Well done boys. Its about time someone produced local 4WD content in this area. OS stuff is fine for what it is, but seeing something relevant to here is great. Also, content on the GQ patrols is well suited to people looking to get into proper 4WDing with a solid and fundamental base unit. I had the GQ back in the day, and it provided an excellent entry into what 4WDing was, and could be. It appears you are identifying the same outcomes with your rigs.
You and your crew produce an honest show, and I look forward to seeing how you deal with the coil vs leaf comparison. We all have our views on all aspects of 4WDing, and many believe too much, but are convinced of too little. How you find and sell your conclusions on the issues will be interesting to watch.
There are so few around doing stuff these days, so lead the way, and maybe you'll inspire others of your era, in the area, to follow. Perhaps we will cross paths off the beaten track in the area someday. We could see how a supercharger compares...
    Cheers

Nice to see a leafie ute. I've had mine for 17 years. Put a second hand turbo kit on years and years ago and it gets used around the farm and for hauling loads. Has about 500K on it and all original apart from the engine which my mate cooked while I was in the Gulf grr grr. But turbo is so much the way to go. There's a long dirt hill into my place and non turbo the ute was back to 3rd, turbo it'd be the bottom of 5th or the top of 4th. I also had a GQ wagon which I turbo'd and then put on a water to air cooler. A little complex but EGTs were nice and low and I could run more boost. Best one is my current GU - lots of UFI gear and 200 kw at the wheels. Been all over the place and no issues at all. Got booked going uphill at 126kph.... Can't boot it up my test hill - spins up in 4th when the boost maxes out. Love my trolls :-)

I don't know why people spend that much on intercooler setups. I've always just bought R32/R33 GTR intercoolers for $150-$200 and get an exhaust shop to make up the piping. GTR coolers are good until about 400kw on Skylines, the R32/33 end tanks are welded so they can handle anything a tiny LC/Patrol turbo will throw at it. They're as good as you'll get for OEM and a shitload better than any china core. Absolutely no need to be spending over $600, spend the rest on some nice ATs/muddies

No point in tuning unless you have a boost compensator. The wastegate isn't opening at crusing so tuning the fuel would literally just make you go faster or slower at the same throttle position, and you won't gain much just on the timing (unless it's already way out). If you have a compensator though you could tune it so it's super lean at cruising which would help economy.

And remember diesels need a turbocharger to make power a old 3.4 petrol Prado will do 80 kmh in second hill or no hill.

How they go on the down hills? Asking cause I used to have mates with patrols with 35s one with a ls1, one with a tb42 4.1 diffs and they'd fly up the hills and shit themselves going down due to the lack of engine breaking and my old bus with 33s 4.6 diffs td42 would be on the throttle the whole way down like a tractor. The barra is a piece of Aussie magnificent that will be cherished for years to come though.
