    • @johnmartin560
      @johnmartin560 Před 2 lety +2

      I bought my '04 with the J-Mod done by the previous owner. Its just as good as everyone says it is. It shifts quick, & smooth under normal driving, but will chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift under full throttle even with a bone stock 4.6.

    • @silicon212
      @silicon212 Před 2 lety +3

      The J-mod is very easy to do and the only thing that you need to be careful of is the torque on the bolts for the valve body. A little drilling of the sep plate and deletion of some strategic accumulator springs and the transmission gets a whole new attitude. I did this on my 2005 when I rebuilt the trans on it back in 2016, and I've done this to most of the 4R70 transmissions I've built since.

    I've used seafoam products for a few years now. I like them to stabilize gasoline, and for the top end treatment through the throttle body. The top end treatment requires a heat soak - after spraying it in, you shut off the engine and allow the seafoam to be absorbed. It's always fun driving the vehicle afterwards because of the billows of smoke that this generates. I use the seafoam in the crankcase but only when I am coming up to an oil change (within 300 miles). I find that it does an amazing job of cleaning any gummy deposits, and the way I can tell is how dark the oil appears when it drains. Deep Creep is a good product as well. If I have any criticism it is that seafoam is so expensive.

    Shift kit for the 4R70W is technically free had they done the J mod (remove just the bottom springs in the 1-2 and 2-3, drill separator plate, upgrade reverse and OD servos). Since the car is newer than 1998 the last 2 aren't necessary. Just combine that with a tune and a Marauder Torque converter. The car already has a 3:55 rear so you're set with that.

    upgrading the front and rear sway bars on the, P71/P7Bs is such a massive upgrade on the feeling and handing, especially at higher speeds. it's one of the first things I upgrade on the P71/P7Bs I've owned. rear is 17mm and fronts are 29.5 stock. I go to, 1 inch rear and 1 1/4 front. sssooooo much better and it's cost is just around, 465 for both! definitely worth every penny. adding cold air intakes and not doing anything else and not doing a retune with the new cold air, does nothing lol. I'm currently on my 2nd ownership of a private security patrol company and since my first in, 2008 until now, 2022, I've now owned a total of, 9 P71/P7Bs. since, 2008 i have only has to replace 1 transmission. ironically, it was the lowest mileage vic. lol bought it in, 2009 and it was a, 2005 with just 51k miles on it, after I got it at the auction, drive it back to the office just about 70 miles away and blew the transmission (that same day) paid, 3800 for it and I put in a brand new transmission with a shift kit added to it, costing 2400 bucks. worth it still. that vic lasted until 2017. 8 years of service and retired it with, 198k miles on it. the only upgrade I do after getting one is, upgrading the front and rear sway bars. gives my staff a much better feeling vehicle to drive and adds safety. eliminates under and over steer. obviously also, reduces body roll by a ton. I also try to get ones with rear gear ratio of, 3.27. it's the gear ratio for the police versions with best MPG. police vics can have the, 3.55 and 3.73 gears as well. mist highway departments order the 3.73 gears for best acceleration since thet typically have to go from 0 to really fast all the time on the highways catching up to speeders

  • @CathyInBlue
    @CathyInBlue Před 2 lety

    If I recall correctly, that transmission cross-member is actually an interference fit. So tight doesn't begin to describe it.

  • @silicon212
    @silicon212 Před 2 lety

    On the police interceptors, those cars with P71 or P7B in the VIN, there exists a pretty beefy transmission cooler. This isn't necessary to upgrade - the cooler is pretty substantial and is mounted in front of the radiator (separate cooler along with power steering cooler on 2003-2005, the lower 1/4 of the AC condenser on 2006+). This is an air to liquid cooler, not a liquid to liquid heat exchanger that's found on stock duty vehicles.

  • @silicon212
    @silicon212 Před 2 lety

    also, taking off the throttle body and the fuel rails is overkill; one needn't do that in order to get the coils and plugs out.
