work of others, with maybe a slight tweaking of a preposition or conjunction, with no attribution is intellectual theft, plain and simple. That she also did this on her doctoral dissertation suggests that she misrepresented herself to the faculty and dissertation committee and thus committed academic fraud. Under these conditions, the Harvard graduate school should seriously consider having the PhD it conferred on her rescinded.

Trump broke the brains of the far left to the point where the far left now has no principles. They believe that they are so correct and that everyone else not them is so wrong and dangerous that it justifies to them almost anything they think, say, or do....so long as it is so history follows the correct path they have envisioned. I can't have a discussion at all with them anymore. They are constantly trying to feel you out to make sure you aren't one of those bad people. Firstly, what did Democracy Now get wrong in their reporting? Secondly, what "missteps" might those be?
The university presidents that were called before the hearing had their formal response written by legal experts based entirely on legislative precedent and the Constitution which they stuck to during the questioning. Would you rather that they expressed their personal political views and opinions or stuck to the law? Your so-called "misstep" is that they did not bow down to political pressure to say what the GOP wanted them to say for their own political purposes. This is just more of the continuation of the GOP and far right to take over education in the US - the war against public education, to ban books, whitewash history, take control of school boards, and to push their propaganda even more than it already is within the curriculum. Having an informed population with strong critical thinking skills is the greatest threat to the GOP. Hense why people like Trump "love the uneducated" and the ongoing war against educational institutions. Poorly informed, uneducated people are far more gullible and thus more likely to vote against their own interests. Also, why are you not questioning the lies of the GOP questioning her in the video? Intifada is NOT synonymous with "genocide". That in itself is ridiculous and purposefully misleading to politicize the matter. And why is the GOP member not asking the same about committing genocide against the Palestinians? Israel is under no threat of genocide, yet we are witnessing firsthand as Netanyahu's government engages in acts of genocide against the Palestinian people.

Whether it was data in the lab in chemistry class or citations on a paper in an english class, you would be asked to leave the university. Of course that took courage from the department head and the administration. It took the willingness to lose that tuition or face a lawsuit. For someone at her level of education to not list a citation was not an accident. When it was identified previously, why did she not amend it or acknowledge it?

    • @kayjay7585

To be fair, I've looked at a few of the plagiarism allegations and they really are errors in citing and some could easily have been accidentally formulating sentences very similarly, which simply happens in writing, especially after having read tons of passages over and over again. This was in the 90s, so probably written on a typewriter without any automation we take for granted nowadays. I can't speak for all the allegations, but the ones concerning her PhD are nothingburgers. Regardless, her appalling response to antisemitism, the safety concerns and her performance on the hearing, plus her abuses of power regarding staff she didn't like, are more than enough for her to be yeeted. She should also be stripped of tenure, especially since she tried to do so for her competitors.

FIRE also came to her defense . There was a report issued last May where it was declared that Hamline University violated the professor's academic freedom and there is a pending lawsuit against Hamline University. Or how about a report that talks about California school districts with too much focus on DEI and too little focus high standards of education and as a result the poorer education outcomes?
