    I'm not particularly enticed by glass-on-glass nor by translucent grout, but I love the frosted look on the clear textured glass adhered face down. Some of the glass I got from my dad is textured on both sides, so this is a real breakthrough :)

    Thank you for doing this video! You have answered my concerns about the grout bleed. I will definitely try some of this...but I think I will be doing the Weldbond wash 1st....just to be safe....unless I can find a resin that is good for outdoor pieces. If you know of any please share. Thanks again...love your videos!

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Před 2 lety +1

      Thankyou so much Jenny and glad the video helped. Just remember if you adhere the glass pieces down correctly there isn't any need to do a Weldbond wash. Avoid using any resins in mosaics especially for outside because they all go yellow or get a yellow tinge. Manufactures use fancy words such as UV inhibitors and UV resistance but none simply state their resin will not yellow and back it up with evidence as well. :)

      @@TreasuryRoad Thanks for your resin advice. I will definitely be more attentive to my gluing in future.
      Do you know of anything other than Weldbond that can be used for a wash and dries faster?

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Před 2 lety

      @@jennylockhart2668 My pleasure Jenny. You can use PVA glues as long as they are water soluble and dry clear. Don't use anything that's not easily water soluble, how long they take to dry is anyone's guess. Drying time is also influenced by the environment that its in. :)

  • @lyndadee4022

    Thank you for your excellent translucent grout videos, Peter. I'd like to order this product for my current project and am considering which size container would best suit my needs. While I would only need the smaller 5.5 lbs right now, economically it would be wiser to invest in the larger 11 lb. and store the remaining unmixed components. Are you aware of what this translucent grout's shelf life is if the packages are opened but not combined? Thank You for your continuing educational videos as well as for being so available
    to the mosaic community.

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Před 2 lety +1

      Thankyou very much Lynda, appreciate that. The Litokol translucent grout has a shelf life of 2 years stored in its original packaging and kept dry. Storing it correctly like any grout will be very important if you are not going to use it all at once. 😊

    Hello, great information. Have you ever tried colorant in the epoxy grout? Do you think you could use the same type of colorants as people use in resin work?

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Před rokem

      For the white Litokol epoxy grout I believe you can use resin colourants but I personally haven't done that. :)

    Peter, thank you for all your testing of products. I recently started to make glass on mirrors using Liquid Nails, which I Iove working with. With my first project I used black grout, which really looked good, but I had two pieces of glass that had the grout bleed. That's the only one I had grout bleed with, but made me very apprehensive when I did the other two. I've ordered a small amount of Litokol from a company in Georgia. I'm in NC, USA, and haven't started with it yet, but with the 3 glass on mirrors that I did, I used textured glass. First I used it with the texture up and it was a nightmare trying to remove all the grout on top. Then I put it down for the second one, but I found that I really liked the look of it with the texture up better. I'm just wondering if you've used the Litoko with the texture up and how was it to remove it from the texture? Thank you so much. I value your opinion and your knowledge.

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thankyou so much appreciate that Liz. Litokol epoxy grouts are great products and because they use a reasonable amount of water for cleaning up the epoxy grout is generally easy to remove from textured glass. However it will depend on how textured the glass is because some can be undulating and others can be reasonably deep and making it difficult to get any grout out. When I create a GOG I never use the texture side down there is always a good chance of grout bleed and the texture side up I also think looks better as you said. I would suggest doing a small test sample piece using the same textured glass to see how easy it is to clean up. Thanks for commenting and watching the video. :)

    • @lizstroud6531
      @lizstroud6531 Před 8 měsíci

      @@TreasuryRoad I'm sorry one more question. If the Litokol is translucent, would it even show up if a tessera has deep ridges? Also, since you had clear pieces in the above piece, would it make a difference to use the Litokol for the piece? I have clear textured glass, but some of it has gold in it and I love using it. I wonder how the Litokol would show up. I use both colored and clear glass for the glass on mirror. Again, thank you so much!

    Thanks so much Peter. I'm about to do a glass on glass project for the first time in ages. Used weldbond in the past but going to use Olba glue as I'm predicting it will be much better and less grout bleed. However, I'm now going to try the Litokol for grout as it looks like it may provide an even better overall result than my usual grout.

    Interesting - the grout bleed under the textured ones looks like etched glass. Might be a good intentional design element in some pieces. Thanks for the demo - quick query - is that grout cured 100%?? It is not as clear as I had thought it would be.

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Před 2 lety +2

      Thankyou so much and thanks for watching. Yes thats what I thought as well, there is a possibility it could be used as part of a design. The grout was properly cured and I just had another look. The translucent grout isn't meant to be clear or even close to clear, this is because the glass beads that makeup the grout take on the colour of the stained glass around it. It can only achieve this by being "frosted". :)
