  • The Mercedes -AMG GT Coupe returns in 2025 after a lengthy break. This serious sports car is related to the seductive Mercedes-AMG SL convertible. Twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 and all-wheel drive are standard on the highest GT variants. The Mercedes-AMG GT43 joins the range in 2025. This GT Coupe is the closest to a base model. Its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 416 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, less than the 469-hp GT55 and 577-hp GT63. Unlike the V-8 variants, the GT43 has just rear-wheel drive, which, combined with its reduced weight, should change its dynamic attitude. Otherwise, the GT Coupe series masterfully blends the traits of a performance sports car with a luxurious interior, current equipment, and a sturdy aluminum, steel, magnesium, and fiber composite construction to maintain its gentleman's GT status. A sophisticated hydraulic anti-roll system and rear wheel steering allow the chassis to adapt to changing driving circumstances and road conditions and to outrun most Porsche 911s.The new-2025 GT43's 416-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder has a 48-volt hybrid starter/generator and electronic exhaust-gas turbocharger. The 48-volt electrical system keeps the turbo spooling, reducing the time between throttle input and exhaust gasses generating maximum boost. Mercedes' twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 motor produces 469 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque in the GT55 and 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet in the GT63. An electric motor boosts horsepower to 805 in the GT63 S E Performance. All variants include a nine-speed automatic transmission with a clutch instead of a torque convertor to minimize weight and improve accelerator responsiveness. All three GT55 and GT63 models have an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential and can send 100% of engine torque to the rear wheels. Rear-wheel steering keeps the GT on its toes, but our first drive of the GT63 didn't thrill us as much as the previous iteration. For challenging driveway entries and speed bumps, the AMG GT's optional nose-lift system raises the front end by 1.2 inches. We've seen GT Coupe test mules with charging outlets, suggesting Mercedes is developing a more powerful plug-in hybrid that could outperform the 720-hp Black Series.
