Thanks, gives me a good idea of what to look for. Getting the same code on my 99 e320 4matic wagon. Just got done replacing the CPS on it because that was failing, now i have this code. I am not a mechanic, but as complicated as these cars might be, so far everything seems easy to work on and diagnose. Just got a bluetooth ODB2 scanner and torque pro for android.

I have two MBZ Mechs that I've used in the past, both said the same thing, that the code may not mean that the EGR Valve is bad and could be as much as $2k to fix?! . One want $200+ to Diagnose and the other wants $400+ I'm tempted to tell them both to take a hike!!

I think this is the problem with my E320. I had a bad egr valve, that I changed. After a few miles I got the p0400 code again.

Hi. Somewhat helpful but you didn't show where the failed vacuum hose was located on the car. Can you please tell me which vacuum line you replaced? Thanks!
