Before getting our first full-breed Maine Coon, we had a rescue whose mom was a M. Coon and dad was not. She had the body size, but her fur was more medium length. She had the ear tufts, no lynx tips though, but personality type was 100% Maine Coon. Other traits include very tufty paws with lots of extra fur in between the toes-- it's fun to watch them run across a hardwood floor and spin. They are really terrific cats, and nothing phases them at all. Both my rescue and my pure M. Coon loved/love to go walkies on a leash. My girl doesn't even jump at the vacuum cleaner! They are really messy eaters though--I mean, it's crazy, they spit kibble everywhere, it's like they try to cover the most space possible. If you get a Maine Coon, be prepared to regularly comb them--they shed like you've never seen before from a cat! You can watch the fur float into your kitchen, it's a whole lotta' fur, but they're so worth it!

@@natashakingston8302 I'd say, get a good dog collar (we use a puppy collar) and get a flexi-lead. They do best with just a collar and a flexi-lead--easier to teach them to walk if they don't feel restricted.

We got a Maine coon ragdoll mix last year and she’s already the biggest animal we’ve ever owned. Her intelligence amazes us all the time, because none of our previous cats would do stuff like playing fetch or opening the drawer to get her mice toys. She runs the house over a 12 year old Pomeranian 😂

My cat is 10% Maine Coon (I had the DNA genetic testing done for him). He has the fur that crosses his ears, has longer fur around his face, has the high cheekbones, triangular face, thick tail, very vocal, easy to train (goes on walks, comes when called, sits, etc,). He is fascinated by water and loves to play with it. He is not incredibly affectionate which I think was due to him being a stray, but he is social and patient with my crazy kids. He will snuggle/cuddle but sparingly. He was found on the side of the road as a kitten and dropped off at the shelter. He definitely has the other mannerisms and features though!

I have a cat who adopted me after somehow becoming lost and soaked to the skin. The vet told me he was a neutered male.. but couldn't tell me much more than that he probably already has had all his shots. At 11 1/2 lbs. I suspected that he is a Maine Coon.. especially since I live only a few states away from there. but THIS of your videos, convinced me that beyond probability.. my big guy is a Weegie. He doesn't have that lion sort of face that you well described.. but the deep look he gives me sometimes.. of a deeper consciousness.. was spot on for a Norwegian Forest Cat as well. They are very very similar.

I have a question. I have a Maine Coon cat. I take care of her like she is a queen and spend a lot of time loving her. The issue is, I now have to move from a place with a garden to a third floor apartment. Many people are telling me to give her away but I CAN’T. I adore her, she has my heart. I have set the apartment up with cat toys, cat trees, scratching post, and it looks like her apartment not mine 😂 I have a major guilt trip about leaving her in there for about 6 hours when I go to work. She sleeps, yes, but is it bad for me to move her with me into an apartment?
I don’t want to let her loose outside unless I walk with her (lease) because my neighbors cat got run over there.
I just love her too much to give her away! Any advice on this would be good. I feel bad, but I can no longer afford a place with a garden and am doing all I can! She isn’t showing signs of being upset, but I feel bad for moving her in to an apartment with me. Is this ok? xx

If you make sure your baby gets play time with you and plenty of mental stimulation maybe some puzzle feeders etc to work on when your out I'm 100 percent sure taking her with you rather than her loosing her family aka you is best for her. Cats are very resilient but rehoming would be heartbreaking and traumatic on both of you indoor cats are much safer and with plenty of toys etc she'll be more than happy to play then snooze and wait on you to come home

She'd prefer to keep her family, just think- they're about as smart as a 1-2 year old human toddler. What would be worse from that perspective, a new house with your same family unit, or a whole new house AND new family who she wouldn't trust at first.
Unless you literally can't keep her anymore, I recommend keeping her and cat-ifying the apartment. (A cat tree, scratch posts, etc)

Yeah my cousin had met my boy and tried to tell me she rescued a maine coon from shelter the next year. Her kitten was clearly a long haired domestic he gets on like a normal moggy aloof and independent with no real interest in people unless he's hungry apart from that he ignores everyone he's a beautiful little boy with lovely markings but hes not a maine coon they have a very specific personality which is why I went on a long waiting list with breeder to get my boy. After no longer been able to own dogs after health declined and moving to a apartment I wanted a pet that was intelligent, loving and very attached to owner. My Lynx plays fetch follows me everywhere is always on my lap or in bed and I've spent many many hours clicker training him loads of tricks he's by my side 24/7 so loyal

My kitty has most ifbnot all of these features she is the sweetest thing ever I've never heard her hiss ever she won't let me shower or go to the bathroom privately she always follows me and she has me follow her and makes sure I am because her cat dish and water dispenser are empty we had a calico and we got them both but after about 2 years one night my dad had made me throw her outside because she kept peeing and throwing up and mom was going to take her to the farm the next day but she worked a night shift that night so it was too late I could do anything I felt so terrible we all miss her even our little Maine coon chloe. Cali would always lay on top of their tree and chloebwould lay on top of her and they would sleep they got a long so well and cleaned each other a lot I miss them so much and I can tell she misses her "sister." I don't know what I'd do without chloe truly such a sweetheart. I never knew that we would get cats again but mom saw some for adoption at a pet sorr a couple towns away and she wanted a calico and a fluffy one and I didn't expect her to come yome with Two kittens that were only a couple months old.

I always like to add the correction, MC's don't have a tail..they have a PLUME. lol
I'm on my second one now. Grew up with a tuxedo MC, and currently have a 14 year old, 16 pound female Calico (Gidget).
Both of them are just amazingly clever (Gidget never met a cabinet she couldn't open), and have just the sweetest, most tolerant dispositions. Mine likes to be NEAR you, without actually being ON you. Definitely not a "lap cat"
FUN FACT: Many MC's are polydactyl (6 toes)! The larger paws are a product of being bred in snowy climates, so they act like personal snowshoes to help them maneuver better in the snow.
Great cats, but they need attention...If you travel a lot, or are gone extended periods, an MC is NOT for you.
Remember your local animal shelter! Every time you adopt, you get your wings... you angels, you!😉

working in the veterinary field for nearly 20 years, I get so tired of people saying their "Domestic Long hair" is a Maine Coon.. believe me, if you have a Maine Coon, the breeder has done DNA testing, the ears have tufts, the eyes are close together, the muzzle is totally different and the cat is over 12lbs, and they likely have a microchip! There is NOTHING WRONG with having a magnificent long haired cat! I love them and have had many in my lifetime.. but please stop labeling your wonderful cat as a Maine Coon.. they have so many health issues, so if you don't want vets to highly recommend bloodwork, Echocardiograms, etc, just tell us the truth!
