Front mount will take out 100 deg. Needs more boost, 13 psi is right for ht18, and ditch the terribly restrictive snorkel, that is killing it. You are still nice and lean though, unlike some knobs going pig rich and overheating. A few simple mods and you will be blown away with the difference. Good work and good channel, love seeing young fellas getting in and learning. Keep it up!

Love watching your work and enthusiasm. I'm a 71yo fan of your channel. I've had my GU TD42t for 30 years and it's my treasure.
I've set my 99 gu turbo up with a couple of cheap intercooling options via fleabay. Barrel 10x4 or in my case a bigger cubed one rated to 600hp 😂 It's fed by a heat exchanger up front with a 12 inch fan, plus water pump. Pumping cool water up into intercooler. It's a cheap option all up for under 500 bucks I run 14.5lbs boost. As you know..the factory airbox is restricts air flow from the snorkel. Fuel Economy is always great. Mine is primarily used for touring. At 100kph average EGTs 250. Pushing hard up hills it rarely reaches 400 plus in normal conditions.
At 90kph to 125+ it pulls like a train and just keeps running on. Its never been flogged past 3000 revs in its life either. All the best
    🙏🍀

Sounds great, but you might want to put a heat shield of some sort between the exhaust and the tray so you don’t melt or cook what ever you have in the tray.

Mate turn the fuel and boost up a bit more, will actually help get your egts down with more boost and won't be getting as hot with the extra power with the fuel aswell, can't kill a td with a stock pump and turbo maxed anyway. 3/4 turn of fuel and around 15 pound boost will be alot better to drive

A few comments down Zach mentioned injectors, this I would do when playing with fuel. A weak injector will Crack early with a poor pattern, meaning one hot cylinder not being reflected by egts. Be really interested to see what difference an intercooler would make. All positive I think, it's why they're fitted. It'll give you denser, cooler air into the engine so your boost makes more oomph. That's not to detract from your great efforts and presentation here. Superb and thanks for sharing!!

Mate, there's no harm in more boost with those non-boost compensated pumped engines. in fact, you're probably doing for damage than good. Diesels run cooler when lean and the turbo will only produce as much boost as you feed the engine fuel through that screw. Disconnect the boost line going to the wastegate and you should get a few extra psi before the gate opens but you should also notice egts dropping a lot.

    • @toms_gupooe
      @toms_gupooe Před 3 lety

Yeah don’t just disconnect the waste gate, with a ht18 you’ll get over 20 psi roughly anything that high with that turbo is just insane amounts of heat.

Nice work be careful tuning is the biggest to keep a good eye on it and dyno them after I blew it up when I bought it it came from the west strokes td4.2td so 4.5 litre it was already tuned to (275hp 750nm 34psi boost) but a bad tune it was way too lean down low and mid range then over fueling to buggery at boost lifted and cracked the head grabbed a liner split the block. ( I Didn know about needing head studs instead of bolts over 20pound boost) I learned quickly
So thanks to Brett and the team Southern Engines Kembla grange they did a full re build for me with a awesome tune 24psi now head studs in for protection needs over 20psi especially when towing . (261hp at the wheels) egts dropped by 100degrees carnt stress on the tunings it’s a cost saving if you get it wrong and blow something up crack a head etc it’s costly
Safe tune heaps of grunt and decent air/fuel ratios now thanks to southern engines.
Keep up the great work men love the videos

Plus always towing and loaded tools plus caravan for work van is 2575kg loaded No water then the Ute is always on or just over 😐 what it’s allowed depending what jobs I’m doing. Then when hunting it pokes about at idle all night.
If not hard towing and heavy all the time or off road only occasionally to remote places I don’t think I would worry about studs and go normal bolts but now and then having to rebuild again or becomes expensive and a set of studs can stop that big cost and down time

Try to get hold of a boost compensated/aneroided fuel pump. You can't ever get your fuel right with a turbo on an N/A pump. You'll also get more power, easier starting and lower EGT's with a timing advance, as they're set pretty retarded from factory. If you do that before you intercool it, you'll then be able to monkey tune it like you just did with your EGT's when you eventually get one.

Loved the video as always. Quality content here on the tube. Surprised you didn’t get a 3inch dump pipe? Usually people love them for extra power and lower egts

HT18 aren't lazy turbos boss. Their designed to be powered by a boost compensated 11mm pump. a NA 10mm isn't going to tickle any turbo in terms of response, not without alot more boost and intercooling
